Charming Stone House in the Heart of Peter Mayle's Provence!
- Minimum stay:N/A

- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Nestled in the Heart of Provence, on the south side of the Luberon mountains, this charming, spacious, two-bedroom, two-bath stone house is available for rent in a small village founded in 1506. Surrounded by vineyards and Chateaux, olive groves, sunflower and lavender fields and picturesque medieval villages, this is the area of Provence described in Peter Mayle's series 'A Year in Provence'. The house is 35 minutes north of Aix-en-Provence, 45 minutes north of the Marseille International Airport and the Mediterranean Ocean. In spite of its' old world charm, the house offers air-conditioning, Broadband Internet access (via Wi-Fi) and unlimited international calling to the US and Canada.(Other destinations may be included - please inquire)
The completely furnished house is on two levels. On the ground floor, there is a living room area decorated with rustic Provençal furniture and fabrics. Also on the ground floor is a dining area for six, a fully-equipped kitchen, bathroom with bathtub, and a laundry room with a washer and dryer. The view out of the windows is onto an 18th century church and the Luberon Mountains. On the second floor, up from the spiral staircase, are the two spacious bedrooms with Queen-size beds, a full bathroom with shower, and access to the terrace.
The village is a small, quiet, and increasingly rare, authentic French village in Provence, with spectacular views of vineyards and mountains in the immediate surrounds. This is a very calm and wonderfully rich part of Provence and offers the authenticity of the French countryside in which you can become truly immersed. The villagers will welcome you and you will no doubt wish to have aperitifs and Provençal delicacies along with them at the village cafe/restaurant..
In the immediate surrounding areas enjoy hiking and walking trails in the Luberon National Park, biking, wine and olive oil tastings, swimming, fishing, tennis, antiques shopping, and visits to medieval villages with their wine cellars and farmer's markets.
The house is perfectly situated to explore the entire region of Provence. Within one hour are the following destinations: to the west are the famous wineries of Chateauneuf du Pape, the cities of Arles and Avignon, to the north are the hilltop villages of Gordes and Rousillion (the 'Colorado of France'), to the west is the striking Gorges of Verdon, and to the south is the city of Aix-en-Provence, the Mediterranean Ocean, and Marseille. A bit further drive and you come to the costal towns of the Cote d’Azure, including St. Tropez, Nice, and Cannes.
In the immediate vicinity of the house, however, explore farmers' and craft markets, a lake, restaurants and castles in the nearby villages of La Motte D'Aigues, Ansuis, Lourmarin, Cucuron and Grambois. La France profonde in Provence!
Free parking is available just in front of the property.

This house has a 2nd floor terrace that looks North over a church tower toward the Luberon Mountains, so you feel they are cradling you. This is a house that would easily serve two couples. Both bedrooms are large, and the beds are comfy. The kitchen is the smallest room in the house, but is suitable for preparing a dinner for a half-dozen. The village is small, and very quiet. Five minutes from the front door we watched farmers driving herds of sheep home in the evening. If you want quiet, privacy, and don't mind driving, this is the place for youRecommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you Grace! it was a pleasure having you both stay. And yes, the kitchen is big enough to prepare meals for a half dozen and still has a table for four!

What a chaming little home you have here in a charming little village! Maison Akette was the perfect base for our explorations of teh Luberon and Provence. We travelled east and west, up and down. The lake and beach were a huge hit with the girls as were all the hilltop villages. Even the weather was perfect- 6 straight days of cloudless Provencal blue skies! A bientot!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

"...we sought out of the way routes whenever we could and felt that we entered another world - the wildflowers in full bloom, the smell of thyme ad forest greens, the wild irises and purple lilacs...and, at night we returned to your wonderful Maison. It feels like the home of a person with great warmth and appreciation for the life of Provence. Thank you so much for sharing. We hope to return. A bientot"Did you find this review helpful? About the owner: I've welcomed visitors to the South of France since 2001. I must have been born in a small Provencal village in another lifetime; it feels like home - and I look foward to welcoming you to this amazing part of the world. The house is in one of the few remaining authentic villages of Provence - a wonderful opportunity to become immersed in Provencal village life. 'Bienvenue'!
Why the Owner Chose Peypin D'Aigues:
The smell of lavender, the food, wine, cheese, the art, architecture, chateaux, sunflowers, etc., etc., Does one really have to explain their love for Provence?
Not yet overrun with tourists, this village is the real thing. Some of my neighbors work in the vineyards and make their own cheese and wine. The village is not lost to the modern world however - we can still boast sophisticated world travelers and world class (true) artists who call this village home. And of course, being in the heart of Provence, we have access to all the cultural attractions and sites that make this area so famous.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The property is a wonderful combination of the old and the modern.
