About the owner: I retired from the voice/data sales of a local communications company in 2011 followed by open heart surgery. I am an active father of three grown children and PapaMau to six grandchildren. I have dedicated much my life to community service and fund raising for a major non profit in Santa Cruz. I am a past president of the Santa Cruz Downtown Association, Santa Cruz Jaycees, and Board of Directors of the Santa Cruz AIDS Project. I served as Chair of the Salvation Army Advisory Board. I have been in the Rotary Club of Santa Cruz since 1979. I served 6 years in the California National Guard. Photography is a fun passion and a camera is always close at hand. My focus is on my health and my family.
My travels include the Philippines, Figi, Sweden, Denmark, Mexico and Paris. In the US I've seen Miami, New York, Chicago, DC, Portland, Seattle, Hawaii and much of California. I am making plans for a third return to Paris.
The other owner, Curt Keyer, is a retired manager of KMart. He's an avid hiker, gardener and foreign language student. His focus is to travel.
Why the Owner Chose Santa Cruz: I was born and raised in Santa Cruz County. Our home on Pacheco Avenue is Centrally located to many attractions. For shopping we are in the middle between the unique ,Downtown, Pacific Garden Mall, the Capitola Mall and Capitola Village By The Sea. The Beach Boardwalk is 7 minutes by car, There are 29 miles of beaches in Santa Cruz County to choose from. UCSC is 3 miles away and easy to get to. We are close to North and South Freeway access to Highway 1. San Jose Airport is 35 minutes drive traffic permitting. Monterey and Carmel are a 45 minute drive South on Highway 1. There are Pasatiempo, De Laveaga and Aptos Seascape golf courses all within 15 minutes from our door. There is the wonderful wharf for shopping, strolling, watching sailboats and sea life under the pier. The harbor is minutes away to sail out of or watch the Wednesday Night Regata exhibit their wonderful display of sails from many beaches or the main beach at the boardwalk while the volley ball courts are in play. Hike in the Henry Cowell Redwood State Park no more than 15 minutes away. The county is popular for back road cyclists. The McPherson Art and History Museum is downtown and very family friendly. Play volleyball on the main beach next to the Boardwalk. Favorite restaurants are:Shadow Brook, Surf Rider, Crow's Nest, Aldo's, Gilda's, Tequila Sunrise, Betty's Burgers, Rosie McCann, Pizza My Heart and many many more. Coffee shops are everywhere. Try a new one every day. Shop at our favorite locally owned grocery, Shopper's Corner, and across the street from them, a favorite bakery, The Buttery. They're only a few blocks away. Whole Foods and Trader Joe's are only minutes away. In Felton, about 20 minutes there is Roaring Camp. They feature riding their steam powered trains on a narrow gauge railway. It's fun for the entire family.
The Unique Benefits at this House: Besides our central location, our home has a lovely Koi Pond featuring Koi that are more than 20 years old. We have an eclectic collection of art to enjoy and the central court yard provides a very private space to reflect and watch the koi as they weave through the water creating their own dance. The open floor plan gives you room to be away, yet near the action as preferred. The sun room is unique with 13 windows, many paintings and a wall mural of the hands of God and man. The patio entrance in front gives you yet another open space outside the front gate should you wish to enjoy the garden there. Our neighbors are also long time friends. The unique louvers around the windows add to the charm of our home. The inner court yard is actually an open air room, enhancing your surroundings. The front gate is high and provides a secure feeling within the home. The gate has a faux finish giving it a metalic look even tho it is wood.
