The cabin is wonderful with the Pot Belly Stoves and the great screen porch. The views of the Creek and the Marsh are unforgettable. It truly is a great Low Country destination and a sweet slice of the past. We had a great trip on Awendaw Creek in our Jon Boat to Bulls Bay and back. Looking forward to bringing our Kayaks on next trip in April, 2012. Tim and Stephanie are great hosts! We thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely be back over and over and over again! If you have a chance to visit this destination, you will not be disappointed.

Anyone seeking a true, relaxing family vacation in South Carolina, this is the place for you! Stephanie and Tim were wonderful hosts from the moment we arrived. The cabin, while small and rustic, had the character of the 1920's and the cleanliness and comfort of the modern age. There was little we found lacking and never once found an occasion to complain. I (Don) practically moved in under the Pavillion and deemed it "man cave!". My wife and daughters also joined me until well after dark either fishing, Kayaking or simply enjoying each others company in a beautiful environment all around us. Even our dog made a few great friends and had the time of his life! The next time we stay (and we have already made reservations for it!) we have decided that we wont do any day trips and keep to the cabin area for our fun. Other things we did during our stay that stood out: Hiking the palmetto trail, Bulls Island and a short one to the 4000 yr old shell ring. Our little girls will never forget "Billy" their baby goat friend and the bottle feeding in the predawn hours that they often snuck out to do! Don't miss the Wednesday evening live original music at Awendaw Green! We really cant say enough positive things about the cabin, the scenery, and our new friends and hosts Stephanie and Tim! Thank you for the best family vacation that we have ever had and we look forward to many, many, more!

My boyfriend brought me to meet his friends and stay in their cabin laughing the whole way there b/c he knew I would fall in love with this place. I posted pictures on my facebook titled "I found heaven in Awendaw". The cabin met all of our needs plus some! Tim and Steph were the most awesome host and easy to talk to and even went out of their way to help me find my dog when he dissappeared. We spent three nights there and it was hard for me to leave. We talk about this "piece of heaven" to all our friends and plan on returning many times. We paddled up and down the creek several times, taking in the beauty and fresh salty air. I recommend this place to any one who loves the outdoors and can see the beauty in having a simple life. Included in the cabin were two small fridges, an oven/2 burner stove, coffee pot with coffee and sugar, toaster, grill, two pot belly stoves with wood, kayaks and canoes, couches and a huge tub. Totally relaxing! Looking foward to seeing both of you again soon! Thank you so much!!!

Shrimp and Grits, cool breezes, and a wealth of hospitality. We had such a wonderful and relaxing weekend of paddling, cooking, fires on the porch, and just living. Back to the basics, food, shelter, and warmth. Thanks to Stephanie and Tim for making us welcome and comfortable and sharing such a beautiful piece of heaven with us. I look forward to the next time we can come down to the low country and reconnect with nature and the important things in life. No distractions and a comfortable accommodations, the quintessential vacation. We loved spending time on the screened in porch, cooking or just relaxing by the wood stove. We have actually rerouted our hike on the Palmetto trail to end in Awendaw instead of starting there so we can stay at the Kayak Cabin. This will add extra excitement to the hike knowing the trail ends in Awendaw. I would highly recommend this cabin to anyone who appreciates the little things in life or needs to be reminded of them.

We stayed 2 nights and brought our kayaks. Easy access to Awendaw Creek. Friendly and knowledgeable hosts but rarely saw them. Cabin rustic but clean, and kitchen-on-the-porch was welll equipped. Plenty of light for evening reading on porch, and ceiling fans kept air moving and breezy. The setting - next to the creek was spectacular. There was a tv, but happy to say didn't feel the need - having too much fun just relaxing!

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in Awendaw. If you want serenity Kayak and Cabin is the getaway for you. I took an hour kayak trip through the creek and was amazed at the beauty of the quiet waters and welcoming surroundings. The cabin is comfortable; its set up with everything needed. I needed to bring only food and beverages. Awendaw, SC truly exemplifies God's beauty. The owners were there if I needed them, but left me to enjoy my time. I suggest this trip to anyone looking to getaway from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

We have stayed at Kayaking Cabin multiple times and it was exactly what we desired! It is a secluded rustic cabin with natures most beautiful surroundings! Steph, Tim and their pups are the friendliest and most helpful host you could ask for. They went above and beyond to make sure we had anything we needed or wanted as well as being great company for the jaw dropping sunsets on the creek! If you want to be away from it all, experience one of the most gorgeous corners of the world and meet some great people this is the place for you! We will being staying here again!

As said in one of the travelers reviews this place is "rustic". Upon arrival we received a quick tour of the place, however, we were not told what to do with garbage, dirty towels, etc. We only saw the owners when we arrived. They never came to ask if we needed anything or had any questions. My biggest problem was that the information on the website was very misleading. A/C means: a window air conditioner in one of the bedrooms. The other bedroom is cooled by a fan that only lets air out of the sides because it is so dirty. One and a quarter baths is an indoor toilet, sink and tub. I don't know if the tub water works because we didn't use it. There is a shower if you walk outside the cabin to an addition that the owners put in It has no access from inside the house. The porch that you see in the front of the house is the kitchen, eating area, and living room. This room is a screened in porch, so don't leave anything close to the windows because it will get wet if it rains. There is a small frig. (dorm room size), a toaster, coffee pot, a portable stove (two burner), a microwave, and a toaster oven which is considered the equipped kitchen. The living area had two love seats that were to dirty to sit on. Bring your own towels for showering. The towels that are available have been washed, but are stained and old. The bedrooms and the bathroom were clean. Though they advertise low rates, for the money they charged we could have stayed in a hotel with a kitchen for the same amount. This is only my opinion. Others seem to love it. Our family camped in a pop-up camper for many years. I expected to have to leave the camper to shower and have a limited cooking area, but I didn't expect what I got when renting this cabin.
Owner response:Thank you for your review, as you said, people love it, it just wasn't for you.

We've been coming to "our" little Awendaw cabin for five years now.LOTS and LOTS of weekends and many full weeks, and I simply can't praise it enough. Absolutely, the perfect place to get away from it all.Stephanie and Timmy are the perfect hosts and we've become very good friends with them-even getting invited to their private cookouts which are the finest examples of a true lowcountry experience that you could hope for. Stephanie's brothers are oystermen and when we go during oyster season, we have a bushel of fresh oysters from Bulls Bay waiting for us. The cabin is adorable.VERY clean and if you need anything all you have to do is ask. You're minutes from one of the best seafood resturants around,SEEWEE. It's even been written up in SOUTHERN LIVING.Shopping is a short jaunt down to either Charleston or Georgetown, always knowing you'll be coming back to your quite little cabin on the river. There's also a canoe and kayaks avalable to get out on the river and a beautiful Bird Rookery just minutes from the house-a photographers dream. As you see my husband and I can't get ENOUGH. of this place. We're heading back for New Years this year and a week in March. Stephanie and Timmy, Thank you for sharing this VERY special place with us.Gloria and John-River Falls, SC

04-10-2009 We adore this place. It is in the middle of nowhere & everywhere. It is a humble place with a nourishing heart. Our 12yrs old dog went kayaking or the first time. We had steak dinner down at the marsh island with the best view of any restaurant we have seen. Desert was cherry pie wash down by cold glass of milk. To top of the evening we had the biggest and brightest moon that was full to the point of overflowing its stars filled goblet. Nam, Dylan and I enjoyed drinking it excesses.

We fell in love with your quintessential Lowcountry setting. The cabin's antique paneling is like something out of Pottery Barn and everything was so clean! We loved the pot belly stoves and we enjoyed kayaking the creek as well as a short trip to the 4000 yr old shell ring (so neat). Thank you for being such wonderful, knowledgeable hosts...we will be back with the kids but this was a perfect Anniversary getaway. I've already started telling all of our friends to book NOW!!

Wow, what a retreat! We arrived on Tuesday evening. Tim greeted us and gave a quick tour. We spent the next 3 days basking on the pontoon, fishing, crabbing, kayaking, watching the thousands of crabs run along the coast as the tide came in and went out. We also watched the dolphins come and go. Oh, yes, we must not forget the small alligator that kept vigil as we fished. This was the most relaxing vacation ever. We brought our dog along. She will never be the same. She came and went freely, playing with Tim and Stephanie's dog, Charlotte Johnston, and Libby, the lab, and her 6 puppies. Our idea was to use the cabin as just a base for sleeping, as we orignally planned to visit the Aquarium, the Center for Birds of Prey (right there in Awendaw), take the grandson to Frankie's Fun Park, eat lots of great seafod, visit Boone Hall Plantation, hit the beach at least once. Well, guess what . . . we ate great seafood . . . takeout from Seewee Restaurant. I never even left God's little acre of Heaven on earth. On your visit to Kayak & Cabin, take the minimal. You won't want to leave the peace and quiet. I still haven't put my watch back on from when I took it off last Tuesday night. (I will rejoin the real world sometime today and put it on . . . sigh.) Tim and Stephanie, thank you so much for opening the cabin so tired folks like us could get away for a few days of bliss. See you in the fall. Dot, Barry, Carrie & Severin

This cabin and hosts, Stehanie and Tim are absolutely wonderful and definitely heaven on earth. We had many plans to do other activities but got so caught up in the low country lifestyle most plans went by the wayside. Stephanie and Tim are wonderful hosts - and "cooks"! We enjoyed ourselves so much we are returning again next summer! Thanks for sharing your wonderful lives with us. Debbie, Dennis Ruby & Morgan

Did you ever want to escape to a secluded spot to relax and get in touch with yourself? Well this is the place to sit back and relax, almost to step back to a quieter way of life. Smell the gardenias, watch the ebb and flow of the creek, kayak, read , watch the birds , shoot the breeze with our excellent hosts. There are nature trails, historic places, antique stores and specialty shops within a reasonable driving distance, but best of all just being there with nothing you have to do but experience some good low country living! Thanks Stephanie and Tim for a super time...we'll be back!

This cabin is wonderful, the river peaceful, and Stephanie and Tim are excellant hosts. Stephanie helps stock the fridge, running back out for groceries is not a quick trip! Bring some food when you arrive. Kayaking and canoeing are fun, we would suggest you bring bikes if you can. The cabin is super clean and well stocked and comfortable. We especially liked the wood stove in the bathroom, although we never got to use it. Relax and enjoy!

We had a great time at Stephanie & Tim's cabin. We actualy got married on the island ( Tim married us) and spent the week in their cabin. We had many day trips planned but the cabin and island were so nice and peacefull that we only left for two days of fishing and shrimping. I don't think anyone could find hosts that are nicer than Steph. and Tim . We will be planning a yearly trip there from now on. Hey Steph./ Tim tell Rick we said Hey and give the dogs and "old big head" Tom a scratching for us. We will see you soon as we can get away for a weekend.

Being usually not so much into outdoors we were kind of excited what is coming up at our second stop traveling the east coast. You know what? It was great! Getting the taste of outdoor adventures by doing canoing, having a camp fire on our "own" Island, whatching wildlife, and just kicking back 'n relax right at the heart of nature was a really great experience. Stephanie and Tim were great hosts making our stay like feel at home (Stephanie managed to get real and good German wine!!! :-)). And we felt in love with Libby, Stephanie's and Tim's lovely dog. Give her a hug from us, Stephanie! And to all the German "Krauts" who are considering to travel along east coast head for this cabin and stay there for a few days - you'll love it!

Had a wonderful mini vacation with my sister-in-law and her family along with my husband and son. Enjoyed watching my nephews catching frogs, lizards, crabs, and fishing. My husband and son really enjoyed kayaking and took plenty of pictures to bring us back to that moment. Stephanie and Tim were great hosts and enjoyed having them over our last night there for a game of Mad Gab.

This is a lovely cottage in a beautiful setting. The location is ideal for birders and naturalists, so close to Bulls Island, the Santee Coastal Reserve, and Francis Marion National Forest. It is the best place to stay to maximize your time enjoying nature, rather than driving. The nearby Seewee Restaurant is an added treat.
Owner response:Thank you VRBO for the great people we have met through your website. Everyone is loving Kayak and Cabin and We just want you to know that we appreciate the opportunity to share our cabin. Stephanie
