Mountcastle is a private estate, a walled, beach compound including a House, a Master Suite/Apt., and a Cottage that are only rented together as one unit, the Mountcastle Compound. (7 bedrooms/10 beds). This is the home of a large family working overseas. This unique property is set in a jungle garden, just fifty meters from the white sands of the beautiful Pass-a-grille Beach on the Gulf of Mexico. Light fills all parts of this home from glass walls, numerous windows and skylights. Oriental rugs and antique oak furniture add to the ambience.
Palms, bougainvillea, bananas, kapok, mahogany, mango, papaya, sea grapes, giant ferns, hibiscus and many other tropical plants lend beauty and privacy to this property. And, in an area of privacy and seclusion under the sea grapes and a grove of bamboo, we have placed a giant (8ft diameter) Jacuzzi for our guests. This Jacuzzi is 'state of the art' with the latest in sterilization and filtration technology, underwater changing lights and a waterfull.
Location!-Location!-Location!
This home is just a half block (50 steps!) from the magnificent Gulf of Mexico beach, seven unbroken miles of white sand beach! Historic Pass-a-grille is the narrow (just one block wide) southern end of St. Pete Beach, a barrier island at Tampa Bay. There are no large streets to cross... the beach is just three houses down our short block. And, the intercoastal waterway is just two houses away at the other end of our block.

This compound includes three separate areas, 6 bedrooms, 10 beds:
The House accommodations:
1. This two story home has a master bedroom: king-sized bed, single bed and balcony over the garden.
2. Another large upstairs bedroom: two double beds.
3. A downstairs bedroom: queen sized bed.
4. A second downstairs bedroom: queen sized bed.
5. Upstairs and downstairs full bathrooms (and 1.25 full bath in the attached Master Suite/Apartment).
5. A large living room.
6. A fully equipped kitchen with breakfast table and kitchen deck.
7. A sunroom off the main deck.
8. And a dining room.
The House comfortably sleeps eleven in the bedrooms.
The Master Suite: This one bedroom Master Suite is located on the second story over a wing of the house and connects to the house by a hallway and door. Sliding glass doors along the entire western exposure, facing the garden, and large windows along the entire eastern exposure fill the apartment with light. Our Master Suite comfortably sleeps four to six with one bedroom (queen) and a pull-out futon bed (double). Possibly, two more guests could be accommodated with cots.
The Cottage: Our cottage is a very large efficiency/studio with a a separate bathroom with shower. Hidden in foliage, a cathedral ceiling, a skylight, a wall of windows opening to the East and the Jacuzzi area, the warm glow of varnished pine paneling,'heart of pine' floors, a few oriental rugs - a private and cozy place to stay. This unit has a queen sized bed and a pullout couch queen bed. Accomodates 4 comfortably, possibly two more with cots.

Entry to the house is from the front door on the street or from within the walled compound. The Master Suite and cottage are entered from within the compound entered through a locked gate. The Master Suite can also be entered from the House via an upstairs hallway and locked door. We have private parking for several cars.
You do not need a car. The Tampa International Airport is just 30 minutes away and the airport limo will drop you at our door. Enjoy the ambience, privacy, and economy of a private home with hotel amenities close at hand! Two great seafood and and an Italian restaurant, a large deli with groceries, and a marina are within two blocks. The historic Eighth Avenue Pass-a-Grille shopping district, fishing piers, tavern and 5 restaurants are a 15 minute walk south on the beach, and the beautiful Don Cesar Hotel and Beach Resort is a 15 minute walk north on the beach. Boats to Shell Island and Egmont Key, deep sea fishing, dolphin and sunset tours are just a 15 minute walk away at the Merry Pier.
The Tourist Trolley stops a block away, giving easy access to all of St. Pete, Treasure Island, Madeira, Redington Shores, and Clearwater Beaches. Tours pickup at the Don Cesar Hotel for all major Tampa Bay and central Florida theme parks and attractions.
The world famous Fort DeSoto National Park - always rated among the 'Top Ten' Beaches in America (and last year as #1!!) is immediately to the south of our island.
We have a two story tree house and jungle gym for children to enjoy. The Mountcastles are working overseas with their five children, four to ten years old. This property is child friendly. Families are welcome!!
Our idea of a great day starts with a 15 minute walk down the beach or down the seawall on the intercoastal waterway (Pass-a-Grille is only one block wide!) to the quaint Seahorse Restaurant for breakfast... morning paper, seagulls screaming, and salt air - cannot be beat!! A lazy day on the beach is always a delight. An afternoon nap in the shade in your own tropical garden is truly relaxing. Walking back to the beach for another fabulous sunset is a local tradition. And, a romantic dinner on the deck or an evening out at one of the fine seafood restaurants nearby completes a great vacation day. Why drive anywhere, when you can have one perfect day after another right there on Pass-a-Grille??!!
