This pond has a small beach, picnic tables and a launch for canoes, kayaks, or a motor boat up to 3 hp. Sheep's Pond is perfect for swimmers of all ages, sun bathing and relaxing as well as fishing and is widely recognized as one of the two cleanest ponds in MA. Another five to ten minute walk or bike on the path just past Sheep's Pond will bring you to Long Pond. A turn onto Crowell's Bog Road and a right at the first turn off brings you to a beach with life guard and boat launch. Long Pond offers more than 700 acres of boating and swimming fun and a lifeguarded beach. Walking or biking north on the bike trail leads to a specialty meat market with a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, an array of daily newspapers, as well as specially prepared foods and pastries. Just path the market there are two stores offering bike and kayak. One is adjacent to a great breakfast and lunch spot and within 1/2 mile there are three more different eating venues including one that is a fresh fish market, one renown for fish tacos as well as margaritas and one with full service Tuscan Italian dining. A 2 minute car ride from the house along Route 6A brings visitors to the unique bay beaches with incredible tidal walks. For those desiring bigger waves a 10 minute car ride further north along on Route 6A brings visitors to the town of Orleans. Another 10 minute drive along Main Street in Orleans will bring visitors to Nauset Beach which rests along the national seashore offering plenty of high waves and opportunities for surfing, boogie boarding and long stretches of beach for strolling in the warm sun - a favorite past time on both the bay and at Nauset. Driving along Route 6A provides visitors a unique picture of homes from 200 years ago and gardens full of hydrangeas and other gorgeous flowers. Many of these homes offer antiques interspersed with restaurants, local ice cream shops, galleries, consignment stores and other forms of entertainment. The Brewster General Store is one of a kind with penny candy, toys, shirts, and home goods as well as newspapers and other treasures. Cape Cod cookies are a special treat. Adjacent to the General Store is The Scoop ice cream parlor. Numerous locally owned restaurants are readily accessible. We especially enjoy the Brewster Coffee House as well as JTs for their seafood. Brewster boasts two highly rated restaurants: Brewster Fish House and Chillingsworth for those looking to experience a special adult night. For those evenings when we want the best family seafood adventure we head to Sesuit Harbor to sit on the picnic tables in the marina and enjoy the best family fun dining experience. Miniature golf and bowling are a quick ride and for adults, the Cape boasts 26 golf courses-several of which are within a five miles away. Tennis courts are within a mile of the house at the local school. The Cape Cod Museum which is just past the Dunkin Donuts on 6A offers and array of programs for adults and children and even a camp for kids. East Harwich is the owner's choice for accessible grocery shopping, pharmacy services and hardware.
Year Purchased: 2013
About the owner: Up until about 20 years ago when we moved to Tucson, AZ we visited Cape Cod from Connecticut heading onto the lower Cape regularly for its great sea breezes and tranquility. The purchase of this home in our favorite town of Brewster now offers our expanding family of grandchildren this special gift.
Why the Owner Chose Brewster:
Brewster is our favorite destination town on Cape Cod. The quaintness, sea air, and tidal pools on the bay beaches which are just over 1 mile away where we walk for miles at low tide feeling the warm gentle breezes as we look out towards the point in Provincetown during the day or the fires that sparkle on the beaches at night are an unbeatable combination. This property gives us ready access (less than a 5 minute drive) to at least six bay beaches as well as the best of the freshwater ponds drive in a home large enough to share with friends and family, cook up good food and a setting where we can safely let our grandchildren experience the adventure of an independent bike ride to the local beach with friends. The roominess of the home and its great private yard provide a wonderful setting for family and friends - of all ages.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The ready access from this home through a pathway to the wonderful 22 mile bike trail permits us to walk or bike to so many wonderful destinations for swimming, eating or shopping makes this home very special to us and a great Brewster paradise. We also enjoy the fact our large yard backs to the state forest land and while the home has ready access on a main road, it provides an incredibly peaceful and relaxing setting for BBQs and family games. The home is so spacious with its family room and new basement game room, it is easy to host multiple age groups while still having space for the whole family to come together for meals, games or TV/movies yet separation for different age groups. While we enjoy sunsets best on the bayside beaches, we have no complaints about watching them from the wicker rockers on our cozy little 'farmer's' porch especially after an early dinner at one of the numerous local restaurants including our favorite spot at Sesuit Harbor marina or JTs. Mini-golf is right around the corner along with tennis courts and a playground. A short ride down Rte.137 to the intersection of Rte. 28 brings families to a go-cart race track. Drive a little further north on Rte. 28 to Marion's Pie Shop; drive south on Rte. 28 to a myriad of mini golf courses, water bumper carts and an array of ice cream and toy shops.
