When my youngest daughter was 9 years old we were sitting in the backyard at our campfire on the Russian River. She turned to me and said, 'Mom, we should name this place.' What do you have in mind, 'I asked?'
We should call it Camp Relief, because that's how people feel when they are here, 'RELIEVED!
We decided to share Camp Relief with others. For 15 years we have fixed up our home, filled it with great energy and happiness, and hosted hundreds of friends and relatives who agree with the 'relief' theme. Sitting on our deck in the sun or under the pristine night sky protected by our big 800 year old redwood ( part of the family) has restored our spirits. We created a simple, lovely backyard and carved a big path to the beach where reading our books, hopping in our kayaks for an easy paddle, or eating dinner riverside at sunset is the lifestyle we treasure.
To prepare to share our home with our guests we invested in super comfortable pillow top beds, 100% cotton high thread count sheets, down comforters and soft cotton blankets and fluffy white towels. The decks are ready for you to hang out and relax with a BBQ too. Just got a hot tub and put it under the redwood tree for you too.

About the owner: My name is Mo McElroy and I am a tourism professional with a consulting business that spans the state. I work in the wine industry, and train the frontline employees in Sonoma County to provide exceptional service to our visitors (that’s you). I am also a concierge for the Wine Road and help people plan their vacations. I am an actor performing this summer in Santa Rosa where I will be staying while you enjoy my home.
Why the Owner Chose Guerneville: I bought nature 14 and a half years ago. I deliberately bought a place on the river and just moments from where the river meets the sea. I was afraid to take a leap and live in a rural setting. The realtor looked at me and said, “You deserve this. You are choosing your life now and not just letting it happen to you. Do this for yourself.”I never looked back. Some days I feel like Snow White with the birds and the squirrels and the fish and the raccoons surrounding me. I feel safe there. I feel like I am in prayer without it being a conscious act.
I did choose the life for me and my children. I have three beautiful girls now in their 20’s. I apologized to them that there were no sidewalks. No where to skate except the parking lot at the elementary school. But they could bike and make forts on the river bank and take the kayak out for a spin. They could blow up the inner tubes and spend the day floating with their friends. We loved the campfire in our backyard with s’mores under the stars.
When they come home I see them go straight to the deck and talk to our 800 year old redwood., skip rocks on the beach and soak up the sun.
I treasure the symphony of the jays and robins while I have my morning coffee and the tap, tap, tap of the woodpecker are my safe companions. Cursing at the raccoons as they raid my kitchen cabinets is the spicy part of the natural bargain which I kinda love and hate. (don’t worry, you can lock the pet door)
The Unique Benefits at this House: I’m a person with a loud mind, an active and imaginative narration that I’ve grown to appreciate and not fight. If I bring my mind covered in my blonde curly hair to the river, it still makes noise, but gradually that noise turns into murmurs of gratitude for what I see in front of me. I’m that little girl again looking in wonder at the wild flowers, the tadpoles, the river otters and the great blue heron that is my next door neighbor. I can glide quietly in my kayak like Lewis and Clark with a cup of tea and a good book in the summer afternoon.
I can go to the church of nature that is lovely and new and welcoming and it shares itself with me with no judgment, no strings attached, and no boundaries. I am humbled when I feel the intimate access I have been given to be in its presence. To be so close and to feel so much a part of it. This is one of the few places I have found in life that I can be alone without feeling lonely. I can cry without being self conscious. I can sing and feel appreciated. I can speak and feel heard. I can show up and always feel welcomed.
