Gardiner house description

As all our friends and family know, for the best view and family parties in Gardiner, there’s no better than “The McLaughlin Place”. We are known for 4th of July parties and summer dances, volleyball games and apple cider making in the Fall. Kids love building sand castles or playing volleyball in the sand court, playing Frisbees among the apple trees, having a sing-along around the fire pit, or watching the horses in the corral. Our deck has enough shade to make it comfortable to have breakfast, lunch or dinner on it most summer days.
The kids are all grown and gone and so we want to share our home with you and your family. We think you’ll like our other frequent visitors - Bighorn sheep, elk, deer and bison wander by on the other side of the fence. Our property extends up the mountainside to a Forest Service road up on top, making for a interesting hike as you can walk down the road back to town.
We have an incredible view of Electric Peak with its varying moods depending on the weather and season. We can’t see much of Gardiner from our house but the grocery store is only a couple blocks away. We are at the end of the driveway so there is no through traffic here. As you arrive you'll drive past our corrals and tack shed, remnants of the guest ranch that operated here in the 1940s. There are numerous outbuildings on the property- a root cellar, well house, shop/garage and wood shed that are, unfortunately, not available to our guests, but interesting to look at. The house has been added onto and partially remodeled over the years. It holds 14 people comfortably with 5 bedrooms and 3 baths. The basement bedroom has a CA King and a set of twin beds and its own bathroom. There are three bedrooms on the main floor. The master bedroom has a CA King bed and an attached bathroom. The other two bedrooms each contain a Queen size bed and share the main bathroom with the “attic” bedroom which holds 4 twin beds. The kitchen is very small but fully equipped to handle preparing food for large crowds. It has a full size refrigerator with ice maker and water dispenser in the door, gas range, dishwasher and all the dishes, pots, pans and utensils I use to feed large crowds. There is also a small pantry/linen closet that has larger serving dishes and supplies. The dining room will have two long, narrow tables to accommodate 14 people, but we highly suggest and prefer eating out on the deck. The deck is covered with black mesh, making even the noon sun pleasant. Most summer days we eat all three meals out on the deck, usually staying out long enough that its dark and we can plug in the strings of white lights that stay up all year. There are a couple of grills on the concrete garage apron for your use. The living room has a TV with Dish Network and a DVD player. In the buffet underneath are two drawers of dvds. WiFi internet is available throughout the house. We get excellent Verizon cell service on our whole place as well. There is a large, full, toy box in the coat closet with numerous board games in the shelves above it.
Just off the kitchen is a porch with a washer,dryer and laundry sink. The huge grassy yard is perfect for all kinds of playing and running. In order to maintain the lawn there is an automatic sprinkler system that will be watering some part of the yard most of the time to keep it all green. There is also a fenced in vegetable garden. We will be on the property gardening or mowing and ready to visit or answer any questions most days, if you're not out touring Yellowstone Park.
Like most Gardiner residences, we don’t feel the need to have air conditioning. Opening the house up at night and closing it during the day keeps it quite comfortable. Fans are available if needed.

          Year Purchased: 2003

          About the owner: We’ve lived in Gardiner for over 30 years. The “mountain madness” overtook us while working at Roosevelt Lodge in Yellowstone Park during our college years and we fell in love with one another and this area.

          Why the Owner Chose Gardiner:
          This place is so tucked away we didn't really know it existed for the first twenty years we lived here, but of all the places in Gardiner, most people here will agree this is the best! Our 20 acre piece is all that’s left of the original dude ranch that Dan Bigelow operated here. The guest cabins are on the neighbor’s property to the East and the corrals and tack shed are still home to our horses and their gear. It was called the Yellowstone Trails Ranch and entertained guests in the 1940s.
