Nestled under live oaks and palms and magnolias, on a high bluff overlooking the beautiful St. Johns River, is a slice of paradise, old Florida Style. Catering to the casual and avid fisherman and their families, outdoor enthusuasts, or jthise just looking for a quiet respite in a beautiful setting, Welaka Lodge & Resort provides luxury cottage accomodations in an old Florida setting.
This traditional board-n- batten cottage has been completely remodeled inside and out, enhancing the natural character while providing modern creature comforts. With two covered porches, a wood burning stove, metal roof, wood floors and tongue and groove walls, it's hard not to imagine a simpler time. Because we want you to have the best of both worlds to this we've added a full kitchen with dishwasher and gas stove, televisions in the living room and each bedroom, each with combination DVD/VCR player, a washer a dryer, and best of all a five person spa on the outside deck overlooking the river. Our gorgeouse new pool and bath house add with top of the line lounge furniture add to the resort feel!
The first bedroom has a great view of the river and has a queen-size bed. The second bedroom has two twins. These can be pushed together for those who enjoy the comforts of a king-size bed.
The kitchen which features solid hickory cabinets and natural stone countertops, opens into the living room. In addition there is a dining table for four adjacent. The cozy living room enjoys the comfort and ambiance of a woodburning stove as well as a great view.
On the open deck that is extended from one of the covered porches sits the spa, fire pit, and a Jenn-Air stainless steel gas grill, as well as a dining area for those nights you just don't want to come inside.
Lush eight feet high camelias surround one side enclosing you in privacy. A fence and and old growth azaleas envelop you from the other side. The river side is, of course, open, except for the two large live oaks, in order to give you the best view of the river.
The view is to die for! From the vantage point where the cottage sits you are privy to the most glorious sunsets imaginable. Across the river is the Ocala National Forest, the opening of the Ocklawaha River, and the Carravelle Management area, so you are looking at nature not development. And you may even catch a glimpse of our blue heron visitor who keeps watch over our docks most nights.
We have a total of three cottages available with plans to build nine additional. Please check out our other listings, VRBO #100986, VRBO #102058 and VRBO #136291. Eleven original boat slips are complimentary on a first come first serve basis. Additionally, we have three new covered boat slips with electric lifts that are available to rent on a nightly, weekly, or monthly basis. Two new large uncovered slips accomodate largeer vessels or sailboats. Space fills quickly so make sure to reserve one early!
We are located in the quaint town of Welaka know for its beauty and, of course, its bass fishing. It is so much more than that! A golf cart friendly community, access to the restaurants, parks, neighborhood markets, and pubs are just a short cart ride away. You can rent one of ours licensed carts for excursions around town.
Opportunities for recreation abound. The Ocala National Forest is across the river, as is the Ocklawaha River, a pristine environment that takes you back in time and also gives you your best chance to see an alligator. Take your boat out and explore, or rent or charter one of ours, it is an opportunity not to be missed.
Silver Glen Springs and Salt Springs are located off Lake George and are a great day trip by boat. You can also take the oldest operating ferry in Florida across the river just south of us. From there you have a seven mile drive on a dirt road that takes you into the quaint town of Salt Springs (and the Spring itself). Heading south you'll come to Juniper Springs and Run, excellent for canoeing and kayaking, and Silver Glen Springs. Being in the Ocala National Forest, you'll have access to many trails including the Florida Trail which, when completed, will extend from the southern tip of Florida into the panhandle, eventually connecting to the Appalachian Trail.
Hiking trails in the Welaka Forest just south of town provide an up close way to see nature and allow you access to a secret spring. Stong paddlers can access it by water.
Of course, for many, fishing from the dock or their boat will provide all the entertainment they desire. And for others a dip in the pool followed by a beautiful sunset will be their respite.
In addition to cottages we offer twelve full hookup RV sites with picnic table and firering.
Let us host your event. With the amenties provided we are an ideal location for family reunions, corporate retreats, and wedding parties.

Owner info
About the owner: My husband Kevin and I purchased an old fish camp in 2004. It was called Wolfe's Camp. We loved the location, sunsets were beautiful, but the property was dilapidated and housed many run down mobile homes, many abandoned. Gradually, we begin restoring the place. Mobile homes were removed or dismantled. City water and sewer were added as well as underground utilities. We remodeled the existing cottages, and began construction on the pool and bath house. An office and laundry facility was also added. In 2006 we completed another cottage. 2008 brought us to the completion of our dockside bar and grill and our fourth cottage. Welaka is a beautiful place and one we love! This has been a labor of love for us and we hope to be here for many years to come, adding slowly and improving our place!
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Welaka is Old Florida. We have no shopping malls, multiplexes or even a fast food restaurant. What we do have are friendly residents, one stop light, beautiful views, great fishing, quiet relaxation, and the promise of good times with friends and family!
