Great Location & Property

Guest: ACADL (King, NC)
Date of Stay: 12/05/11 Review Submitted: 12/16/11

We stayed at this house from Dec 5 - 9th. The house & location was perfect. We enjoyed our time on Kauai and look forward to going back. It was nice to be able to have the kitchen and the room for a family of 5 adults. I just wish I had discovered the little town of Koloa earlier in the week...What a neat little town. Having the Washer & Dryer and coming home with everything clean was wonderful. I would definitely recommend this house or any of the other properties that Ron & Sonya has. Sonya was great to work with.

loved the location, house could use some deep cleaning though

Guest: sun loving (Seattle, Wa)
Date of Stay: 09/29/11 Review Submitted: 05/03/12

The location was great, loved the amount of rooms available, as I had seen mentioned before the house was a bit dirty, blinds could use a good cleaning since you are suppose to close windows during the day and must reach around them and would get covered with grime, there is a very musty smell to the home and the comforters don't appear to have been washed in a very long time as I broke out in rash whenever I touched them. The owner was easy to get a hold of but the key to pool was missing for our stay and had difficulty getting access to the pool. The toilet seat in master was broken and falling off as well, so could have used better maintenance. Our children had gotten sick while staying here and we ended up paying to have the carpet in Master cleaned, but the whole house really could have used it, as our youngest was crawling at the time and she was always very dirty after being on the floor. The musty smell and dirt may just be part of island living, as this was our first time there. I would recommend to families and would be a good place to stay for multiple families with the nice floor plan and amount of rooms. We had difficulty getting set up with internet access, but the owner was helpful. Aside from the dirt, we loved the location. Loved the access to beach and pool toys,

Owner response:Thank for your feedback and for the 4 out of 5 stars. We do have louvres on all the windows, so if the trade winds blow hard, some dust can blow in through the window screens. Most houses in Hawaii have these types of windows. As for last year, we had a very busy summer and the house was scheduled for a deep cleaning during this week. Since this was a last minute booking, I discounted the price significantly since we did not have time to do the deep clean, nor to address the issues mentioned above (pool key lost, master toilet seat cracked). Both of these were fixed after departure, as well as the deep clean of the house (including the blinds). Unfortunately, the guest’s children got the flu and threw up all over the master bedroom carpet. I brought in a professional carpet cleaner to clean the whole house, and only charged the guest for the extra cleaning done in the master bedroom. I'm glad you loved the location and the layout of the house. We try to keep plenty of pool/sand toys for the little ones. Mahalo again for your 4 out of 5 star review. Ron and Sonya

Amazing house, great location!!

My friends and I stayed in this lovely house while on Kauai to attend a wedding. It was the perfect fit for our group. We greatly enjoyed being walking distance from the beaches, the Hyatt and golf course. The house was well equipped with a BBQ, beach towels, boogie boards, all dishes and utensils as well as a number of spices that had been left behind. They even had a rice cooker. All of the rooms were comfortable and the patio seating outside made for a great hangout spot. Would definitely stay here again an highly recommend it to any families or groups coming to the Poipu area.

Family Fun on the beautiful Island of Kauai

Guest: Dot and Paul and Family (Various Cities in Arizona)
Date of Stay: 06/20/10 Review Submitted: 07/01/10

We spent 10 days exploring all the beauty and activities of Kauai. Our family of eight enjoyed the comfortable well appointed Hale Ha'upu. Our family included 2 seniors, (the Grandparents)our son and his family including two children age 12 and 10 and our daughter and her husband. The house was perfect for us. The well equipped kitchen and lanai with gas grill allowed us to enjoy relaxed family meals at home without eating out all the time. We spent our days at the nearby beaches, boogie boarding, sun bathing and body surfing, kayaking the Wailua River, eating Shave Ice, shopping at the nearby Poipu Village. The high lights were the Na Pali Coast Snorkle and sail trip. We saw green turtles, spinner dolphins, many beautiful colored fish. We also did the Smith Family Luau. (Delicious kalua pig and buffet dinner followed by a good show.) Some us spent relaxing afternoons "chill-axing" at the house and reading at the nearby pool and hot tub. The location was perfect for our family. We did take walks to the grounds of the nearby Grand Hyatt, Shipwreck Beach and the cliff hikes further beyond the Hyatt property. The green belt behind the home affords all a safe place to play, walk, jog or stroll in the early mornings or evenings. We all agree that this property is a great setting for the perfect family vacation... Thanks Sonya and Ron

Loved this place! Great location and wonderful home. We brought our family which included a 10 month old and everything we needed was there including the crib and high chair. We were able to walk to Shipwreck Beach and Brennecke Beach everyday which was perfect with the baby.

Poipu Kai House on Greenbelt

Guest: Johnny 0700 (BC, Canada)
Date of Stay: 12/25/09 Review Submitted: 01/08/10

We had a wonderful vacation at this comfortable house. It was clean, well furnished and well located on the greenway between Shipwreck beach (~3 min walk) and Poipu beach park (~5min walk). We visited many of Kauai's beaches but found Poipu Beach park, while somewhat crowded, the one we liked best for boogie boarding and body surfing. It was pretty good for snorkeling, too. My 14 year old son almost got bowled over by a Monk Seal while snorkeling which was a memorable moment once he got over his fright. Most mornings we walked over to Shipwreck beach to watch the sun rise and saw turtles, whales, and porpoises. We hiked at Waimea canyon and the Na Pali coast. Both were spectacular. I had never rented a house over the net before and was somewhat anxious but the experience was easy and worked out great for us. Sonya answered my questions promptly and everything was as she said it was. We cooked at home most days and the kitchen was well appointed which had been a concern of mine. I would not hesitate to recommend either this property or Poipu itself to friends or other interested people.

Owner response:The week between Christmas and New Year is probabally the most crowded on the island (and thus Poipu Beach was crowded as well). At other times of the year it is a delight and we find that around 5-6pm the beach empties out completely. We have often been the only ones there having dinner at the beach and enjoying the sunset! Glad you had a great time! -Sonya

Superb Vacation Rental

Guest: PJLJ (Thornton, Colorado, USA)
Date of Stay: 09/01/09 Review Submitted: 11/03/09

Our family rented this house for 30 days. It is a great value for the money. The location and desciption are accurate. It is ideally located in the Poipu area. It is a clean property that is well maintained. It is an older property, but you don't really have to worry about young ones doing damage :-). The Poipu area has great beaches for little ones (Poipu Beach) and older kids, Shipwreck and Breneckee's (surfing or boggie boarding). All are within a 5-10 minute walk, which is great because parking can be an issue at the beach facilities. The home's enclosed lanai with BBQ is wonderful. We cooked many meals outside and enjoyed the lanai/patio table in the eveings. Access to a washer and dryer means light packing -- that is important especially with children. The nearby pool with hot tub is well maintained and stays open in the evenings. There is nearby shopping and some great restaurants from casual to fine dining. Eating Puka Dogs is a must at least once for everyone. The nice thing about the Poipu area is easy access to Lihue and the airport and the leeward side of the island with Wameai Canyon. When you drive north, it gets a little crazy to find parking and if you park in the no parking areas you will get ticketed. We watched the police ticket dozen's of vehicles on a regular basis on the Windward and North shores. Anyway, you cannot beat the price for this vacation rental. Other homes in the area go for much more. Remeber, the vacation rental is to enjoy each other not luxury accomodations. My only caution on this property is to remember there is no air conditioning and it takes some time to get used to the humidity. However, the evening breezes make the nights completely enjoyable for sleeping. There a cool breezes during the day also, but most of the time you should be at the beach and in the water.

We spent our Christmas Holiday 2008 on Kauai staying at Hale Ha’upu, home of the DeAngelis. It was a perfect vacation, bringing together our daughter, son-in-law, and new grandson from Australia with our son’s USA family to celebrate the holiday. Our daughter arrived first and went in the house while my son-in-law was gathering the baby. She came out crying and her husband asked what was wrong and she said, “It is beautiful!” And that was the beginning of an absolutely perfect vacation in a lovely home. Now for the home. It allowed us the luxury of being together, but the freedom of privacy when we wanted it. It has 2 large master bedrooms, 2 additional bedrooms and a total of 3 bathrooms. This was perfect for our family. Everyday we were off to see a sight in Kauai, the canyons, waterfalls, and beautiful beaches. The Hyatt, a 5-minute stroll, is a pleasure with their restaurants, evening activities, and Monk seals on the beach. If you choose to go to Kauai (highly recommended) I suggest you go the Smith’s Luau. It was very reasonable and perfect. Even our granddaughter said it was, “Awesome!” High praise from an eight year old. Mahalo to the DeAngelis for allowing us to use their lovely home for our perfect family vacation.

WOW! What can I say. My sisters and I made the trek to Kauai for a "Sisters Vacation". I am lucky enough to have known the owners for years and managed to grab this house for a week. We went everywhere on the island and found it beautiful, fascinating and a wonderful, relaxing vacation. I give the house 5 stars for comfort, cleanliness and the way it is "stocked" with everything you need - in fact we left some floaty noodles for the next visitors.... Please read the book that Sonya has put in the house -- it gives lots of good information including things to see and food to try. PUKA DOGS -- We LOVED them and went there twice... a very nice island twist on a hot dog with some interesting sauces for interest!!! For some AWESOME Shrimp try the Shrimp Station in Waimea -- you can visit before of after you see Waimea Canyon. The shrimp at this little outdoor fast food place was to die for! It is on the main road in Waimea.... GO THERE FOR SURE.... The Sheraton Luau was very fun and had great entertainment and food. My sisters and I will definitely go back and stay in one of Ron and Sonya's homes... I want to take my kids and grandkids there as well... The cost is worth every cent you pay!!!! Thanks to Sonya and Ron for this AMAZING vacation!!!

perfect location for families with small children

With two families comprising of 4 kids-- ages 2, 4, 11, and 14-- this house was perfectly located. The kids had plenty of room to run on the greenbelt and we didn't have to worry about the little ones rushing straight into the ocean because we weren't right on the beach. still, it was just a quick 4-minute, traffic-free walk to the beach. It was much nicer and roomier than staying in a hotel. We appreciated all of the ameneties in the house, especially the washer and dryer. If I have one gripe, it's a small one, and wouldn't really apply to families with older kids. Our smallest child drags a blanket around and the floor was not as clean as we would have liked. However, we realize it is a beach house so we shouldn't hold it up to the same standards as a normal house. Also, as I mentioned, there is a washer and dryer which we sneaked the blanket into several times during our stay. Overall, we had a very nice time. The layout was great for 2 families. Both master bedrooms were fine for adults (there was no concern over who would get the "better" bedroom) and the large kitchen lends itself to everyone pitching in at dinnertime. We had a great time.

House on Greenbelt

Guest: Meff (Chicago Area)
Date of Stay: 12/01/07 Review Submitted: 03/11/08

We rented the house for 3 months. The house is well maintained, maintenance people came over once for small issue, called and they came the same day. House is very comfy, we had 8 there at one time, we had plenty of room to spread out. Kitchen is adequate. Nice little private courtyard to BBQ on and enjoy drinks and dinner. Washer/dryer in the garage, but not a far at all. Wonderful to have the walking path behind the house, you can walk to the Hyatt or Brennecke's. Owner was very attentive to our needs. Local cleaning service is available, if you contact the owner. Great area to stay in, this was our 14th trip to the Poipu area, so we know it well. Many nice restaurants close by, Plantation Gardens, really nice for dinner, Casa Blanca, great for lunch, Brennecke's for lunch/dinner/drinks. Keoki's , great tropical atmosphere, very good fish, lunch or dinner. Pool was a short walk from the house, easy to get to. Overall a very livable house.

We love both of your houses. This house is particulary great for a large family gathering. We had a family wedding in Kauaii where we blended 3 families with no issues. The great layout which features two master bedrooms with private bathrooms, makes it quite convenient for families to share the residence. There is also another bedroom and shared bathroom off the living area. The bedroom layouts - different bed sizes - makes it easy to mix various family members in one house. The open kitchen, dining and living room area opens up to the front and back patio settings. The green belt off the back patio makes it extra convenient to walk/drive to the beach, pool, and local restaurants/hotels. Young children love playing in the grassy greenbelt. The owners of this house are very helpful. We had some last minute predicaments with wedding arrangements and the owner was most helpful in connecting us with great local businesses that could help us out. The pricing of this house is very reasonable compared to other places in the area. The house is very clean and kept up nicely. It comes with all those extras one doesn't think of - towels, beach accessories, toys for kids, washer/dryer, multiple TV's, network connections, and comfortable furniture. I highly recommend this house as it is situated in a great location.

Sonya~What a perfect vacation for our first & certainly not our last stay in Kauai!!! The house was perfect for our 2 week stay & a great homebase for our travels to view your lovely island. Our first day we took the path to the left and were able to see a whale spouting as we rounded the bend. There was never a need for the use of the umbrella, instead we used the shade of the palm trees along the shoreline. The locals were very helpful with their suggestions. We highly recommend the helicopter ride w/Inter-Island Helicopters, our guide was awesome. The other highlight of our trip was the kayak ride down the Wailua river to the secret waterfalls. We rented 3 kayaks and spent the day discovering the river and all it's secrets. What a beautiful paradise!!! The north shore was amazing with it's endless beaches & beauty. Each night we would return home to cook dinner and enjoy our converstations about the days endeavors and totally relax on your lanai. Then we would gather to view all our photographs taken over the course of the day on the TV. It was a perfect end to a beautiful day!! Sonya, again we would like to thank you for the excellant accommodations and your quick attention to our needs while we stayed at your home. Next time,I think we will try to stay for a month, it was the perfect stress reliever for us Coloradans!!! Cathi & Dave

This was our first visit to Kauai and couldn't have imagined staying in a better place! This house is FABULOUS. We almost stayed in a condo instead, but are sure glad we to stay here due to it's spaciousness, privacy, and ammenities. There were only 6 of us most of the time (2 adults and 4 children) and it worked out perfectly, and when the grandparents stayed part of the time they had their own bedroom so it worked out great. There is a large living/dining/kitchen area, and the private courtyard for grilling/eating/playing was ideal. We ended up staying 4 weeks and it felt like our own home, we didn't want to leave. The location is perfect, and if this is your first time in Kauai most definately you should stay in the Poipu area. While you cannot see the ocean from this house, you can see the mountains, and the house backs up to the Greenbelt, a beatiful walking path that leads down to the beach at the Hyatt in 5 minutes, or go the other direction to be at the Tennis courts/Pool/Jacuzzi area (5 - 10 min walk). This is a great house and the owners are wonderful to deal with. We highly recommend it!
