The Asylum Inn, located along the beautiful Lakeshore of South Haven, Michigan. 4lovely blocks to Lake Michigan Beach. The 3 story brick building was once a private hospital in the 1930's, founded by the Penoyer Family. Today, this Historic Building has been totally restored into a Inn with 3 Master Suites.
We sleep 18-20 guest comfortably. A unique place for Wedding Parties and Family gatherings. Each flat has it's own lock and key. But Opens up to a Mansion. The 3 flats have Master Kitchens and Bathes. Some even have a Jacuzzi Bath. Full Living Rooms with Satellite TV. Fresh Linens, Towels & Bathing products.
Private deck for each flat. Common courtyard with Charcoal Grill. A great gathering place for family and friends. We accommodate small & large groups. Our Inn is centrally located from downtown and walking distance to the beaches...4 lovely blks to Lake Michigan.
Lake Michigan is only steps away from the Inn. Walking distance to the Riverfront. Great Fishing and Charters available. We have over 1001 lakes in Michigan to enjoy. Beautiful Beaches to swim and search for treasures. Scuba diving is becoming a popular sport in Lake Michigan, with all the ship wrecks in our area. You gotta come dive for yourself. Sailboat ride's on the Friends Goodwill old time Ship, docked in the Harbor.
Golf Courses in the area, several to choose from. Kal-Haven Trail is the Bike Trail between South Haven~Kalamazoo, about 30miles. Local Wine Tours available.
The Asylum was totally restored in 2001. Leaving Charm & Character behind. This 3 story brick building has great history & awaits the Curious. The Inn is a place to Relax and Regain your thoughts. Adventure awaits your Friends and Family.

Assylum Inn was a perfect gathering place for a multi-family beach vacation. We had family from 4 states staying at the Inn. The layout provided space for privacy as well as being all together. We really enjoyed the large patio area where we grilled, ate, visited, and played. We loved the nearness to the South Beach, and to downtown South Haven. The Inn was super clean and well maintained with many amenities. Owner was very friendly and responsive. Listing description was accurate regarding location and pictures accurately reflected the rental property. We would definitely recommend this house to others. In fact, we already have! :Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car.
Owner response: The Asylum Inn gaining ground...9years and running!! A few changes through out the decade. Private Court Yard with ideas to add privacy for guest. Thanks for your tips. Catering to more Wedding Parties. But book early for your choice of dates. Always fabulous for Family Gatherings. The Asylum well channel you back in..come again real soon.

House was very nice, with the perfect set up for separate families. The location is great, with a coffeeshop, bookstore and Farmers' Market a block away, and downtown and the beach within walking distance.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car.
Owner response: The Asylum Inn has tons of space to spread out. Great for Family gatherings. Plenty of sleeping rooms and beds. Each Flat has their own LR, Kitchens and plenty of Bathrooms for everyone. Private Decks off the back. Tucked in a residential neighborhood, but close to town. Grandparents on the 1st flat, Kids on the 2nd flat and those looking for Private time on the 3rd. We try to accomodate the entire family and friends...The Asylum Inn will haunt you to come again...

Our family of 18 celebrated my sister's 60th birthday at the Asylum Inn and it was fantastic!!! We rented the whole inn during the Blueberry Festival and we had an absolutely wonderful time. The location of the Inn is incredible - a few steps from downtown South Haven!! We walked to everything - shops, restaurants and the lake. Never had to move our car. The Inn is very spacious - 3 floors, 3 kitchens, many bathrooms and a huge courtyard to park cars and picnic and enjoy the outdoors. There are several tables outside and a bbq for grilling. The Inn was beautifully decorated. It was fun to just walk around and look at all the art and antiques. The beds were extremely comfortable and we all slept very well. The Inn provided everything you could possible need - wifi, dvd, movies, books games. What a great place to stay. Thank you. We will be back.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

The Asylum Inn holds a special place in my heart and we’ve stayed there several times. We are planning a return visit this Labor Day. The last time we were there was Sept 2010. My family of four (including a 10 and 14 year old) stayed in the Hunters Lodge, and our good friends stayed in the Garden Suite (they have three kids 14, 12, 3). My friend was concerned about the three year old staying at an inn, but it was very homey and kid friendly. Tina provides books, movies, board games, cable and wi-fi. All the modern comforts of home for the kids. ? The location, walking distance to dining, shopping and the beach is a definite plus. All of the kids had such a great weekend, they have asked for it to be an annual event. I have never found anything at all untidy. The kitchen is always spotless. We love the amenities of the full kitchen. I have never needed anything other than our own food. The beds are very comfortable and bedding always fresh and clean. I have high standards and I have stayed in places where I have had concerns about the cleanliness and wished I had brought my own bedding. I have never felt that way at The Asylum Inn. I would not hesitate to book your event at The Asylum Inn.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, people with disabilities.

About the owner: Mark & Tina Goodrich are South Haven Locals. We've lived here most of our lives. We have 5 Children, combined family. The Asylum Inn was founded in 2002. We nick named the buidling 'The Asylum'. It was in desrepair and needed alot of love. It was the 1st private Hospital in SH in 1930's. Our Children and Family together worked on the building to where it is today. We love to share the Inn with our Family & Friends...

South Haven is a Beautiful place to Live and Vacation. We lived here most of our lives. The locals are very friendly. The Lake is breath taking. We absolutely love it. The Investment is where do you wanna be...near the lake.
