The house is a four bedroom two bath brick cape, built in 1935, with an added jalousie porch and finished basement. All floors are hardwood or tile. The house is closest to Thayer/South Gate and is within walking distance to downtown. Location is within USMA walking privileges.

Grounds
The house is set on one half acre right in the village, and is across from the pond at Roe Park, which has a great playground and basketball courts. In the back, there is a wooded view and complete privacy.

Parking
There is abundant parking on and off street. You can park three cars at the bottom of the driveway and still get in out and without having to jockey them around. You can park more cars behind the three at the bottom of the driveway, but would have to move them around to get in and out.

First floor
There are two bedrooms, 13'6'X13', with ceiling fans, with one bedroom used as an office with a queen sofa bed, and the other with a queen bed.

The living room has a couch and loveseat, leather recliner, side chair, fireplace and TV. There are some games and books, too.

Bath (gut renovated 2009), includes tub and shower.

The kitchen (gut renovated 2009) has stainless steel appliances, granite counters (breakfast bar, too), and is open to the dining room, which can seat six or more with leaves in the table.

Large 3 season jalousie porch (13'X20') right off the kitchen/dining room area with wicker furniture, two loveseats, table and four chairs for extra eating capability.

Second floor
There are two bedrooms 14'6'X14' with ceiling fans and queen beds. One mattress is a memory foam mattress.

Full bath with double sink, whirlpool bath and shower gut renovated 2009

Window air conditioners in upstairs bedrooms, one downstairs bedroom, and the dining room during warmer months.

Basement
There are two finished rooms, one with a couch, loveseat, fireplace and TV, and the other room has a slate top pool table.

There is an unfinished laundry room with a toilet behind a privacy screen, and a sink by the washer and dryer.

Our Pets
We do stay at the house about three times a year and bring our two cats and a dog. If you have EXTREME cat allergies, this may not work for you. We do keep the first floor bedroom door closed when we are there so no animals go in there. The cleaning service also washes the quilts after each rental or personal stay along with the regular bedding. The dog is standard poodle, so there should be no allergy issues arising from her.

Bringing your pet will be discussed on a case by case basis.

About: Even though this is a second home for us, it is close to our hearts since Highland Falls is my husband's 'home town.' We relocated to the Raleigh, NC area in 2008, but just couldn't stay away. For that reason, this is not your typical vacation rental. The house was set up for our convenience, lovingly furnished and decorated with a combination of auction finds, family mementos, furniture we already had, and new furniture. We do come to the house several times a year, so you will be 'sharing' some closet spaces with our 'stuff'.

Why Highland Falls:
This house had 'good bones' when we bought it from long time Highland Falls residents. We embarked on a renovation to make it more practical. The wall was taken down between the kitchen and dining room, the door to the jalousie porch was moved from the kitchen to the dining room so we could have breakfast bar, and we proceeded to install all new cabinets, a tile floor, and appliances. Both bathrooms were stripped to the studs and built up again. First floor hardwood floors were refinished and ceiling fans were placed in all of the bedrooms. We put in a door from the laundry room to the outside. We admittedly had fun getting the house set up for every day use for more than just we two - from the coffee pots to the silverware and towels. WE finished the basement family room and added a pool table room in an unfinished area. Once again, the two basement rooms were stripped to the studs, insulated, received new windows, new sheet rock, had the plumbing rerouted, and new tile floors installed.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
The house is special to us because of its age and history. You'll also note multiple common areas, from the kitchen to the jalousie porch to the family room and the pool table room. There is a wonderful covered porch off the dining room where you can watch joggers around the pond, or just listen to the birds while having your coffee, The living room has old woodwork on the entire wall that houses the fireplace. There is picture molding instead of crown molding, a testament to when the house was built. The ceilings are nice and high, even in the basement.
