Location: Annapolis, Maryland, USA

Accommodations:  Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths (Sleeps 4-6)

1930s style cottage at water's edge, a leisurely sail up the scenic Magothy River just far enough off the bay to be in calm protected water. We are located on a secluded point in a small bay of the river behind a tall iron gate and a high native stone wall. The compound has over 900 ft on the river and has an interesting history. The cottage has just been completely renovated, new everything, but retains its quaint charm. Another slightly smaller 2br/1bth cottage is also available here at the same estate.

Youll have your own private deep-water pier, just 15 feet from your riverfront porch, with 30 amp marine electric service and water. We provide a motor pontoon boat, seats 6-8, for you to explore this big river and its miles of creeks. It's a 15 min cruise down to a typical waterfront crabshack; dock up and enjoy our famous Maryland bluecrabs. Or join us (no charge) on our 41 ketch for a sail on the river or the bay. A Hunter 31' sloop on the pier is available for bareboat charter.

Our home is here in the same compound, but secluded and out of your way. We're always available if you need anything. We make every effort to see you are comfortable and have a great vacation.

By car, Annapolis, with its Naval Academy, museums, historic waterfront, shops, and world-class restaurants is just 10-15 minutes away. BWI Airport is 20 minutes on fast expressway, Baltimore historic waterfront and major league sports are 20 minutes, and Washington, D.C. Capitol Hill is under an hour.

We hope to see you!

    • Thanks to Chuck and Ivelisse (and especially Smokey, their Golden Retriever) for making our vacation so pleasant. The cottage was cute and wonderfully located on great piece of land on the Magothy River. Chuck was available when needed -- we never had any problems -- and also to swap stories, share a drink or a meal, or play with Smokey. We would highly recommend a stay here; between the views, the pontoon boat and kayaks, and Chuck's gracious hospitality, we were as relaxed and entertained as we could have hoped.

    • I have just returned to Europe and this time, leaving the US was very sad. We had found the perfect vacation home: every bit as lovely as advertised, cozy, beautiful garden and good kayaking! And the cutest dog - Smokey, a handsome Golden Retriever- came by to say "Good Morning" every day. Chuck and Ivelisse are very nice and helpful hosts, they looked after us very well, yet in an entirely non-intrusive way, and they even entertained our 17-year old son, when we went away for two days. Thank you Chuck and Ivelisse, again for this! This cottage was the perfect home for three weeks of holidays and we consider coming back!

    • What a great experience!! This was our first time renting a vacation home from a private owner and it couldn't have gone better. The owners were so easy to work with, very responsive and thorough in all correspondence prior to our stay. The accommodations are exceptional, every bit as good as advertised, and the location was ideal for us having small children. Baltimore and Annapolis were close enough to take morning trips and be back in the afternoon for naptime. Plenty to do on the property too. Beautifully landscaped and cared for with great attention to detail, they even have fresh vegetables for your use growing in gardens around the property (if you are fortunate enough to stay at the proper time of year as we were). Additionally, it was really nice to have use of the various boats at our leisure, to run and grab dinner or just to explore the local waterways. We definitely will return to Bird Haven.

    • Three generations of our family enjoyed a wonderful week at Bird Haven! We rented both cottages and they were well appointed and very clean. Chuck did a great job of checking on us, providing us good advice and suggestions for the area, and taking care of all of our needs. We especially enjoyed the tour of the Magothy River and the bay area aboard the sailboat with Chuck and Smokey. We would love to visit again in the future.

    • My family and I stayed in the smaller of the two guess houses on the property. We had a fantastic time. The owners are friendly and helpful and the views are beautiful and relaxing. A short drive into Annapolis makes this a great location.

    • We loved this house and the property -- it was just the right size for us and our two young boys. The features here made it a perfect family vacation house -- open layout inside, use of the pontoon boat and grill outside, beautiful property for our boys to explore, bald eagles on the tree across the river! And the owners couldn't have been more welcoming and warm -- it was a real pleasure to have them nearby. We're looking forward to coming back again.

    • ***** My family spent the week of Thanksgiving in the larger cottage. The owners are on-site and wonderful hosts, taking care of our every request. Although it was cool weather and we could not enjoy sailing and watersports, we thoroughly enjoyed the blazing fireplace, amazing setting and quiet strolls around the property. We plan to stay here again and again when we visit our son at USNA, which is an easy 15 min drive. I highly recommend this cottage.

    • The owners not only have provided charming, clean, comfortable cottages but also hospitality that is second to none. Having boats to use whenever and sailing on the owners' sailboat were just two of the many amenities provided. Smokey, the resident golden retriever and sailboat "captain," entertains his guests with kisses and tricks. I would go back in a heartbeat.

    • My family and I stayed in the larger of the two guest houses. We enjoyed the property very much. The owners were wonderful and Smokey (our daily visitor) was great!!! We hope to return this year. 30 min. drive to D.C. and many opportunities for relaxation at the cottage.

    • Our family stayed here in July, 2006 and we had a GREAT time! The kids enjoyed using the boats, swimming in the river, and being close to both Annapolis and Washington, D.C. The cottage was clean, welcoming, and comfortable. Going out for a sail with the owner was a highlight of the trip. We went to Dobbins Island, the kids swam from the boat to the island (with Smokey the dog (first mate)), and enjoyed the afternoon. We would highly recommend this property for your vacation.
