Classic New England Beach Cottage
Year Purchased: 2002
Why the Owner Chose Rockport
We live full time in a rural, landlocked area. My husband and I both vacationed at the beach as children and we looked for years for the perfect beach house and community. For us, Rockport is perfect. It maintains its historic character with beautiful18th and 19th c. architecture just like Nantucket, it has beautiful, unspoiled beaches and sea views like Cape Cod, the Hamptons and Maine and yet it is easy to get to, no ferries or bridges, usually little traffic and a one hour drive or train ride from the cultural attractions of a major city, Boston. It is a comfortable, welcoming place, not at all stuffy or pretentious.
We spend as much time in Rockport as we can but we both work full time and so we are happy to share our cute little cottage with others who will appreciate it.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage
We always think we are going to go exploring and do some of the wonderful sightseeing the New England coast offers, but we love our cottage so much, we often prefer to just relax and breath in the ocean breezes from our screen porch- like living room (It has large windows on three sides) or from our deck. We walk from our house every day. Either towards the beach or towards the village, both of which are about a 10 to 15 minute scenic walk away. We love to go for breakfast in Rockport and we either pick up cooked lobsters on the dock in Rockport and bring them home to eat or grill fresh fish from the docks in Gloucester for dinner. My husband likes to gather a group of friends and charter a fishing boat. They catch fabulous Cod and haddock and after a feast, we freeze the rest of the catch and enjoy it all winter.
Quaint, new england fishing village, artist colony, shops and restaurants, library, marina.
Owner's Map of Rockport
I am an architect and my husband is a lawyer. We like to walk and read and cook and most of all to spend time with our families. We have two wonderful grown up children who love coming to Rockport. As an Architect, I had so much fun finding the perfect beach house furnishings and when my father gave me his grandfather's nautical etchings and watercolors, I was able to complete the look I was aiming for.

We’ve been renting the Arbory Cottage for many years. It feels like home and is always bright, clean, and welcoming when we arrive. It is situated below an infrequently traveled street. The front and back yards are spacious and perfect for children. Rose of Sharon bushes are everywhere and a majestic willow sits near the rear porch. The rear deck is pleasant for meals al fresco and has a nice large Weber gas grill. Many’s the August night we’ve sat and watched meteor showers from it. The cottage’s dining room has a nautical theme. One whole wall is festooned with antique prints of sailing ships. Models of windjammers are situated above the fireplace and opposite wall. An amply sized dining table can comfortably seat 6 people. One can accommodate guests easily but the place is perfect for a small family, or for a couple. There’s a television, not huge, and a DVD player in the living room and the cottage has Wifi . The kitchen is well appointed and a pleasure to cook in. We’ve loved coming to Cape Ann for decades, and Arbory Cottage has exponentially increased our pleasure.

The cottage is wonderful; beautifully decorated, clean, cozy, with plenty of room to relax. We had teen girls who loved the trundle bed. The location is perfect and we really enjoyed our early morning walks to the ocean. There are lots of things to do and see close by, and many food options for all ages. The kitchen is very nice, and we appreciated having a washer/dryer available. The cottage is well maintained and in a quiet neighborhood, very, very nice.

My friends and I look for a place by the water, where we can spend a week relaxing, chatting and laughing. This cottage was everything we wanted - comfortable, beautifully furnished, near both the water and an ice cream store in town. The kitchen is wonderfully equipped with all the necessary utensils and lovely dishes. A new and efficient washer and dryer are a great bonus in this cozy cottage. The five of us were snug but comfortable, and the deck provided a quiet, open space for conversation and dining. All the information about the area provided by the owners helped us find delicious meals, interesting historic sights and great shopping in the village of Rockport. Though the nearby beach is not for swimming, it affords beautiful views and great exploring. The neighborhood was very quiet in late June, perfect for a ladies' getaway. Thanks so much for sharing a lovely home which has obviously been refurbished with a trained eye toward style and comfort.

Our stay at the cottage was perfect in every way. The decor is beautiful, welcoming and comfortable, helping to give us a pampered experience. The morning light on the sun porch was one of our favorite features as we sat peacefully with our coffee. We could walk to town, if desired, as well as stroll down the road with the ocean at our side. Great restaurants were near by, and we found the townspeople as well as visitors pleasant and welcoming. We would return in an instant!
