Big lakeside deck, two sets of patio furniture, gas grill; kayaks, paddleboat.
Location: Bellaire, Northwest, Michigan, USA (On Beautiful Six Mile Lake, largest in Upper Chain O' Lakes)
Accommodations: Log Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths (Sleeps 7-8)
Just reaching the cabin is a delight in itself. People say you can tell when you enter Antrim County because the road begins to dip and rise like a gentle roller coaster. Patchwork farms perch on rolling hills; heritage cobblestone houses and weathered barns dot the landscape. Stands of maple woods bracket fields of corn and grain. And then there are the lakes. Glacially carved and tucked into the folded hills, around any sweeping curve you may come upon one.
Our cabin sits on such a lake. On a private gravel lane, away from occasional traffic, a stand of cedar and hemlock shelter it. A landmark on the left as you turn into the driveway is one of those old historic Michigan barns, which are fast disappearing from the landscape.
The cabin was built in 2002, on 111 feet on the southeast shore of Six Mile Lake, the headwaters of the Chain O' Lakes where, in a canoe or kayak, you can paddle over sixty miles to Grand Traverse Bay and into Lake Michigan. In the summer the cabin's dock stretches thirty-one feet out into the lake, and chunky bass pausing in the thick reeds and cattails along the shore will streak after your casted lure. Other residents include herons, gulls, turtles, pileated woodpeckers, flying squirrels, mink, and ducks, . . . lots of ducks!
We also have two kayaks available for our guests. They are the solo, sit-in, Otter model, made by Old Town. Sunrise (yellow/orange) in color, they are the perfect way to enjoy a quiet glide among the reeds to spy on that long-legged Great Blue Heron; or a quick sprint across the lake for a little cardio exercise. A two-seater paddleboat is also on hand for some good splashing around, or launch your own boat a mile or so up the lake at a public launch or at Echo Township Park across the lake, with a boat launch and sandy bottom shoreline for swimming.
And location, location, location! Ten minutes to the west is Central Lake with a grocery store, gourmet pizza at Classic Pizza, and local fine art at Adams' Madams (short list). Ten minutes to the north is Ellsworth, with five star dining at The Rowe Inn. Twenty minutes to the south is Bellaire, with unique shops, Lulu’s Bistro for a gourmet meal or Shorts for a microbrew, created onsite. Twenty-five minutes to the southwest is Elk Rapids for amazing antiquing. Twenty minutes to the north is Charlevoix, on Lake Michigan, with more shopping, restaurants and seasonal activities. Fifteen minutes to the east is East Jordan, and the Jordan River Wilderness Area. The Jordan River is among Michigan's cleanest and coldest rivers and was the first river in the state to be federally designated as a National Wild and Scenic River. Not surprisingly, it has some of the best fly-fishing for trout to be found anywhere. Fall is an explosion of red, orange, and yellow when the leaves change. Spring is a burst of green and morel mushroom hunting, . . .and then there’s Summer . . . !
It is an enchanting area, and, as yet, mostly undiscovered. Don’t wait, word will get out. Get here as soon as you can!

(email from Guest)"We had an excellent week at the Six Mile Lake cabin. Very relaxing and great weather...we hardly left it during the week, except to swim and kayak."

(email from Guest)"We enjoyed our stay very much. The kayaks and paddleboat were great and got a lot of use. You were right about the insect populations, they were amazingly non-existent! I couldn't believe it and I think you should emphasize this fact in your ad. It was unbelievable. I've never stayed on a lake where I did not need bug repellant. The only time I needed it was after dark paddling around on the lake fishing. The firepit was nice and your guestbook was also handy. The cabin is beautiful and surprisingly does not need air conditioning at night. Overall you have a fabulous property."

(email from Guest)"We loved staying at your cabin! Truthfully, we mostly 'hung out' and kayaked and fished, played cards, and sat on the dock and on the deck. The cabin is so lovely and laid out so well...sometimes one of us would just go up in the loft to read and enjoy the view between chapters. We also enjoyed all the little details in the cabin as well. Loved the nightstands made out of branches and wood boards in the downstairs bedroom, the bedframes, the telescope, the thermometer in the kitchen window and the interesting clocks in all the rooms as well as accent chairs, pictures, and blankets and throws. The size of the lake is nice as well...one day the water was so still all morning, it resembled a mirror just like you see in jigsaw puzzles. What a peaceful day to kayak. Thank you again...I miss it already."

(email from Guest)"The cabin was (is) gorgeous! Very comfortable, roomy and attractive. The weather was about perfect when we were there. We had a great time, enjoyed playing games, walking the country roads, reading, sometimes turning the fireplace on, having a big fire on the beach, and just generally enjoying being there."
