My family and I had a great time at this cottage. Location was perfect - amenities were spot on and mgmt proactively called to ensure that everything was perfect. As background, this was not our first to time Molokai, as my wife was born on the island so we come back frequent to visit family. There is nothing like hearing the waves roll on the beach as you fall asleep each night and then enjoy your morning coffee while watching the tide. It was so relaxing that our normally very active 9 year old daughter just wanted to sit on the lani and watch the waves. We had a great time! For our next trip to the island, the Cottage at 2a will be our first choice for lodging. For potential travelers -- we provide the following for internet access: While right on the edge of the island and so close to the ocean, there was a decent Verizon 3G signal - which provided reasonably good internet access. Our ATT 3G device did not fair as well as only saw a signal in some parts of the cottage.

Molokai Sweet Home

Molokai touched my heart like few other places I've traveled. This idyllic island is a truly special place, and this wonderful cottage's amazing location embodies it.

I'm still aching for the views of the gorgeous beach, just steps away, that can be seen from the living room, the bedroom and the lanai. More world-class, white-sand beaches await just a few minutes' stroll from the cottage--and we always had them completely to ourselves. For that matter, we almost always had the beach right in front of the cottage to ourselves!

Lulled to sleep each night and waking up each morning to the rhythmic sound crashing waves and a gentle breeze in the palm trees was spellbinding--I can't even describe how much I miss it!

The cottage is cute, clean and well-equipped--very comfortable and relaxing. We also enjoyed having the nice freshwater pool and small convenience store within a minute's walk.

There are only a few very minor issues to mention. The curtains are a bit difficult to open and close and don't provide complete privacy. The ceiling fans run only at high speed and the fans in the kitchen and living room only run with the lights turned on. Also, the screen sliders don't lock, so you have to shut the solid sliders (reducing the wonderful flow of fresh air) when you want lock up. Even though locking screens obviously wouldn't stop anybody who really wants to get in, it might deter a casual prowler or at least offer an added layer of perceived security. For me, however, this cottage's awe-inspiring location and quiet solitude completely trump these small inconveniences.

It won't be soon enough when I can return to my new-found love, sweet Molokai!

Sunset, Solitude, and Serenity

Fantastic location steps from the beach. Almost always had the beach to ourselves. Sunsets were visible from every room. We slept comfortably as the sound of the waves on the rocks put us to sleep! Can't wait to return... Mahalo for the excellent service and friendliness!

Buyer Beware

Beware of not being able to use a credit card for payment. If I receive my deposit refund, then the entire experience is a positive one. More than 30 days after departure, however, the owner has not refunded the security deposit, and has not given me the courtesy of returning polite calls, emails or a snail mail written request for contact. Her statement is that she refunds within 7-10 days of departure. The listing description is accurate and we preferred this west side location significantly more than the east side. There were no chickens that we heard or saw at this location during our stay. The photos are accurate and the place clean with the exception of a thick accumulation of dust on the ceiling fan paddles that fell on the master bed when the fan was turned on. So far, the owner has not answered my questions or concerns regarding the deposit money, nor did she return my one polite call requesting the ceiling fan paddles be cleaned so we could enjoy having the fans on with all the windows open. Ultimately, we didn't use the ceiling fans because the large falling dust bunnies were gross. There is no reason to withhold the deposit as we are two non-drinking, non-smoking property owners ourselves who spent less than 48 hours there and didn't so much as track a fleck of sand in. In Florida, where my check for payment and deposit was sent, the law requires a certified letter be sent with a detailed reason for the withholding of any deposit amount and a time period to respond if there is a dispute. I am in the process of finding out the legal requirement in Hawaii. I felt this was a safe business transaction based on our interaction prior to our stay as Cher is an educator plus the other reviews helped me feel comfortable. I also took pictures of the place both in the condition we found it in and how we left it. I realize things happen in life and hope there is a reasonable explanation. Cher is likely not a bad person, however her lack of communication generates concern for her current business ethics and make us wonder if times are so tough that theivery of our deposit is taking place. Obviously we hope Cher does the right thing because it's the right thing to do and takes care of this immediately. We would not only recommend the property to a friend or relative, we would also consider staying there for a longer period of time, if we receive our deposit from this stay. We absolutely recommend the Mule ride on this island.

I have sent my apologies for the delay in getting her deposit check back to her and thanked her for calling attention to this situation, although doing so publicly seems unwarranted. The check has been returned. This situation has been rectified and will not happen again. Please rest assured I am not thief! As I explained in my e-mail and phone call, my Dad passed away and I moved within a short period of time. We were in hospice for several weeks, then had mounds of paperwork and several memorial services to attend, including one in New England. This unfortunately disrupted my business somewhat and caused the delay. Still this is not meant as an excuse. I accept responsibility. I am not a big corporation; I own just this one cottage and manage the bookings myself. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cottage was exactly as advertised. It could use some minor maintenance but everything worked and was clean. The view from the lanai is exceptional. The beach is right in front of you facing the sunset and the local surfers provide the entertainment. Although the surrounding resort buildings are closed, it provided great privacy and quiet. Nearby beaches such as Dixie Maru provided safe winter time swimming. The nearby network of paved and dirt roads through undeveloped land are perfect for bike riding, walking, and jogging. There are great hikes in either direction along the coast directly out the cottage door. We enjoyed the laid-back, quiet and friendly nature of the entire island. The west-end and the cottage are ideal for those who want to relax or be active outdoors. Cher was easy to work with and we were well pleased.

Wonderful place to stay--Quiet, secluded, stunning beaches

As a rule, Moloka`i is the most quiet of the Hawai`ian islands. If you are looking for a place where lots is happening, Moloka`i will disappoint. But for sheer seclusion and privacy, with fantastic empty beaches at your doorstep, this little cottage on the western tip of Moloka`i will NOT disappoint. This cottage was once part of a large resort/golf course complex that went belly-up. Many large buildings are closed up; the golf course has dried up. The advantage this brings is privacy. The dead 18-hole golf course makes for a terrific walking/running path along the shoreline with beautiful vistas all around you. Several truly deserted beaches are just outside your door or a short walk away. The only time there were visitors to the beach was on the weekend when a few local surfers showed up to surf the beach. There is a small store on site where you can get the basics (including some nice clothing choices) and we were told the swimming pool is going to be reopened--but who needs a pool when there are miles of beaches? From the patio in front of the cottage you can see the glow of lights from Honolulu across the water, but as a amateur stargazer, I really enjoyed the truly dark skies and beautiful stars above me. The cottage itself has all you need. The dividing wall to the bedroom opens up making the whole living/dining/bedroom one big open area. The couch does open up into a bed as well, which was good as my son/daughter-in-law/10-month old (who live on Maui) joined us for a couple of days on Moloka'i. There was room for all. Some of the furnishings may seem a bit dated and could be freshened up, I suppose, but we were not disappointed or unhappy at all. When we came to Moloka`i I expected we'd just come one time and that would be it. But staying at the cottage 2A made me rethink that and I'm pretty sure we will be coming back. Moloka`i is quiet, laid back, and very friendly.

Wonderful Breezes, Crashing Waves, Beautiful Beaches

The breezes were constant and refreshing. The crashing waves just outside the cottage provided music to our ears. In addition to the beach out front we could take a short walk (to the north) and in just a few minutes we could visit 5 small beaches/coves with great views, high cliffs, and tidal pools. When the swell was up we had fun watching the surfers and paddle boarders without leaving the cottage. We asked Cathi (local caretaker) to stock up with fresh island foods; and we arrived with a bounty waiting. She did a great job of getting just what we requested; she carefully bought high quality, organic, and locally grown prodcuts. This was our headquarters for 5 days on Molokai, and it was a great place to spend the evenings after a full day of adventure. The great thing about this island is the lack of crowds, the local charm, and the size; allowing us to explore much of the island without changing accommodations.

Great Location, Comoforting Accomodations

Loved the location of this condo and it was nice to see the owner take pride in their property by making sure it is well equipped and inviting. Although the common areas around the property such as the pool and lawn areas were not in the best condition, it was through no fault of the condo owner and it was great to see that they kept their own unit in great condition. Fully equipped with TONS of great books, games and music....steps from the ocean and awesome photo opportunities from the lanai. Sleeping arrangements were more than ample for 3 people and our short stay of 3 days was just too short! Look forward to staying longer next time. Thanks for the awesome weekend and I look forward to booking some time again soon.

The ocean views from this cottage are splendid. The waves crashing onto the rocks and adjoining beach were mesmerizing; it was very relaxing to sit, watch, and even sleep in the cottage, listening to the waves. Cher's cottage is very well equipped (we brought all our own food with us) and we enjoyed our whole experience. Mahalo!

Close your eyes and picture this! You're sitting in the middle of paradise listening to the roar of the surf, palm leaves rustling in the wind and the only other noise you can hear are birds singing. Now for entertainment add some local surfers trying to ride waves that topped 25 ft. You watch the sun as it slips out of sight on the pacific ocean. Sound too good to be true well think again! The location of this condo is perfect for surf watching! It is a lovely place with all the amenities; very comfortable and home-y. The west side of Molokai has a fascinating topography and lots of walking trails and long beaches.

We spent a wonderful 7 day honeymoon at this cottage. We would recommend this cottage if you're looking for a slow paced private getaway with a loved one. We found plenty to do to keep us busy the entire time. We enjoyed watching the surfers from the lanai and the breathtaking and unbelievably gorgeous views. By far our favorite part was falling asleep listening to the ocean waves crashing against the shore. The cottage was clean and well equipped and Cher was delightful to deal with. Just returned from the closest beach cottage, we had a great time, we loved the cottage and hope we can return again some time soon. Molokai was one of the prettiest places I ever been. Be sure to take some tennis shoes you'll want to do a lot of walking.

We had a wonderful stay at this cottage. It's in a nice location, right on the beach. The most people we saw on the beach at any one time was maybe 3. It was great. Lots of room for walking, shell hunting and exploring the tide pools. Beautiful sunsets. The cottage itself was comfortable and clean. So relaxing.

This was our second visit to Cottage 2A. The condo is nice, and the kitchen is well-stocked. The TV has cable, and there is a VCR/DVD combo as well. Having the washer/dryer in the unit was great. You can get a wifi signal in the cottage as well. Views are great from the lanai, and listening to the waves hit the beach is wonderfully soothing. If you are looking to get away from the crowds, Molokai is for you. Just realize that the hotel part of this property has been closed for some time and the golf course closed in 2008. The grounds where the condos are is being maintained and look nice. There is a convenience store on site, which is nice to have. The pool is temporarily closed, but during the summer months, Kepuhi Beach (which the cottage overlooks) and Makehorse Beach (just a short walk up the golf course to the north) are good for swimming, and the water is wonderful! We enjoyed our stay once again. The owner is quick to address any questions or concerns which is appreciated.

If you are looking for a beautiful ocean view, with peace, tranquility and the wonderful sound of the crashing waves then you must stay at this condo! It was well equipped with everything you could possibly need for the kitchen, bathroom, laundry, TV, videos, books, music and even swim towels and the boogie boards for surfing! On Molokai you have the most authentic Hawaiian feel of all the islands. It is laid back, relaxing and there are plenty of sights to see as well, and you don't feel rushed there. Cher's condo is perfect if you are looking to rest and relax. My husband and I spent the first week of our honeymoon here and the second week jumping all the other islands, but by far we prefer and absolutely loved Cher's condo.
