Terrible, filthy and over crowded

Arrived on Sunday afternoon late August. The cabin was filthy. We had been assured by the owner (an elderly lady who apparently never comes to the site anymore, her son is the caretaker and he lives across the street and does not appear to put much effort into the upkeep) that after the cottages are vacated, 4 hours on average are spent cleaning them. When we arrived the only thing in the cabin that was clean were the linens and the cooking utensils and dishes and silverware. The carpet and furniture were disgusting and the bathroom was gross. We had to spread the extra blankets on all of the furniture before we would sit down it was that filthy with stains and encrusted filth all over the coach and chairs. The beach was crowded with childrens play equipment with no where to even spread a towel. There are not 3 cabins but five on a very narrow lot. The whole place was filled so it was very crowded with kids running around everywhere. We had been assured that it would be a lovely place for a romantic getaway. The t.v. had no remote. The outdoor furniture was old and worn out with slip covers and cushions that were filthy and worn with holes in them. The advertised wireless internet does not reach to the cabins. It comes from the owners son/caretakers house across the highway. My fiancee needed to file reports and paperwork throughout the week and was told she could use the picnic table off the main bldg (right off the highway) to do this. We left after the first night of a weeks booking because this was not acceptable. The owners were very nice about allowing us to break the booking. I will say that. I am sure we were not the first to do this. I was truly appalled when we first entered the cabin. I should have immediately said something but I chose not to as I did not know if this would have been a good enough reason to cancel. The lack of internet access was the last straw. We spent a fit full sleepless night on a rock hard bed before leaving first thing in the morning. The coffee pot had mix and match (the wrong) parts and took forever to brew one pot of coffee. They do accept dogs. That is the only good thing I can say about this place. It was a horrible experience.

Owner response:I am very sorry this customer thinks this way. I should point out that when a renter shows up we tour the cottage together and if they don't want to stay they have a choice to stay or leave with a refunded deposit. This particular couple said nothing to the management about the cottage being filthy. This is a clean cottage and has been rebooked year after year by repeat customers. There is no couch in this rental. There is a 3 year old futon, used 12 weeks out of the year. The beds have soft, firm and hard, you pick the room. If they had a problem with kids, then the should of stated that they preferred no people and we would have suggested the east A frame, however the cost would have been more than what was quoted and was unavailable when they arrived. Remote controls are for couch potatoes, we don't state we have them although we do when not taken home for solviners. The wireless I do have to say was not working that weekend and we were waiting for a tech to figure out what the problem was. The repeater took a lighting hit 3 days before and was working the day they left. As to the imaginary highway, County Road 100, it is a single lane road, with a bike lane. The management lives across the road, which is approximately 100 feet away from the beginning rental property. The property goes 300 feet to the lake with 150 feet lake frontage. As management, we feel we go out of the way for our customers; however sometimes you just can't satisfy everyone. We have noticed patrons expecting secluded beach front with no sharing amenities; however there are other cottages on this property that share the same beach. The cottage they had reserved is right on the lake with no other people sharing the 30ft part of the frontage. Why so long to post negative feed back? Owner
