This is an excellent Florence Vacation Apartment if an historic center location and affordability are top priorities. The Michaela Florence apartment is a perfect retreat from Florence's busy downtown streets, and is more spacious and affordable then comparably priced Florence hotel rooms, plus it has the added benefits of a kitchen, washing machine, large bathroom, and sofa area for relaxing.

The apartment is located on Via della Spada off of the high-fashion Via Tornabuoni, with numerous major designer boutiques just outside the front door of the apartment building. Stroll along downtown Florence pedestrian thoroughfares, enjoy outdoor cafes, easy museum access due to the central location, plenty of shopping, restaurants, and the best produce market, the Mercato Centrale, all within walking distance.

Piazza Repubblica only a few blocks away, the Uffizi Gallery, the Duomo and Ponte Vecchio Bridge an easy 5 to 10 minute walk. Just down the street is the famous Palazzo Strozzi. Going in the opposite direction, the Santa Maria Novella train station is an 8 minute walk.

If you are looking for a chic neighborhood and a convenient stopping point at the end of a busy day of sightseeing, the affordable Michaela studio apartment offers the perfect solution. Or, if your dream has been to attend language or cooking school in Florence for several weeks, this apartment provides a cozy and safe home base for your sojourn.

It is located on the 3rd floor (this is called the 2nd floor in Italy) of a four-story apartment building which has an elevator. Once you enter the building there are six steps up to the elevator.

There are two outdoor cafes, two tiny grocery stores "alimentari" and several restaurants on the block where the apartment is located. The Gucci Store is directly behind the apartment building, the Robert Cavalli boutique is right across the street, Salvatore Ferragamo's flagship store and museum are only a 2 minute walk away.

This air conditioned apartment is approximately 275 sq. ft., and has a large picture window that lets in lots of morning light. However, if you want to sleep late there is a blackout shade and drapes to shut out the light! The window overlooks the internal courtyard and service terraces of other apartments.

The sofa opens out into a queen-size bed (actually, it is 3 inches wider then a U.S. queen). Between the living area and the bathroom is a large double-door closet. If you have qualms about sofa bed sleeping please factor this in when making your decision, since a sofa bed with a folding mattress is not going to be the same as a standard mattress. On the other hand, for younger travelers or hearty sleepers the apartment is good for those who are on a tight budget and don't want to compromise on location or cleanliness.

There is an efficiency kitchen, with all new appliances, a 2-burner electric stove top, microwave, toaster, under-the-counter refrigerator, and Italian-style coffeepot. Drip coffeemaker available upon request. The round dining table seats up to four people. The kitchenette is fully stocked with dishes, pots and pans.

The bathroom is excellent with ample halogen lighting, a large fully enclosed shower, toilet, bidet, and heated towel racks. The countertop is spacious and there is very good under-the-sink storage for towels and toiletries. A hairdryer is provided for guests' convenience.

If you want to be right in the center of Florence with a small kitchen and a very nice bathroom plus a washing machine, with all the sites within a few minutes walk, the Michaela apartment is a great choice. Within the same building are our Prisco VRBO #52284, Strozzi VRBO #156868 and Lucia VRBO #328406 vacation rental apartments.

What a wonderful place to stay in Florence!! The friendly greeters, Miki and Franco, were so welcoming and helped us get a feel for the city and the apartment. The apartment itself is surprisingly spacious for a studio apartment, and it had everything we needed, from pots and pans to internet access to a laundry closet down the hall. The furniture is really space-efficient, and all of the cabinets and the whole kitchen unit have sliding doors. It gave us some great ideas for furnishing our new apartment back home. There's a great modern bathroom and beautiful paintings as well. The location is absolutely amazing--it's in a beautiful area near some great cafes and restaurants (not to mention the shopping!) We loved walking to the market everyday to pick out food to make for dinner--such a great way to really experience Italian food.

The Michaela was just right for us and what we wanted to do in our trip to Florence. The location cannot be beat. Via della Spada is an amazing street full of upscale shops and beautiful old cobblestone streets. The place itself was small but great for two people not spending a lot of time in the room itself. The sofa bed is comfortable, not a bed, but still was ok. It is an amazing deal if you compare it to similar hotels and we were able to experience Florence more like locals rather than tourists.

We had a great stay in Florence for the last leg of our Italian vacation. The Michaela apartment offered a home away from home. Franco and Miki were so welcoming and helpful. There are lots of great places to eat nearby and so much to do!

I was in Florence for a week by myself and Michaela was perfect for me. I know Florence very well and the location is within walking distance of everything and very close to the main tourist sites. The apartment itself is very quiet and private, the bathroom is clean and modern, free computer access and printing is available, and Miki and Franco couldn't have been nicer and more helpful. I would definitely return to Michaela if I were in Florence again by myself.

I thought I should send you a note about our four week stay in Florence. Miki and Franco are great greeters and hosts and we certainly appreciated all their efforts. The Michaela apartment was perfectly adequate for our purposes. It was clean, secure, in a perfect location and the price allowed us to spend a little more of our money on visiting museums and shopping for leather goods. Thanks for coordinating everything.

Perfect apartment in Florence for couples. We had a great time in the Michaela apartment for two weeks in April, 2010. The hosts, Miki and Franco, went out of their way to help us out. We did a lot of cooking in so they brought us extra pans, etc. Having an Internet connection on location was an extra plus. Great location, we walked everywhere. If you plan to visit a lot of museums look into the 'Friends of the Uffizi' card. It saves you standing in some long lines.

We found the accommodatons very nice and comfortable. The only drawback was the ice maker did not make ice very well and we Americans like our ice and it could not be purchased anywhere. [The freezer has an ice cube tray, no ice maker. - Lisa] We thought the lighting in the living room could have been better as we did a lot of reading for places to visit, etc. The bathroom was very up-to-speed. The location could not have been any better - it was close to absolutely everything and all within walking distance. The stops and restaurants were great and right at hand. Everyone was very friendly and greeter could not have been more helpful and gracious. It is hard to say what we enjoyed the most as there were so many things to enjoy, but we would have to say just the safety and location of the apartment made our trip absolutely wonderful. Thank you. We look forward to working with you again. Deb and Tom , Tucson, Arizona
