The town of Borrego Springs--pop. 3300 in summer, 11,000 in winter--is located in the heart of the Anza Borrego Desert State Park, the largest state park in the US. Visitors to our valley enjoy golf, hiking, bicycling, off-roading, tennis, star-gazing, art galleries, art festivals, performing arts and live music performances, swimming, shopping, dining at one of our 14 restaurants, various youth activities, horseback riding, paleontology research, and just exploring the area. It's a friendly place, with always something to see or do.
Year Purchased: 2008
About the owner: We're an actively retired couple (him-contractor; her-real estate broker) spending our time traveling 3 to 4 months a year, either in our RV or somewhere in Europe or playing golf at deAnza Country Club with like-minded friends. Although we met in high school, located in a small town in the wine country of northern California, we did not re-connect until a high school reunion 35 years later.
Why the Owner Chose Borrego Springs: Jamie's family has owned this property since the mid 1970's when his parents 'discovered' Borrego Springs while on vacation. Immediately drawn to the beauty and serenity of this desert valley, and the friendliness of its inhabitants, they purchased this mid-century modern home. With many wonderful memories of his time spent here, Jamie shared the place with Kathy during their courtship in 2005. She, too, was immediately enchanted with the area, and when the decision to retire was made, Borrego Springs was the logical and emotional choice. After purchasing the property from the family estate, Jamie began a two-year major renovation, completely updating the structure and systems while retaining the original desert modern design.
The Unique Benefits at this House: Private, open space, quiet neighborhood, centrally located to town center (2 grocery stores, bank, library, art galleries, bike rental, hardware store, clothing and gift stores, dentist, yoga & fitness studios, physical therapist), 5 golf courses, 14 restaurants, fee-based swimming and tennis facilities. Pleasant winter temperatures (360 days of sun annually) invite all to enjoy a multitude of outside activities. The Anza Borrego State Park, the largest state park in the USA, offers a wide variety of informative walking and hiking trips and volunteer opportunities. As an official Dark Sky Community, residents enjoy a multitude of star gazing opportunities. Borrego is a very active artist community, with several noteworthy art galleries, juried festivals, and over 70 artists in residence. Live theatre, music recitals, and a film festival are all part of the performing arts scene. There's so much to see and do in Borrego Springs, especially from November through April, that we look forward to the quieter summer and early fall months.
