Take a plane to Tampa, rent a car and it is under one hour to Anna Maria Island.
Spend your days at the Gulf with blue waters and miles of beach. This island is still "Old Florida" with a laid back feel. If you have kids or feel like a kid: it is four blocks to the Gulf, three blocks to the public library, a cozy live theater, shopping, everything is in walking distance or take the free trolley which runs up and down the length of the island.
In the summer it slows down even more and you imagine Florida 30 years ago. Sure it is hot but bring the cooler to the beach, wear shorts and flip flops and of course the duplex has central air. How about fishing off a pier, on shore or off shore? All the beach stuff too. Rent a bike - make it a tandem. Walk on the beach to the Sandbar restaurant for dinner, watch the sunset and stroll home as the stars twinkle. Sleep in, eat out and relax.
