Just wanted to say we had a fantastic time at Compass Creek. The owners, Tracey and Gary, were wonderful to work with... very responsive and informative, and the process was well-organized from start to finish. We arrived late in the evening and could hear the creek but couldn't see it in the dark... what a wonderful and amazing surprise when we awoke the next morning and saw the property in all its glory! Truly a treat! There was so much to do within a 1-hour drive but our favorite thing of all was to do nothing and just enjoy the family time together. We played Scrabble, Sorry, and Five Crowns (there are lots of other games provided for all interests), worked a puzzle, had amazing campfires, floated in the pond, and waded in the creek. We also played our own "Minute to Win It" challenges in the front yard. We truly enjoyed being unplugged for the week! The kids enjoyed sleeping one night in the bunkhouse but the rest of the evenings on the screened porch in sleeping bags with the sounds of the rushing creek in the background. Tracey and Gary include absolutely everything to make the week a "home away from home." The kitchen was wonderfully equipped... everything I could possibly need to prepare all of our meals for the week. So often in rental places there are 4 spoons, 4 plates, 4 cups, etc. Definitely not the case at Compass Creek. At one point I thought, "Oh I should have brought a twist tie...". A few minutes later, I reached for a spoon and there in the drawer was a stack of twist ties... I mean, there is truly everything we could have possibly needed. And we loved the Tervis tumblers... felt just like we were at home. Citronella candles, extra toothbrushes, kindling and seasoned firewood for the campfire, first aid kit in the bedroom closet, and comfortable bedding, all provided... a big thank you for the little things! We were grateful for the local literature and brochures in the dining room. We took a picnic lunch and did a waterfall hike at High Shoals Creek Falls one day, went to the Georgia Mountain Fair in Hiawassee, explored the town of Hayesville, bought yummy wine at Square One Interiors... but mostly we stayed at the house and enjoyed nature. Again, thank you so much for sharing Compass Creek with us. We had a wonderful and relaxing family vacation!

Four of us enjoyed a great week at this cabin. The pond was a joy to view from the screened porch. The rushing water from the creek was a delight and the campfire setup by the creek with chairs was great for roasting marshmallows. The house is equipped with almost everything you might need for a stay including an ample supply of games and DVDs. We went almost every direction from the cabin to explore new areas, go water rafting, visit museums, etc., and found the the nearby dam an excellent recreation area with swimming, hiking, and boating. The well-stocked Inglis supermarket had everything you could need including a huge variety of pre-prepared foods in case you do not want to cook. You will really enjoy a stay here; it is a real gem.

Comfy beds, well supplied kitchen, very clean accommodations, board games galore, opportunity for hiking, water activities, or just R and R. We did a girls' birthday celebration with our 85 yr old mother and I would be hard pressed to know who had the most fun! It's a winner! And kudos to the owners for their clear and timely communications! Beverly, Nancy, and Judy Malmberg

Everything about this cabin was ideal and idyllic!! We went for our honeymoon and it was perfect!! If you stock up with enough groceries upon arrival, you really don't have to leave the cabin and we practically didn't the last two days. the cabin is extremely well-appointed and in great condition. The sounds of the creek were very relaxing and we spent many hours sitting by it just watching. And twice we roasted hot dogs and marshmallows in the fire pit, something I had not down since I was a teen-ager. Like I wrote, you really don't have to leave the grounds to enjoy your stay, but some ot the things we enjoyed off-premises included kayaking in Hiawassee and hikeing the national forest in GA. Doyle's Restaurant in Murphy was worth the drive and we spent a pleasant evening at the Yacht Club in Hiawassee, enjoying the musician and the burgers. Another great day was heading towards Highlands and seeing the waterfalls (Big Laurel Falls, Dry Falls, and Bridal Veil Falls) along the way. Closer to "home", we enjoyed hiking Julie Mountain Trail and Missy's Mountain Trail, just up the road form the cabin. We definitely will return and we hope that many of our friends and family get to go too!!!

Compass Creek is a great location to break away from the daily hustle and bustle. The accomodations are comfortable and the house is well equipped. We were able to spend long over due quality family time floating in the pond and wading in the creek. Having the screened in porch was a definate plus for playing board games or relaxing listening to the creek.

This was a very relaxing vacation. Location is good for a number of day trips. Atmosphere is excellent. The sound of the creek close by is amazing. We had family that lived close by come up for a cook-out one day, and my 11 year old niece and everyone else enjoyed the horseshoes, tubing in the pond, playing in the creek, and games of ping pong. This is definitely a vacation rental that is worth the money. We will be back.

We thought we were having to compremise this years vacation because of the economy...no exciting destinations....Boy were we totally suprised when we arrived at Compass Creek. We had the best vacation we ever had! When we arrived we felt so comfortable with all the amenaties, but at the same time knew we were in the awe of the mountains. We were able to enjoy meals out on the patio in comfort, nights by the fire by the creek..what a fairytale. Even though the weather was against us for a few days we explored the local history, thanks to some of the pamphlets that they provide we found some good restuarants, went trout fishing, paning for gold, hiking (we are not the ambitious type, but if you are, there are major trails), had some major ping pong compatitions(thanks for providing the table amoung other games). when the sun popped out we floated in the pond right outside the back door, walked up the creek less than 10 yards away. we explored nature and all of its brilliance. We have taken away from Compass Creek more than we expected. We connected as a family because things were not hectic like most of our past vacations. Compass Creek is a definate must do again and again. Thank you Gary and Tracey for sharing your little piece of peace!!

A very unique place, we LOVED it. It is a very beautiful setting, quiet, well equipped cabin, and the stream really makes it all come together. While it may not be ideal for those who enjoy fancy dining close at hand, it is great for those who plan to cook or don't mind a 8 mile drive that goes through some beautiful country. We found some very good restaurants. We throughly enjoyed our all too brief visit and plan to return. Mike

Our family throughly enjoyed our stay at this wonderful house in the mountains. We really enjoyed the back porch where we had all our meals. The area was also nice- good golf course- Chatuge Shores and the best breakfast for the price at Haysville Family Restaurant that I have had anywhere. Also, Tracey was very helpful in setting up to pre trip details. Highly recommended.

We had a great time at the cabin, the creek was great. Everyday we sat out and listened to the creek running by. It was so peaceful there. A little out of town but not too far, that you couldn't run in if you forgot something. They have a great butcher shop in town ( great steaks). Enjoy all the brochures, they will give you great directions. We will be back.

Granny and Pa along with 6 year old grandson, Griffin, mom and dad arrived at your cabin for our annual October (2008)fall tent camping trip. We ditched the tent this year and all Granny requested was to be on a rushing creek. What a wonderful surprise to not only be directly on a creek but to find a sweet little pond! All of which could be seen and heard right through Granny's bedroom patio doors that opened out to a screened room complete with patio tables, upon each wakening morning! We also ate most of our meals out there so as not to miss anything going on in the pond! There is an abundance of outdoor games including a garage ping pong table, darts and horse shoes. There are inside games and movies, too. Granny and Pa had a surprise "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" Great Smokey Rail Road trip planned and we all had a great time. But the best times were spent right at the cabin, hiking to find a grumbling bear straight up the hill from the cabin and exploring the creek until we had too many rocks to carry back for this old rock hound Granny! Thanks for sharing your little piece of creekside Heaven! The McGee's P.s. You will find our rock version of steak and potatoes on the second shelf of the buffet!

We arrived home today after our best family vacation ever. Compass Creek was everything it was promised to be, and more. Hayesville and the surrounding areas have quite a lot to offer. The kids loved exploring the creek, and swimming in nearby Lake Chatuge. Quite by accident, we "stumbled" into nearby Helen, GA, and immediately fell in love with the Alpine atmopshere. It was the perfect way to end our time down South, and we can't wait to return.

Just got home from spending 10 wonderful days at Compass Creek..WOW!! Our family looks for a SPECIAL CABIN every year and this year was without question the best ever. Very comfortable, clean, quiet and secluded but yet not remote. The pond gave our 5 year old a thrill as he caught his first fish over and over again. The firepit by the stream was magical at night and the marshmellows never tasted better. Great hiking, sleeping and coffee on the porch every morning was special. Tracey and Gary told us we would love staying here but they never told us that it would be this nice. Take our advice and book Compass Creek, you won't be sorry. Enjoy and then tell your friends just like we are doing. This home and the surronding area is a little piece of heaven. G-d new what she/he was doing when Compass creek was created.

We had a wonderful time in Hayesville. COmpass Creek is so peaceful and beautiful. The sound of the creek rushing down from the mountains was a peaceful sound to hear all through the day and night. The kids loved fishing in the pond and even caught some fish. While Hayesville is very nice and quaint we reccommend driving to Dillard and having dinner at the Dillard House which was only a little over an hour drive. The drive to Rabun County where it is located is awesome and the food and service is top of the line. We met so many people from all over the United States and thoroughly enjoyed sharing time with them. We even told them about Compass Creek and told them how to check it out. My husband liked it so much he wants to go back in the late spring when the water is warmer so he and our son can enjoy the water since it was so cold during this visit. If you are looking for the perfect vacation spot this is it!!

My husband and I are returning for our second stay this coming week. I am so looking forward to coming back. Our first stay was so peaceful and relaxing. The Hayesville area is just beautiful, with the mountain views and winding roads. The town itself is very quaint. You never know what you might see as you are driving...a couple deer grazing, a horse farm, cattle...and when you get to the cabin, the sound of the running water and the sun shining through the trees....makes you want to stay longer. We are from Florida and I have had so many people tell me how lucky I am to live in paradise....but when I am in Hayesville that is where I feel like I am in paradise. Thanks Gary and Tracey for sharing your home with us. Laura Lee

Lauren and I have had the privilege to stay in this home on two occasions. Each time we came away with fond memories of having had a wonderful time. The Hayesville area is a wonderful escape from the life style of Sarasota. The sounds of the creek and the serenity of the pond made relaxing the order of the day. Hiking, exploring and even traveling to the Tour of Georgia Bike Race all combined to make us want to come back soon. Thank you for sharing your home with us. Lauren and Michael

We recently spent a week at this beautiful home on Compass Creek, and our time could not have been any better. The house is amazing, and the pond and creek are fantastic. There is a huge stretch of land for kids to run and play. Peaceful and relaxing!!! The entire area of Hayesville is the best place to go for a quiet family vacation. If you want to be free from everyday stress and you want to reconnect with the people you love, then this amazing home in this quaint town is the place to do it!!
