Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 1996
We originally purchased the property as an investment for our children's college fund but loved it so much that we decided we'd retire here someday.
Why the Owner Chose Petoskey
We chose this location for several reasons. The other side of the lake has home directly on route 31 which has very high traffic, noise and is not as safe for children. We are in an area of the lake that is somewhat isolated by Oden Island and not in the main boat traffic path. There are 700 acres of state land across the street from us which is great for hiking and snowshoeing. Crooked Lake is the headwaters of the magnificent inland waterway. We're 15 mins. from all of the action including shopping, casino, Little Traverse Bay, beautiful lakefront towns of: Petoskey, Harbor Spring, Bayview, B, plus 15 mins. from Nubs Nob and Boyne Highlands.

Our week at Simple Serenity was one so well enjoyed! The cottage was cozy, clean and being on the quiet side of the lake made it a quiet retreat. Our thirteen year old enjoyed kayaking and even paddled her grandfather around in the canoe on a couple of fishing trips. We took many day trips and must recommend the Polish restaurant on Lake Michigan. It was quite a drive but the location as well as the food was wonderful! We climbed the dunes at the state park near by. Our search for Petoskey stones along Lake Michigan proved successful and we now have many stones to remind us of our great vacation! We enjoyed our week at Simple Serenity and thank our host and hostess for sharing their little bit of heaven!

Everything we needed to have a lovely week of vacation was available to us. My Husband and 12 year old daughter stayed at Simple Serenity for one week in August and were very content. The availablity of the canoe and kayak were a key factor in our our enjoyment. We paddled the lake once every day at least. The close proximity to Harbor Springs, Petoskey and Charlevoix made for severl nice trips to shop, eat, and sight see. The price on this rental was a great value. It is a small but cozy place and neat and clean! We were so pleased to find and choose this place!

We spent 6 nights at this quaint cottage right on the lake. The owners lived up to everything they claimed. This one is cozy and comfortable, with many extras. I especially appreciated how quiet and relaxing this side of the lake is. While on the other side of the island, there is boat traffic and activity, this cottage is planted right along a "no outlet" road. This part of the lake sports a few fisherman and some ducks. The neighbors were friendly and helpful. A - gotta see it to believe it!

Simple Serenity was wonderful. Elsie and Jay have a beautiful place, clean and nicely decorated. My husband and I stayed with our two boys. The location was perfect. Quite and relaxing at the cottage, but close enough to town and Petoskey State Park to head out for a morning or afternoon. The kayak was used quite a bit during our stay. I spent my mornings on the dock reading while listening to the squirrels. The evenings were spent cooking out on the grill or over the firepit and a dip in Crooked Lake. The water was warm and clear. The yard offered plenty of space for the guys to play catch or track ball. Elsie was very helpful in recommending a couple of restaurants (we enjoyed American Spoon and stopped by the Bob-in Again for frozen custard). We drove down to the Magnas Park one night to watch the sun set over the bay, but the sky clouded up. We really didn't mind. It was a nice night anyways. I found many petoskey stones while they took the opportunity to skip stones. We will have to make it back up to Petoskey to see a sunset. When we do, I will be calling Elsie to book Simple Serenity!
