Location: Hayward, Northwest, Wisconsin, USA (20 miles from Hayward on Potato Lake; 2 hrs from Twin Cities)
Accommodations: Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths (Sleeps 6-9)
Keywords: Cabin
Feel like you are away from it all in this tastefully decorated, two-bedroom, 1400-square-foot, rustic, lodge-style cabin on crystal clear, secluded, spring-fed Potato Lake... only 20 miles from Hayward and seven miles from Stone Lake. The cabin has pine throughout, is available year round, and sits above the lake overlooking 120 feet of lake shore. The yard is beautifully landscaped and gradually slopes toward the lake where you will find a dock for your boat, a fishing/storage shed, and a canoe with paddles for your use. There is also a firepit near the deck overlooking the lake to roast marshmallows and share stories.
The kitchen is fully equipped and the stone gas fireplace sits between the dining room and kitchen to be enjoyed while dining or playing games. The living room has 36-inch TV with satellite (Twin Cities local channels) along with a DVD/VCR and a few DVD movies. (please bring your own kitchen linens and bath towels)
Enjoy western sunsets over the lake from either bedroom, the large wraparound deck, or the private deck off the master bedroom. The master bedroom features a log, king-size, Sleep Number bed and also has room for a queen-size, Aero bed. The master bedroom also has a TV with satellite. The second bedroom has log, queen-size bunkbeds (yes, queen over queen) along with its own full bathroom (tub with shower) and is separated from the rest of the cabin by the laundry area for privacy.
This 222-acre,lake has its own boat launch just down the road. The lake has northern, perch, crappie, bluegill, and large mouth bass and fishing must be pretty good based on the many trucks and ice houses in front of the cabin this winter. There are also miles and miles of ATV and snowmobile trails as well as hiking and cross-country skiing trails.
On the way to the cabin there are a couple of great grocery stores (I do like to cook) in Spooner and Hayward. If you have never been to Stone Lake, it is a darling little town with a few points of interest... a couple of antique shops, an unique jewelry store, and a couple restaurants and bars with lots of friendly people. Also in Hayward is a Super Wal-Mart.
For you dog lovers... I will provide a large crate indoors and an outdoor kennel. There is also a large log dog bed inside. Lula and Sailor will not mind sharing! (There is no additional charge for pets)
This truly is a great little getaway and I know you will enjoy it as much as I do.

We originally found this wonderful hideaway on VRBO over 5 years ago and have been return customers each year since our first visit in the summer of 2006. We ABSOLUTELY LOVE everything about the cabin and the location. The beautiful deck is great for bird watching and has wonderful sunsets for romantic outdoor dinners. I think we have only eaten inside for dinner a few times in all the years we have been coming! Our dogs love it so much that they actually refuse to get in the car when it's time to go home. We honestly couldn't love a place more without owning it and look forward to many more visits - we're already planning our 2011 trip! Barbara is beyond wonderful and makes the cabin feel like a home instead of a rental. The listing is very accurate but even the beauty of the pictures doesn't fully capture the essence that is Barbara's "private Idaho"

We rented twice from Barb (July 2007 & Oct 2008). Very easy to work with; communication was great. Property is exactly as described above, and the pictures are accurate. No surprises when you get there with rooms, amenities, etc not being what you expected. Barb's home is absolutely gorgeous, clean, well stocked, and has plenty of room for everyone. Lots of privacy/very quiet. We loved the firepit. Had a fire almost every night. Our dogs loved it too. It's so NICE finding a dog-friendly rental without crazy charges and fees for our furry loved ones. We would not hesitate to return. Grocery shopping in near by Spooner. A few supper clubs within 30 minutes of rental. You can do as little or as much as you want here. Very nice rental. :)
Owner response:Thanks for the nice comments guys!!!!! Your welcome back any time!!!!

The cabin is perfect. We stayed in October and had the worst weather. It snowed and rained alot along with cold, but it made the cabin that much better. Had a wonderful relaxing week and fully enjoyed our time on Potato Lake. Extremely nice cabin and really made us feel like we were up north. Can't wait to return next fall. Barb was extremely easy to work with and we certainly thank you for allowing us in your cabin.

What a beautiful cabin and property! My husband, dogs and I loved our relaxing stay and spent alot of time enjoying the deck and peaceful lake below. We also enjoyed visiting the cute shops in Stone Lake a few miles down the road. I never expected to find such a lovely cabin where my dogs were made to feel as welcome as we were! My husband & I sent my parents & their doggie to this cabin as a gift for their 50th anniversary. They said it was a very beautiful cabin but still comfortable, and it was a perfect time to view fall colors. Maybe next time my husband & I will go!

Very nice cabin! The pictures are right on, the furnishings are beautiful. Our stay was very enjoyable and relaxing. The fishing was great! It was nice to be able to bring our dog along and with the indoor and outdoor kennels we could leave her alone and not worry about anything. We certainly want to come back...

This cabin is very cute and in excellent condition. The rooms are nicely decorated and are very comfortable. We wanted to feel like we were going to a "cabin" and that's exactly what we got. There's good hiking and x-country ski trails within a few minutes of the cabin. There was very little snow so the ice skating was excellent. There were quite a few ice fisherman out. Looked like they were catching northern. I would highly recommend this cabin, especially if you want to bring your dog. We had 2 Dachshunds and a lab with us and they were very happy with their doggie beds and toys. Looking forward to coming back in the summer to use that awesome firepit!

Perfect! Beautiful cozy cabin and surroundings! My family gathered together for a little reunion, and truly enjoyed a wonderful, relaxing getaway. The accommodations were terrific – couldn’t ask for more! The doggies loved it, too! Felt pretty pampered - wanted to bring home the down comforters and Sleep-Number bed. Already talked about doing it again! Thank you for sharing your beautiful cabin – We all loved it!
