Why the Owner Chose Cascade
My husband and I bought this house as a bit of a lark - it was featured in a NYT piece in the Friday "Escapes" section on Feng Shui homes. My mother-in-law was increasingly unable to travel and it just made more and more sense as we talked about it: why don't we buy it so we have a place for all of us to stay when we visit her? I did a little research about VRBO homes in the area and, at least at the time, there wasn't much competition (there's more now but we're still doing okay). We set up the house to please ourselves and our guests at the same time. It was a lot of work, and a lot of fun too.
The Unique Benefits at this House
We love, love, love the view at all hours, from watching the sun come up over the mountains early in the morning to dusk shadows and then sometimes a beautiful moon over the pass. My husband and I also love walking the Mt. Esther trail every morning we can (the head of the trail is a 10-minute walk away). When we're at the house, we enjoy complete privacy and the sense that we've gotten away from it all, but we also love the convenience of driving 20 minutes or less to many shops/attractions, from Colorado Springs to Manitou Springs, Woodland Park, Green Mountain Falls, Cave of the Winds, the local Rock Shop (our kids take forever to spend $5 in there!), Pike's Peak cog train, and more.
Owner's Map of Cascade
Hello, I'm a busy Mom of four kids ages 14 through 6 living in central New Jersey. My past job experiences have included teaching community college and co-founding one of the first parenting websites, Moms Online. Over the last ten years I've gotten involved in managing rental properties here in NJ/PA, volunteering (Girl Scouts and PTO), and tinkering with a new website.

Our family had such a wonderful time in your beautiful home in the mountains. Everything was just perfect the entire stay. During our stay, we went to the Air Force Academy, Fort Carson, Olympic Training Center, and Denver, but wherever we went, this was always a wonderful place to come back to every night. We all enjoyed Esther's Trail and we waited in anticipation of the mysterious bear! Last night htough, we found the garbage can dumped over, so we assumed he had come for a visit. Tomorrow we will venture home to Phoenix - 110 degrees!

The cabin was fabulous! We had a great time and kept busy! The size of the cabin was perfect for 7 adults and 3 children. ...We were up with the sun everyday with those big beautiful windows, and we even saw a bear one day! Thank you for allowing us to have a wonderful time.

We were all entertained by the activities available to us. The house was very convenient and allowed much room for the six of us and the dog. Colorado Springs was very dog friendly the entire time which allowed the whole family to enjoy the stay. We ventured out and drove to Pike's Peak (don't attempt if your vehicle is not in good condition). The Olympic Training center was a great experience and we hit up about every gift shop in a 30-minute radius. Thank you so much for allowing us all to stay -- we enjoyed it very much!

The house is great, completely stocked with everything you would ever need. The grounds are beautiful, just be careful of the rock stairs. The house heats quickly so keep the heat on low or you will boil. We will be back next May and can't wait to see the beautiful mountains again.

This was our third visit to the Kulsa home. We always enjoy our stay! We didn't get to see any bears or mountain lions, but did get a glimpse of some deer and rabbits. There were some type of animal tracks in the snow though. And the snow is beautiful in the mountains this time of year. Katharine is a pleasure to do business with. We always appreciate your cabin while we are in Colorado. Thank you so much!

This is the first time that our family has not celebrated Thanksgiving in Texas. What a joyful experience in the mountains! This house is perfectly situated within short distance to so many family activities. Tucked neatly in the pines, it offers the most amazing views morning, noon, and night. Somehow even coffee tastes better here! Our children really enjoyed exploring the hilly terrain and we adults loved the solitude offered by the huge deck. What surprised all of us is how roomy the house is on the inside -- ideal for sleeping, curling up in front of a television or lounging. Sunrise each morning was an added treat. We will return!

Thank you so much for the use of your beautiful home. We have just been in AWE of your area -- it is so gorgeous! It was 85 degrees Friday, so it was a little warm for us until we realized open windows could do WONDERS! We saw no wildlife except for one little rabbit, but we are headed North to Estes Park, so I think we'll see lots there, and maybe, hopefully a little snow. Thanks again. I hope people here appreciate the beauty in which they live!
