Private Homes cabin description
Sixty year old natural log cabin surrounded by Ponderosa pines and aspens with barn and corral and located on 36 south facing acres. Refurbished by architect/owner and overlooking beautiful Lemon Reservoir.
Open the front door for the short hike down to the high mountain lake stocked with trout and salmon. This is the only residence overlooking the lake.
Step out the back door to the barn and corral and saddle up or hike for miles on well maintained trails into the San Juan National Forest which borders the property. Your only neighbors are the elk, deer and other
inhabitants of the forest.
The house is modern in its conveniences yet rustic in its appearance. It has two levels with a loft. The main level has a living room, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom with queen-size log bed, and kids bedroom with a single bed and fold out chair/kids bed.
The downstairs has a living room, bedroom with a queen-size bed, bathroom, laundry room, and storage room. The loft has a full-size bed, sleeper sofa, and computer desk. There is a front porch and back porch with a large log railed porch overlooking the lake with a picnic table.
We are located 14 miles from Durango and five miles from Vallecito Reservoir. Every imaginable outdoor mountain activity is available within a short walk or drive.
The home is available year round however access can be an issue in the winter. Our driveway is under a quarter of a mile long and can be plowed if there is heavy snows (8200 feet in elevation) in the winter for an extra fee or you can hike in. We have snowshoes, cross-country skis, and numerous sleds available. If it is seclusion and peace and quiet you seek in the winter it is well worth the effort.

Our Favorite Family Tradition
Our Favorite Family Tradition
We just returned from our 3rd stay at this cabin. Our kids (12 & 15) have made a pact to bring their own families here together someday! We love the privacy and the comfortable atmosphere. It is close enough to Durango, Purgatory, and Silverton for day trips. We spent several days hiking and exploring the area around the cabin. It is nice to have access to satellite television, but we choose to ban it - so the kids can experience nature (With the exception of the NBA finals of course :-) The owner is very responsive to inquiries before, during, and after your stay. We definitely recommend the cabin for a fun family getaway!

I would highly recommend this cabin for some great pictures of the fall leaves looking out across the nearby lake. The property is in great condition and while, not far off the road, you certainly do not have to worry about being bothered by noisy neighbors! Please do be aware, however, that Verizon cell coverage does not reach the cabin (my family and I "survived" by making nightly treks into Durango for coffee/hot chocolate to get access to their email, etc). If you are looking for a location to get away from it all, then I would definitely put this property on the list.

Best Family Vacation!
Best Family Vacation!
This was one of our best family vacations we've ever taken. Our kids (9yr & 6yr) had a wonderful time. We fished, hiked, and explored all around the property. Dirk is a gracious owner - We had many questions and he answered them quickly, providing us with as much information to make the most of our 5 night stay. Durango is close and we took several day trips to the town for river rafting and horseback riding. The cabin's deck and fire pit was a hit. We spent most of our days and nights lounging outside, grilling, puting our feet up. This was perfect for what we were looking for.

If you are looking for some seclusion without being too far off the beaten path, this is a great place to stay. Our family had a great time. The cabin is well furnished, scenery was great from the deck, and the owner was available by phone to answer questions. This is one we would rent again in the future.

My family and I stayed at this beautiful mountain cabin at the end of May for several days. The surrounding area was georgeous...overlooking the lake with Aspen all around. It is outside of Durango enough to have the "by yourself" feel, and close enough to journey into town if the need arises. The amenities in the cabin are wonderful. Beautifully decorated with the Colorado outdoors flavor. A loft bedroom, two full bedrooms, and the cellar that is also mow a bedroom and gameroom, gave us more than enough space to enjoy. A well stocked kitchen and satellite tv (can't get too far away from reality) made it very comfy, like being home! I highly recomment this location and will definately stay here again!!

This cabin was fantastic - the entire experience was wonderful for our whole family. The cabin was spacious and clean and everything was exactly as it was described. We had a wonderfully relaxing vacation and will definitely be back! It was the perfect distance from Durango - close enough to drive into town for activities but secluded enough to provide a break from our busy lives. My children especially enjoyed the deer they would see outside their windows every morning.

My family recently spent 5 days at this cabin while visiting the Durango area, and it was, by far, the best 5 days of our 2 week trip out west. The cabin was cozy and comfortable, but with all the modern conveniences. The views of Lemon Reservoir and the surrounding mountains was spectacular, and our 3 boys enjoyed hiking in the nearby woods and stream, and swimming in the lake. We liked star-gazing at night on the porch. This cabin let us truly "get away from it all" and just enjoy each other as a family. We hope to return one day. Ralph and Vicki Dauterive

We just stayed at the cabin this past week and had the most fabulous time. It was the perfect spot to relax with friends and family while having the comfort and conveniences of a home. We hope to return someday soon.

This is a very private, enchanting place. A rustic cabin with every amenity. The view of Lemon Lake pans the peripheral and we feel small overlooking it.Close enough to Durango for dining shopping and more, we still look forward to returning to this quiet retreat in the mountains. It inspires us each time we visit. The next best thing to owning this gem is the thrill of renting it.

I have stayed at the cabin and it is wonderful!! It is very relaxing and quiet. Sitting on the porch in the early evening and watching the sky and animals is great! The cabin is close to Durango if you need anything and close to the lake and rivers if you are looking for fishing. It is a great place to take a vacation and the accomodations are great.
