About the owner: Ownership and property management of the cabin is a family affair. Gerry is the owner and her daughter (Kim) and son-in-law (Kurt) manage the property. Kim and Kurt chose to move to Waynesville in 2005 in order to leave the hustle and bustle of urban life (and traffic) to enjoy a more peaceful, tranquil and beautiful setting and Gerry made the move a couple years later. We both come from small beach towns (Kim on the East Coast & Kurt on the West Coast) and are drawn to the natural beauty and lifestyle of the mountains. Although the terrain is quite different from the beach, the relaxed and casual lifestyle is not.
Why the Owner Chose Waynesville: We didn't choose the property, it chose us, and we’re glad it did. The property was originally purchased by Kim's grandparents in the early 1950's as a summer retreat from the hot South Florida sun. Kim's grandfather R.C. Lawson was a successful contractor in South Florida and built the original cabin on the property. You will notice his office sign hangs in the living room and his tool chest and coveralls are on display on the front porch. Back then there was no interstate system so he would load up a trailer with lumber and supplies and make the two day journey to the mountains to build for a couple weeks at a time. After Kim's grandfather’s death, her grandmother continued to spend the better part of the summer and fall at the cabin and enjoyed sitting at the table next to the plate glass window overlooking the creek and study nature identifying birds and plants. Five generations have now enjoyed this wonderful haven and we are truly blessed by the legacy Kim's grandparents have passed down to us. All these years later we now have three cabins on the property that have been built to accommodate the growing family. The “Cozy Log Cabin” was built around 2006 and it’s our pleasure to share this wonderful little cabin with you.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin: We both worked in the restaurant industry for many years and we truly enjoy the satisfaction of making our guests visit a great experience. We know it's the little things that can make the difference and that is why we take great pride and joy in making our guests feel welcome, comfortable and at home when they stay in our cabin. Kim’s knack for decorating and attention to detail has made our little cabin welcoming, comfortable and nostalgic. We clean the cabin ourselves (nobody cleans like a Southern Woman) to ensure nothing is missed and that everything is spotless as we would want ourselves and we like to welcome you with a fresh baked loaf of bread to pass on some Southern Hospitality. We invite and encourage you to look through and sign the guest book that has comments and signatures from the 1950’s to present day. Nothing brings us more joy then when our guests express their delight and satisfaction of their experience during their stay. Please take the time to read the reviews and you will see what I mean.
