The cabin was exactly as advertised. All the comforts of home and nothing extra to bring except your food. The cabin was immaculate and the kitchen was well stocked with every cooking utensil needed to make any meal you desired. The town of Burnsville had several lovely shops and the people were very friendly. The trip to Mt Mitchell is worth the short ride....the view is breathtaking.Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with young children.

We wanted to get away from the hustle & bustle of city life, and did we ever. No phone, no traffic, no stress, just a relaxing week with nature!! The cabin was very clean with all the modern conveniences, wood-burning fireplace, well-equipped kitchen. We went hiking at a nearby trail and saw the waterfall. We were hoping for snow(Crazy Floridians), but we decided to drive to Banner Elk to see snow(man-made) and go snow-tubing. We enjoyed our stay and the owner Ken, was very helpful throughout the process from beginning to end. We would definitely return, but maybe in the summer months to fully experience the area and all the hiking trails.Recommended for: Pet owners, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, families with young children.

Came from the upstate of SC for a quick mountain trip. The cabin was easy to find and is in a good location for easy access to the Parkway, fishing, hiking and nearby golf. The cabin was spacious and has a good sized lot. Owners were fast in responding to our last minute rental request and the security deposit was refunded within a day of leaving. The place is pet friendly and our dogs loved going from window to window watching for squirrels and birds. The cabin is clean and doesn't smell or look like a pet friendly place sometimes can. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you'd need. Enjoyed using the grill as well. It rained a bit, so we didn't have the pleasure of using the outdoor fire pit, but it looked like a great set-up. Unfortunately all the trails and campgrounds nearby were closed due to some bears in the area recently, so we didn't get to do the hike up Mt. Mitchell, but we'll be back to make that climb. I can see how the road would likely be busy when the campground is open, but while we were there, it was very quiet. My husband did some fishing just a 1/2 mile down the road and caught several rainbow trout. We'll be back I'm sure. Only wish list items would be a fenced off area for the dogs so they can roam outside or even just gating the porch, so they could be outside with us unleashed.Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway.

We were pleasantly surprised by the space, comfort, and convenience of Serendipity Cabin. It is larger than it appears. It was very clean and well-stocked. If you want to explore Western North Carolina, this is the place to be! There are great hiking trails and waterfalls close by, and, for some gorgeous drives, try Highway 80 and the Blue Ridge Parkway, of course.Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, families with teenagers, adventure seekers.

Nice cabin, fairly well equipped, reasonably clean. Location is convenient to Parkway. We were disappointed in the heavy traffic on the street facing the cabin. Didn't expect that on a dirt road. If we'd known in advance that the road led to Black Mountain campground(s) and would be so busy we would likely have rented elsewhere. I found it very difficult walking our dogs due to the traffic, narrow road, heavy undergrowth at roadsides and lush growth of poison ivy. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay.Owner response: Thank you for your feedback. We will address the dog walk situation with a dog run and work with our cleaning crew to improve on reasonably clean.

My wife and I plus our two pups got away for a few days at Serendipity at the base of the Black Mountains. What a treat this cabin has everything you would need for a cozy couple of day retreat or for a week away from it all. The cabin has a fireplace, two roomy bedrooms, an unbeatable great room with a very nice fireplace, neat porches to sit on and reflect and a grill and firepit for roasting weenies or smores. The location is close to golf, horseback riding, tubing, hiking, fishing, and exploring. A nice touch is that there are coffee filters and coffee for you when you arrive. We hiked and enjoyed the environs and had a picnic on the Parkway. Mt Mitchell has a nice cafe that you can sit and look at the mountains. We highly recommend Serendipity and if you are looking to get away from it all for a few days this is the place. Centrally located to Little Switzerland, Mt. Mitchell, Burnsville and Spruce Pine, and oh yeah by all means bring your pups.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, sightseeing, pet owners, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, people with disabilities, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway.

Our family decided to take a last minute trip to the mountains for spring break. Serendipity was the best choice our family could have made. The area was perfect for what we wanted. I was so surprised to find everything I needed in the cabin. It was coz, clean and very well taken care of. The kids especially enjoyed having a creek across the cabin. There was a nice water fall within walking distance from the cabin to enjoy. We will definitely be coming back to stay here. Thanks so muchRecommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with young children.

Our recent stay at Serendipity (Jan 13 - 16, 2011) was everything we had hoped for. The mountains and snow were beautiful, the winter hiking was challenging, and the cabin was comfortable and very well equipped. We had no trouble getting in and out of the area despite the recent snowfalls. It was wonderful to be able to bring our dogs as well. Ken was very attentive and helpful and the cabin and location were exactly as described, if not better. I would strongly recommend this property to anyone who wants a great base camp for enjoying the beauty of the NC mountains. We hope to return in the near future to enjoy (again) the hospitality of our hosts at this great location!Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this cabin. It was very peaceful and relaxing for a much-needed weekend get-away. Immaculately clean. Loved wathching the Hummigbirds at the feeders - well worth the extra effort to fill the feeders with nectar each morning. When you visit this cabin you don't have to worry if you forgot a kitchen tool or gadget you may need for preparing a weekend meal - this place is stocked with any and everything you could possibly need. Driving directions were very thorough. Cabin was easy to locate. Ower provides clear and very instructions and tips to make your stay comfortable. PET FRIENDLY - a HUGE plus in our book! We plan to make a visit to this cabin annually.Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway.

Why the Owner Chose Burnsville:
We wanted to break Out of our normal vacation routine! We were tired of overpaying for cramped hotel rooms and paying exorbitant entertainment costs. We couldn't even bring our dog with us without staying at the worst hotels. We chose North Carolina and the Blue Ridge Mountains because it provides a variety of free entertainment that gets our family's adrenaline pumping.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
When we stay at our cabin, we have the great outdoors right on your doorstep. We pack the bicycles, throw the kayak or tubes on top of the car, and get ready for a vacation of outdoor adventure that the kids (and dog) love! We can drive to Asheville, Water rafting, horseback riding, Gem Mining, Apple and Blueberry picking, etc.
When we visit our cabin home, we are coming to beautiful Yancey County, the land of Mount Mitchell and the Pisgah National Forest. Our cabin is located in an alpine valley. The elevation of roughly 3,000 feet makes for a cooler summer, but the flatness of the terrain makes it easier to reach in the winter. You do not need an all-terrain vehicle to reach us. Hiker's love the fact they can do some very difficult trails and then relax in comfort when they are done.
