We wanted to get away from the hustle & bustle of city life, and did we ever. No phone, no traffic, no stress, just a relaxing week with nature!! The cabin was very clean with all the modern conveniences, wood-burning fireplace, well-equipped kitchen. We went hiking at a nearby trail and saw the waterfall. We were hoping for snow(Crazy Floridians), but we decided to drive to Banner Elk to see snow(man-made) and go snow-tubing. We enjoyed our stay and the owner Ken, was very helpful throughout the process from beginning to end. We would definitely return, but maybe in the summer months to fully experience the area and all the hiking trails.

Came from the upstate of SC for a quick mountain trip. The cabin was easy to find and is in a good location for easy access to the Parkway, fishing, hiking and nearby golf. The cabin was spacious and has a good sized lot. Owners were fast in responding to our last minute rental request and the security deposit was refunded within a day of leaving. The place is pet friendly and our dogs loved going from window to window watching for squirrels and birds. The cabin is clean and doesn't smell or look like a pet friendly place sometimes can. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you'd need. Enjoyed using the grill as well. It rained a bit, so we didn't have the pleasure of using the outdoor fire pit, but it looked like a great set-up. Unfortunately all the trails and campgrounds nearby were closed due to some bears in the area recently, so we didn't get to do the hike up Mt. Mitchell, but we'll be back to make that climb. I can see how the road would likely be busy when the campground is open, but while we were there, it was very quiet. My husband did some fishing just a 1/2 mile down the road and caught several rainbow trout. We'll be back I'm sure. Only wish list items would be a fenced off area for the dogs so they can roam outside or even just gating the porch, so they could be outside with us unleashed.

We were pleasantly surprised by the space, comfort, and convenience of Serendipity Cabin. It is larger than it appears. It was very clean and well-stocked. If you want to explore Western North Carolina, this is the place to be! There are great hiking trails and waterfalls close by, and, for some gorgeous drives, try Highway 80 and the Blue Ridge Parkway, of course.

Nice cabin, fairly well equipped, reasonably clean. Location is convenient to Parkway. We were disappointed in the heavy traffic on the street facing the cabin. Didn't expect that on a dirt road. If we'd known in advance that the road led to Black Mountain campground(s) and would be so busy we would likely have rented elsewhere. I found it very difficult walking our dogs due to the traffic, narrow road, heavy undergrowth at roadsides and lush growth of poison ivy. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay.
Owner response:Thank you for your feedback. We will address the dog walk situation with a dog run and work with our cleaning crew to improve on reasonably clean.

My wife and I plus our two pups got away for a few days at Serendipity at the base of the Black Mountains. What a treat this cabin has everything you would need for a cozy couple of day retreat or for a week away from it all. The cabin has a fireplace, two roomy bedrooms, an unbeatable great room with a very nice fireplace, neat porches to sit on and reflect and a grill and firepit for roasting weenies or smores. The location is close to golf, horseback riding, tubing, hiking, fishing, and exploring. A nice touch is that there are coffee filters and coffee for you when you arrive. We hiked and enjoyed the environs and had a picnic on the Parkway. Mt Mitchell has a nice cafe that you can sit and look at the mountains. We highly recommend Serendipity and if you are looking to get away from it all for a few days this is the place. Centrally located to Little Switzerland, Mt. Mitchell, Burnsville and Spruce Pine, and oh yeah by all means bring your pups.

Our family decided to take a last minute trip to the mountains for spring break. Serendipity was the best choice our family could have made. The area was perfect for what we wanted. I was so surprised to find everything I needed in the cabin. It was coz, clean and very well taken care of. The kids especially enjoyed having a creek across the cabin. There was a nice water fall within walking distance from the cabin to enjoy. We will definitely be coming back to stay here. Thanks so much

Our recent stay at Serendipity (Jan 13 - 16, 2011) was everything we had hoped for. The mountains and snow were beautiful, the winter hiking was challenging, and the cabin was comfortable and very well equipped. We had no trouble getting in and out of the area despite the recent snowfalls. It was wonderful to be able to bring our dogs as well. Ken was very attentive and helpful and the cabin and location were exactly as described, if not better. I would strongly recommend this property to anyone who wants a great base camp for enjoying the beauty of the NC mountains. We hope to return in the near future to enjoy (again) the hospitality of our hosts at this great location!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this cabin. It was very peaceful and relaxing for a much-needed weekend get-away. Immaculately clean. Loved wathching the Hummigbirds at the feeders - well worth the extra effort to fill the feeders with nectar each morning. When you visit this cabin you don't have to worry if you forgot a kitchen tool or gadget you may need for preparing a weekend meal - this place is stocked with any and everything you could possibly need. Driving directions were very thorough. Cabin was easy to locate. Ower provides clear and very instructions and tips to make your stay comfortable. PET FRIENDLY - a HUGE plus in our book! We plan to make a visit to this cabin annually.

Our experience at Serendipity in May of 2010 was even better than we dared to hope. Often pictures on the internet are exaggerated, but this cabin was actually better than the websites made it seem. It was lovely, clean, comfortable, and very well supplied with anything we could have needed. We loved soaking up the peaceful atmosphere on the front porch while listening to the creek and watching the hummingbirds. The hike up nearby Mt. Mitchell was definitely arduous as one guidebook stated, but rewarding and worth the effort. The owners were very helpful in addressing some concerns I had and the security deposit refund was amazingly prompt. The directions to the property were very clear. I absolutely hope to return sometime for a longer stay and would recommend this cabin to my family and friends.

I have stayed at Serendipity a couple of times now, and I truly love it! I am sure I will stay there again in the future. This is a place that is so comfortable, it will definitely grow on you and by your last day, you will not want to leave! The area and cabin is perfect for rest and relaxation, hiking, photography, or just finding some peace! It's a hiker/photographer's dream, as it's so convenient to so many trails and waterfalls and the Blue Ridge Parkway is almost a stone's throw away. If I had the money, I would buy this cabin and make it my second home! The owners are also very accomodating and great to deal with. Spacious bedrooms, huge bathroom, huge kitchen stocked with every item you could ever need. I could go on and on. I adore Serendipity!

The cabin is a lovely getaway that is beautifully furnished and equipped. Our family of four enjoyed our stay there, and we all agreed the shower was as good as home! We especially enjoyed the South Toe River just a few steps away, and our 12-year-old had a ball on the tree swing. We only wish the Blue Ridge Parkway segment nearby hadn't been closed for repairs during our visit.

We had an absolutely wondeful time at your cabin last year in July. The accomodations and location were perfect! We really loved the close proximity to so many hiking trails and the Blue Ridge Parkway...could've done without the black bear sneaking up on us on our last night...but that's just part of why we will want to stay again and again. We saw so much wildlife while we stayed too! The cabin was in pristine condition and the fireplace, internet access, views, and hearing the river from the front porch were great!!!Thanks so much for letting us stay!
