Whale Watch is a lovely new home on the East End of St. John with spectacular views of the Caribbean Sea. At certain times of the year whales are migrating and you may possibly see humpback whales from the deck.

Beautiful views and waves lapping on the beach all contribute to your enjoyment in a private relaxed setting. Whale Watch is located on a private road ending a short distance away. It is a very quiet area with very light traffic. There is a parking area off the street with just a few steps to the front door.

You enter Whale Watch into a bright, cheery, well appointed great room including a sitting area with expansive views of the Sea and a dining area comfortably seating four people. The kitchen adjoins the great room, offering the same great views. In addition to the dining area, there is a breakfast counter for 2 between the kitchen and great room. The large master bedroom and bath is on the same level and offers the same ocean views. A beautiful stone outdoor shower adjoins the master bedroom. A large covered porch is a delightful place to sit and relax and keep an eye out for whales..

Whale Watch is close to several East End beaches. Hansen Bay offers a great beach with terrific snorkeling out and around Pelican Rock. Haulover, another great snorkeling area, is a short drive away. It is about a 12 minute drive to Coral Bay with restaurants, groceries, and rental of snorkel gear. The East End has some of the best snorkeling on the island and is more remote and thus more casual and laid back. We have two complimentary kayaks available to you during your stay, located at the beach for easy access to the water. This area is a wonderful area for kayaking in Round Bay and Hurricane Hole.

SPECIAL FOR WHALE WATCH GUESTS who visit for a minimum of 7 nights - We are offering a complimentary 3 hour tour during your stay on SERENASEA, a 30 ft classic motor yacht. Serenasea can take up to 6 people and is a great way to visit Hurricane Hole where there is terrific snorkeling in the mangroves. We also visit Flanagan Island, between the East End of St. John and Norman Island in the BVIs, if weather permits. We make 2 snorkel stops and offer drinks and a snack.

No Smoking, Please.

Why the Owner Chose East End

I chose this location on the East End of St. John because it offers a continuous fresh trade wind breeze out of the SE. I also enjoy watching the sailboats and cruise ships pass by. It brings back many fond memories of cruising on my boat.

The Unique Benefits at this House

Some of the benefits of staying at Whale Watch include several beaches within walking distance offering good snorkeling, free kayaks for you to use during your stay to explore Hansen Bay and Hurricane Hole, and roads with very little traffic which offer good walking opportunities.

B
Hansen Bay Beach

Great snorkeling to Pelican Rock from here.

C
Haulover Bay Beach

Great snorkeling both on north and south side.

Owner's Map of East End

I sailed to the Caribbean in the mid 90's on my 40ft. sail boat - WATER MUSIC. After sailing down island and visiting all of the Windward and Leeward Islands I returned to St. John. I built Whale Watch in 2004 and love the casual living on the East End. I have many friends on St. John and enjoy meeting the guests who stay at my home.

Whale Watch - Listen to the Waves and Watch for Whales!
5/5

What's NOT to LOVE?!!!

Date of Stay: 02/07/11 Review Submitted: 04/28/11

From the moment you walk in the front door you WILL say "WOW!!!!" There's just no way for a photo to do this place justice.... open, bright, airy, clean, decor that reflects Marie's love of the sea, the incredible deck, and THAT VIEW!!! You will find it hard to pull yourself off of the deck, morning - noon - or night - and do anything else! The neighborhood is "quiet" - you'll actually feel all alone - and the only "noise" is the surf and the crickets....who needs an MP3 player with nature's symphony going on! You'll find everything you need in the kitchen....if you desire to cook! We have been on St John 5X and actually vacationed there 3X - once in Cruz Bay and the last 2 times at Whale Watch... we are currently booked for another 10 days during 2012. The best snorkeling we have found, in all our travels on the island, is, indeed, Hansen/Long Bay, within walking distance of the house. Gorgious bay, beautiful cobblestone beach....most days we've had the place all to ourselves...except for the resident pelicans! Keep your eyes peeled for turtles, reef squid, rays, octopus, dolphins and lobster in this quiet, prestine bay. The kayaks are an added bonus! The 1st morning we ever stayed at Marie's, we saw a whale, spouting on the horizon. And, just this February, we watched a couple of whales frolicking just below the house and out by Le Duck Island ...we watched in sheer delight for a half hour, before they finally sauntered off. What a treat!! And, Marie! What a wonderful, kind, lovely, amazing woman!!! How gracious she is to open her home up to us strangers.... and now we are friends! This truly is a home away from home....and away from it all!! If you're looking for a quiet, relaxing, peaceful get away, this is THE PLACE! We are already counting the days until Feb 2012!
