Oak Bluffs house description
This quaint, four-bedroom, one and a half-bath, campground cottage, with a spacious covered front porch and screened side sitting porch is right off Trinity Circle in the center of the Martha's Vineyard Campground Meeting Association, home of the famous "Gingerbread Cottages." The house, built in 1867, has a full view of the historic national landmark Tabernacle and faces the walking-only Tabernacle Avenue which leads to the center of town.
The cottage is only a short walk to Circuit Avenue, the center of Oak Bluffs, and minutes to many shops, fine restaurants, movie theaters, and the historic Flying Horses carousel. Other nearby in-town activities include island tours, bicycle and mo-ped rentals, a fitness center, and the Oak Bluffs harbor with many fishing charters and ferries to Falmouth, Nantucket Island, and Hyannis. Some beaches are a four to six block walk away from the cottage while others are either a bicycle or car ride. Other villages and island amenities and attractions such as golf, tennis, and fishing are easily reached by car or the MVTA bus, which circuits the island at frequent intervals.
There is a bright front living area with TV and DVD player which overlooks the porch and Tabernacle Avenue. There is a sit-down dining area with stereo and CD player and sitting room, ideal for reading. Upstairs, there are four bedrooms, one with a queen-size bed, two with full-size beds and a twin-size bed in the fourth. There is a small full bath downstairs, a half bath upstairs and an outdoor shower in the rear of the cottage.
Kitchen facilities include a coffeemaker, microwave, blender, and all necessary cooking pots and utensils. The furnishings are tasteful, staying with the historic "feel" of the over 100 year old dwelling. There is a small deck with barbecue and lounge chairs overlooking the rear garden.
"Older" children are welcome (the cottage is not toddler proof). Pets are negotiable (like a goldfish would be OK). There is no handicapped access. Please bring your own sheets and towels or we can recommend an island linen delivery and pick up service that will provide for all your needs while you enjoy your stay.
The house is about a five-minute walk from the Oak Bluffs ferry terminal and a ten-minute drive from Vineyard Haven. Ferry reservations from Woods Hole, to Oak Bluffs or Vineyard Haven are required for cars (there is no stand-by) and are available through the website for the Steamship Authority. Other walk-on ferry info is available on the Steamship site or originating from Rhode Island at the website for Vineyard Fast Ferry.

Why the Owner Chose Oak Bluffs:
My grandparents purchased the cottage in 1970. My mother lived there with them and then passed the cottage on to me, the only daughter, in 1995. My husband, our daugthers, and our family share it for long weekends and some summer vacations. We like to share it as well with families who appreciate the history and warmth of the Campground.

The Island has a little bit of everything. Our house is right by town center, a short walk or ride to most area beaches and great eateries. I love the beach, our daughters love the shopping and the Flying Horses, my husband loves the Offshore Ale Co. brewery and we all love the ice cream!
