We stayed for 2 weeks in Mar and this was the best trip so far. We could not ask for anything more. There was 5 of us and it was more than roomy. The house is layout was great, We spent most of our time by the pool drinking margaritas. Certain areas where well shaded from the hot sun. Jennifer the owner through email and telephone was extremely pleasent and helpfull. The best part was Jarra and Elbi the caretakers our amigos, they went over and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. The fresh shrimp, lobster and red snapper were devine. This house combined with Jarra and ellbi is a must if you want a perfect vacation. We also got to know Angie at crocodile man tours and her husband Rodrigo who was our personal guide on several tours. Kevin at Pacific horse back riding was a great guide, funny and speaks good english. Please give a treat to Freddy, Paloma, Coco, Pinta and Miyu, our home away from home pets. Thanks for the great holliday Burt and GinaOwner response: Thank you so much for your wonderful review. I am so glad that you enjoyed our second home as much as we do. It's true that Jarra & Elbi do everything they can to make things enjoyable. I am sure you noticed how knowledgeable Jarra is about Costa Rican environment and animals. We learn something new each time we visit. Hopefully you saw the fantastic Scarlet Macaws feeding off the almond trees on our property. We usually time our morning coffee for their early arrival each morning. They never fail to thrill us with their flying antics. As for the home away from home pets they will certainly get some extra treats when we see them next. Thanks again Jennifer

Our experience at Casa Amarilla was simply perfect!!! We found the peace we were looking for with the ocean for background. Any questions we had was answered quikly and absolutely nothing happened to disturb our vacation. A lot to visit around like Jaco, Carara national park, and the crocodile Safari jungle is on our top list of activities. Thanks again for sharing your little paradiseRecommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Beautiful Location - Fabulous House - Excellent Management! Six of us (3 couples) stayed at Casa Amarilla the week of Feb 9, 2012. Couldn't have asked for anything better! The location had easy access to any type of adventure. It was close enough to Jaco (hustle & bustle) but far enough away to enjoy the beauty of the real CR. The house came supplied with everything needed. Grocery shopping was 15min. away as was any restaurant. We did a few day trips but always made sure we were back for the beautiful sunset from our patio. Patri and Jarra made sure we had everything needed. Patri organized 3 outings for us - horseback riding & fishing with Gino & a great Valentine Dinner. You can walk down the beach to Tarcoles and have a real Tico breakfast! Other than that - a car is a must.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+.

Let me start with Patri, the property manager, is great! I really enjoyed my time visiting with her and she is a wealth of information on all things Costa Rica.We have been to Costa Rica multiple times so are familiar with some CR "issues".Other reviews are mostly true, but there are issues with the house and location that I wish I had been aware of when making this decision.Luckily, this wasn't a vacation so much as a business trip, otherwise I would be needing a vacation from this trip. It's true, the house is clean and tidy, the bedrooms are accommodating enough with air units, all of the basic needs are there, but some of the comforts are lacking, even down to the living area furniture. However, the bathrooms leave much to be desired. NO paper down the toilet, thus, a small trash can next to the commode to dispose of the paper.Another writer mentioned the small second bath (which is actually the "master bath"). It's VERY small-think RV.In both of the bathrooms there is glass block for the windows, so you are not able to open for ventilation. In fact, it is very hard to get any kind of cross breeze through the home due to the miniscule window openings. Even with the ceiling fans, this can make for a very hot, humid interior (and that's coming from a Florida native), even when there is a beautiful breeze outside. There are many cracked and broken tiles in the large shower in the main bath making it look run down.During our stay we lost water pressure completely and only had dripping water for 2 days.My husband was able to rig up the intake outside to rectify the problem until Patri was able to get someone out, but it was the needle on my haystack. No hot water to washer- think about that when you lie on the sheets and use the towels, which explains why I had to rewash our towels that stunk horribly upon first use. A previous reviewer mentioned the "lorries" and the constant noise caused by them.It was not an exaggeration, the trucks(semis) coming down the hill are directly overhead when they hit their air brakes. This is a constant, with exception of 4 hours in the middle of the night. It is a shame because the property is directly on the beach. The waves crashing sound so peaceful, except that every 3rd or 4th wave is accompanied by an airbrake overhead behind you.The house needs to have a little bit of money put into it to make it comfortable in addition to being funtional, but that probably won't happen until the land concession issue is solved.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, pet owners.

We (2 persons) stayed at Casa Amarilla for about 2 weeks in March 2012. The house has a great seaview and a very nice garden. Everything is clean and in good condition. Patri was always helpful and arranged everything we wanted. Elbi and Jarra keep everything clean and tidy. Although we both do not speak any Spanish we enjoyed our "talks" with Jarra. They even invited us to their home and we had a really nice dinner. We were very well looked after so that we could have a relaxing stay at Casa Amarilla. We would definitely come again. Only two things were a bit annoying, the lorries using their brakes (noisy) and the mosquitos in the evening. Dear Patri, Elbi and Jarra:Thank you for everything!!!! Some words for the German readers: Wir kommen aus Deutschland und haben den Aufenthalt sehr genossen. Wer Natur liebt und die Herzlichkeit der Menschen schätzt, wird sich sehr wohl fühlen.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Hola Dorothee y Sven! Thank you for submitting this very nice review. Wish we could have done something about the lorries and those pesky mosquitos. This was the first time in many years I can remember them bothering guests. We promise to try harder next time. You were both a delight to have here and we all, me, Elbi, Jarra and of course all your four legged friends hope to see you all back here again one day. Hope it is not too long away. Your new found friends in Costa Rica.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Amarilla for 3.5 weeks, after spending 2 weeks in Jaco. For most of the time we were 2 couples (in our 50's), but were 3 couples for a few of the days - even then we found the house and yard to be spacious and comfortable. We had a car to tour and were not looking for nightlife - so were happy with the 'away from the action' location. First, the house - it is well cared for and had everything we needed - lots of dishes, cutlery, pots, coffee pot, microwave, blender, wifi, outdoor grill, washing machine, clothesline, (and even enough laundry soap, charcoal briquettes & drinking water to get us started - thanks Patri!). The bedrooms were comfortable and we greatly appreciated the air conditioning. The ensuite bathroom was small, but it was nice to have a second bathroom. The outside area is what we really enjoyed - the yard is spacious, beautifully landscaped and well tended to (by Albi and Jarra). The pictures on the website don't do it justice! We looked forward to the daily visits by the scarlet macaws to feast on the almond trees in the yard We seldom missed having a drink (or two!) by the oceanside wall, as we enjoyed the sunsets and watched the fishermen head out for the evening. The pool is not large, but did the trick in cooling you down when needed. We can't comment on swimming conditions around the house because we opted to explore the coast and check out different beaches along the way. Patri (Property Manager) was very helpful and always available by either phone or email. She frequently dropped in (with her adorable dogs) just to make sure everything was going well, and anything she promised was always delivered quickly. We greatly enjoyed our visits with Jarra and finding out more about the area - his English was better than our Spanish, but often we would have to resort to charade-like gestures!! Loved having Freddie (cat) and Pinta (dog) come to visit. We had a rental car before arriving at Casa Amarilla because we intended on touring around, but given its location I would strongly suggest having a car. There are a few restaurants within walking distance, but no grocery stores and taxis are not in the immediate vicinity. Without a doubt we would not have enjoyed our stay nearly as much without a car. Hope to be back again!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Good Morning Marie & All! Thank you for the wonderful review and also for being such low maintance & easy going guests. You were all very pleasant to have with us at Casa Amarilla and hope it will not be the last time. Will certainly pass along your kind comments to Elbi and Jarra, they will be most appreciative. Also agree with your comments about the car. It does make the vacation a much more easy one. Again, we are all very happy that you enjoyed your time with us and hoping in the future to once again be gifted with your return. Regards your new amigos in CR!

I just stayed here with two friends and we could not have asked for a better situation. The house is much bigger than we expected and stocked with everything you need to make you feel at home in paradise. The beds were all very comfortable and really spacious rooms. There was only 3 of us, but you could easily fit 3-5 more people and still not feel like you're bumping into each other all the time. Patri was an absolute delight to deal with and was so extremely helpful. Patri recommended doing a tour with Gino and it was the highlight of our trip. Gino took us on his boat all day going from beach to beach for snorkeling, fishing, lobster diving, and hiking. It was amazing! The house is in a small town just north of Jaco and it has a very authentic Costs Rican feel to it (where Jaco on the other hand was very touristy and we didn't feel comfortable there.) Lots of fun restaurants nearby and large grocery store just minutes away. I would recommend this place to anyone that wants to visit this beautiful country!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My family of five spent a week at Casa Amarilla at the end of July and had a lovely time. The 3 cute bedrooms and two bathrooms gave us plenty of indoor space, while the outdoor patio area with small pool directly next to the beach provided us a view which is literally too pretty for words. The property manager, Patri, checked in on us once in a while to be sure everything was fine and to offer information if needed, and there was a nice man who took care of the pool each morning, as well as a woman who thoroughly swept the entire patio area each day. The patio area is also beautifully landscaped with all kinds of tropical foliage, and there are huge almond trees where scarlet macaws often came to feed -- what a cool experience to behold! All necessary cookware and dishes were available, and they even had a large tank of drinking water for house guests and laundry detergent to use in the laundry room -- thoughtful touches. I would recommend having a rental car if staying at this house as it gives you the freedom to travel to the nearby towns and restaurants, and perhaps check out the Crocodile Bridge ten driving minutes away or maybe Jaco, which was about 20+ minutes south (not a terribly worthy town to visit -- but lots of nice souvenir shops and some decent eateries to try). Also, the beach on which the house is located is made of rocks and seemingly best for looking at. Therefore having the refreshing little pool out back is a nice thing to have (especially with our 3 young children). The driveway heading down to the house is a bit harrowing and rugged, probably due to heavy rains and such, so a 4x4 helped out with that; but overall, Casa Amarilla provided us with a great Pacific coast stay, and did I mention the VIEWS??? Wow. A peaceful place to stay...Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: Hola Claudia, Ryan, Ayla, Arley & Sorin! Thank you for the glowing review and we truly do appreciate it. You and your family were very low maintenance, fit in wonderfully to the atmosphere, GRACIAS for loving and inviting in our dearly beloved older cat, Freddi and also our resident hound dog, Pinta. Your taking over the feeding was an especially loving gesture! We are very happy that you enjoyed your stay here at Casa Amarilla and that you embraced the Costa Rican experience. We agree with you full heartedly that our dirt road down from the highway does need some urgent attention and we are working on it, your comments are appreciated. We hope that one day in the future you and your family might come back to this area. Take care & regards from CR, Patricia, Jarra (Pool/Guard) & Santos (Maid & grounds person).

My husband and I stayed at Casa Amarilla the first 2 weeks of July 2011. The house was well equipped, very clean and the pool very refreshing. Also the house is close to many attractions (rain forest, national park, beach, volcanoes). The house and the neighborhood was very safe and the people around were nice to us. We were well informed by the house manager Patri, who is an exceptional person. She was making sure that we were not missing anything. We went for a boat excursion (upon the recommendation of Patri). The owner is Gino and his excursion is a typical Costa Rican experience. We sailed all day, visit a forest, we fish and we ate our catches for lunch on the beach. It was a great and unique experience which I would recommend to anyone. We would go back anytime !Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, pet owners, sightseeing.

I had the wonderful opportunity to vacation with 4 friends in Costa Rica at Casa Amarilla. It was a great house for us. Casa Amarilla provides a relaxing home for your vacation. The patio and backyard was prefect for resting and meals. The ocean sunset views are amazing and you are within walking distance of swimming beaches. Patri, house manager, is an amazing resource. Patri purshcased house supplies for us, arranged cleaning and pool services. She also arranged of our trips for us which included zipline and locals full day tour (fishing, snorkeling, boar tour, fresh lobster on a secluded beach, nature walk and a home cooked meal). Casa Amarilla is 15 minutes from a spectacular 5-hour round trip waterfall hike 20 minutes from full stocked grocery store 30 minutes from Jaco and tourist beaches and shops 30 minutes from zipline I enjoyed this vacation and this house.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Hola Carly, Chanda, Darcy, Natalie and Nicole! We are most appreciative of your glowing review and thank you for same. It is always satisfying to hear that our guests enjoyed themselves in our Village and that you all felt welcome with our way of life. Gino, also wanted me to say "Gracias" for your great endorsement of his "Tico Style Tour" and hopes you will come back again. All our staff, Jarra, Elbi and Santos also send their "Saludos." You were all so down to earth, easygoing and open to embracing the Costa Rican way of life. OH, the owners and staff at Outback Jack's also send their hellos. Until we meet again (hopefully), Saludos & Regards from Patri and All.

Six of us spent a week at Casa Amarilla and loved it. Most impressive were the sounds and sights of the Macaws eating from the Almond trees on the property the those adjacent to Casa Amarilla, the evening sunsets and the sound of the ocean waves. The Property Manager, Patri was absolutely wonderful. She was very attentive and checked on us every day to see if we needed anything. She set up wild life sight seeing tours for us and provided us with recommendations for good restaurants. The listing description was accurate regarding the location and the pictures accurarely reflect the rental's appearance and amenities. All three bedrooms are airconditioned and I think the description, notes airconditioners in two of the bedrooms. The house was very clean and the property well maintained. I do have a word of caution if you plan to visit Manuel Antonio National Park. We were "ripped off" by one of the Guides who charged us $30.00 per person when in fact, the set, established rate is $20.00 per person. We didn't know any better until Patri informed us we had been taken. She promptly filed a complaint with the Park's management. I would definitely recommend this property to a friend or relative. Like I said, we had a great time.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My wife and I along with 4 other friends spent 5 nights at the Casa Amarilla. The house is well maintained, clean, and has easy access to the main highway that leads to Jaco or San Jose, You will need a car. Very quiet and the view is great. Buy your fresh fish from the fishermen down the beach. 4 or 5 restaurants within in walking distance, 800 meters or so. Modern grocery store within 10km. Jaco is 17km south. This house is ideal if you are in Costa Rica to explore and want a comfortable home base to return to, Not for any one that wants to be near night life and activity. We enjoyed coming home to the peaceful sounds of the jungle and the waves lapping on the beach. The property is full of dozens and dozens of varieties of local plants. You will see and hear many types of birds and other creatures. Can't forget the resident cats and dogs that stop by for a visit. The pool is small but perfect for a refreshing dip when the humidity gets to you. Patri does a wonderful job of making you feel at home and was most accommodating. For the price, you can't go wrong. What a great vacation and a wonderful country. We can't wait to go back. Pura Vida! Charles and Ruth W.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, sightseeing.
