TRANI: The striking scenography of the sea that greets the visitor to Trani has an irresistible appeal. An unforgettable sequence of images unfold before the eyes as you travel through the area of the city's port and coast. The impact of the buildings on the panorama of the sea recalls, first of all, the importance of the institutions that in this scenography were able to represent themselves with previously unknown force, suddenly disengaging themselves from the fabric of the city to project themselves onto a universal consciousness: the Church, the State, the Law. Trani played an eminent role in the regional chess game of power and privilege starting in the Swabian era, in which Federico II made Trani his maritime advance post (the mighty castle on the sea is evidence of this), until the 1400's, a century of absolute splendour in which Trani was the most important maritime and mercantile centre on the lower Adriatic (it is the city that wrote the Maritime Statutes and was long supported by the city of Venice to which it was even “pledged“ at the end of the century). It then became, at the end of the 1500's, the seat of the Regia Udienza (Royal Juridical Seat) and, since then (and still today) it is the “juridical city” par excellence.
This is the sea of monuments, the sea of power. But taking a look today at Trani's port, glancing from left to right, two less monumental (but equally important for defining the more complex contemporary consciousness that make both tourists and residents love this city) realities stand out: the string of beautiful fishing boats to the left, with intense colours and evocative names, and the expanse of pleasure crafts to the right, a sign of a "lived" sea, of a functional and well-equipped harbour, of a city that still looks to the sea even without the burden of having to affirm and defend its supremacy: the string of beautiful fishing boats to the left, with intense colours and evocative names, and the xpanse of pleasure crafts to the right, a sign of a “lived” sea, of a functional and well-equipped harbour, of a city that still looks to the sea even without the burden of having to affirm and defend its supremacy. The Castle, Cathedral, Courthouse and also the early 1900's city park which recalls the civic and middle class characteristics that make up the cultural roots of the modern city, are all more clearly visible from the sea than from the land, as if the city still awaited visitors from the sea, arriving on boats or ships (and it is often true: many tourists in small or large yachts dock here to stock up on supplies or fuel, perhaps on their way to the Greek Islands, and instead of one day, they stay two or three and then, perhaps, decide to rent a house on the harbour . . .)
Trani, festive and joyous city par excellence, holds all of its festivals on the harbour. Religious festivals, yes, but also cheerful, swarms of people out for a stroll on summer evenings, band concerts in the lighted sound-box in Piazza Quercia, open-air concerts or shows – all against the backdrop of the sea outlined by the elegant stone belt of the parapets along the harbour and the docks. Street stalls, restaurants, coffee bars, merry-go-rounds facing the harbour, and the reflection of the lights that shimmer pearly on the smooth blocks of stones that pave the streets. The odour of fresh fish as the fishing boats come in and display their catch for the fast and very careful regular customers, to the surprise of the many tourists who are walking, again or for the first time, towards the theatrical Piazza della Cattedrale . . .
Arriving from the harbour, and from the side of the dock, the Cathedral offers its most beautiful facade, the retroabsidal face, which is closest to the sea spray and where its disproportional height seems the most impressive.

Why the Owner Chose Trani
TRANI: Trani enjoys an ideal geographic position (Puglia - Apulia) being at the centre of the north Bari inland & the Apulian coast. It has the unique quality of being a famous tourist centre renowned both for its rich art heritage & for its sea (lovely and clean). Trani's Cathedral is perhaps the most beautiful & famous building in Apulian Romanesque style. The splendid scenario of its setting has certainly contributed to this reputation: a marvellous large square directly overlooking the sea. The façade is orientated towards the lovely Swabian castle The Castle of Trani, while the apses tower over the charming little fishing port.Trani is encircled by archaeological situated cities & of remarkable historical & cultural importance: Bari (40 kilometres) with its Basilica of San Nicola, Barletta (13 Km), Andria (10 km), Bisceglie (8 km), Corato (10 km ), Ruvo (20 km), Bitonto (35 km), Terlizzi (30 Km), Molfetta (25 km) Castel del Monte (30km). The Il Frutteto apartment met up to all the Italian hospitality you hear about from friends who has traveled to Italy. We were greeted with a smile and a refrigerator filled with all kinds of amenities for our breakfast the next morning. On top of that the apartment was beautiful, spacious, clean, and had a back yard and beautiful front porch for our morning coffee. Trani is a great town filled with beautiful shops, cafe, and it is close to some of the best cheese farms in Puglia. Being conveniently located on the heel you are able to take day trips to anywhere you want in Puglia. Trani out of all of Puglia had the most beautiful scenery, a wonderful fish market near the castel, and the locals make you feel safe and welcome (if you look lost they will help you find a good place to eat too) On my next travel to Puglia, I will defiantly stay again at Il Frutteto.

The measure of a good landlord is how he solves minor problems, and Antonio is an excellent landlord. This apartment is centrally located and has two very nice gardens. There is good grocery shopping in the immediate area and it is close to both downtown and the free ways for daytrips. The apartment was clean and had good dishes and supplies

Siamo stati a Trani 1 settimana in 6 persone.

++++ we have spent a nice vacation in Trani. Trani is a miraculous town with atmosphere and charisma. The lodging was ideal as a starting point for excursions to the beach and in the surroundings. It is equipped with all technical refinements. It Combines comfort and a lot of Space - in- and outdoors. (For self-caterers some kitchens equipment could be complemented.) Beach fans or families with small children must know that a car is necessary. Against this not for the things of the everyday need (e.g.: Weekly market, supermarket, baker, butcher, pizza, restaurant, etc.). All These are in immediate neighborhood. We have well liked it! ++++
Owner response:Thank you and Arrivederci!!

The apartment was better than described. It was airy and comfortable with lovely outdoor sitting and dining spaces in front and in back of the apartment. It was very well equipped with all the staples and a lovely welcome basket. The secured parking was very convenient. The apartment was clean, well furnished and well maintained Markets for bread, meat, fish, and groceries were within a short walking distance. The main part of Trani with waterfront dining and upscale shops was a bit of a hike, but doable. There were many excellent restaurants in the main part of Trani. There were some small pizzarias close to the apartment. Access in and out of town by car was convenient. I would recommend it to friends and family.

We so enjoyed a recent visit--our first--to Trani, a lovely port and fishing village on the Adriatic. We were two couples, and fortunate to stay in Antonio's apartment. Although located in an apartment complex in a relatively new residential area and not quaintly situated along the waterfront, his apartment has the advantages of being exceptionally clean, well-maintained (everything worked) , well-equipped kitchen stocked with basic foods, coffee, teas, fresh milk, yogurt and juice, very comfortable with two bedrooms and two bathrooms and easy, safe parking. The apartment is located on the ground floor and offers landscaped garden areas with seating (morning coffee!) and privacy. A big plus (we have rented houses in various countries) was the efficiency, promptness, courtesy and welcome we encountered from Antonio and family. He encouraged us to call him for any reason (we did have one minor problem with lost glasses which he and his brother graciously helped solve), left very useful guidebooks to the region in English and Italian...along with the gift of some local wines which we quite enjoyed. Trani is not a particularly popular tourist spot but it should be for the spectacular seafood in town (terrific restaurants) and surrounding villages. Don't miss a walk to admire the beauty of the castle and cathedral which magically glow in the light of the setting sun. Trani and Antonio's apartment were a treat!
Owner response:Thank you Nancy!!

We had many options of where to stay this time of the year, but decided to stay here based on all the nice reviews. It was a business/pleasure holiday, so we had to work some. The apartment had a work desk and computer monitor, and the high speed internet was fast and reliable. The location was good, although I would have liked to have been closer to the beach. As everyone mentioned, Antonio is a very nice and accommodating host. Loved the small coffee shop nearby and pizzeria. Were pleasantly surprised with an open air market on Tuesday morning. We got some GREAT deals and had fun browsing through all the vendors tents. Everything worked well in the apartment and we even washed clothes a few times. The only complaint was the bed...it was hard for our taste. We placed some extra comforters on it to make it a bit more tolerable. While some may like a firmer bed, Antonio might do well to get some sort of extra layer for those who want to soften it a bit. If going back to Trani, we would definitely consider this place again.
Owner response:Thank you John !! Arrivederci
