Experience this beautiful university town founded by the Romans. It has immense charm, outstanding historic architecture, great food, hearty wine, bustling markets, sunny year-round weather, and an international cosmopolitan flavor.
It is quite accessible to Avignon (an hour), Nimes (an hour and a quarter), Arles (50 mminutes), Marseille (35 minutes), and Mediterranean beaches (35 minutes), and just a few minutes more to the Cote d'Azur. In opinion polls, it has more than once been voted on by French people as the town they would most like to live in.
The property is located in one of the loveliest areas of Aix, but only two miles from the center of town in a calm semi-country setting with large trees and beautiful Provencal vegetation. One can walk to the Cours Mirabeau (the Champs Elysees of Aix) in 35 minutes, as it is only 2 miles away or else there is frequent bus service only 700 meters from the property.
The house is owner occupied part of the year and is therefore very well equipped and maintained. It is charming and well-furnished with 17th, 18th, and 19th century doors throughout. There is a combination living/dining room, an office, and a fully-equipped kitchen as well as two double bedrooms and a sleeping loft for two people overlooking the living room. In the bathroom are bath and shower facilities and the toilet is separate.
A large terrace and garden surround the house which is located on a hill, and one climbs steps to reach it. The view from the terrace is lovely. Off-street parking is available.
There is an extensive library with books for all tastes as well as a VCR- DVD player with a selection of English language films.

House and garden more spacious than photos suggest. Most agreeable house to stay in especially eating outside at night watching the light change. Location is in elegant hillside area beyond town but just within walking distance - bus half way down hill usefully available to get into centre (fare 1.10). If driving into Aix, park outside/above the ring road and walk. Two supermarkets and boulangerie not far away half way down road into town. Fans in every room. Difficult to find house especially at night when you should approach via centre-ville not round the back. Aix smaller than maps suggest. Try bathing places just west of Marseille at Niolon, La Redonde etc. Different. Martigues very dull. Carry le Rouet pleasant. Bring a kettle. Some midgies. Few shops open on Sunday.
