Aix en Provence, founded by the Romans because of its thermal springs, is a beautiful university town a half hour north of Marseille and an hour and a half west of Cannes. In opinion polls it has more than once been voted on by French people as the town they would most like to live in.
It has immense charm, outstanding historic architecture, wonderful sunny weather, lively markets, great foods (hundreds of restaurants), hearty wine, and a large international community (in particular there is an Anglo-American club with over 600 members to help get you started).
The apartment is in a gate house on a property with beautiful Provencal vegetation located in one of the loveliest areas of Aix in a calm, country setting only two miles from the center of town (easy walking distance). The gate house consists of two separate units with separate entrances, one upstairs on one side of the house and the other downstairs on the other side. The guests do not meet unless they desire to.
The apartment is spacious, tastefully furnished, well-insulated with a marble bathroom, Italian tile throughout, overhead beams, and large, built-in cupboards. One bedroom contains a queen-size bed, and the other one has a double-size bed with a skylight and roof that slopes down to 1.35 meters at the far end of the room. There is a full bath (skylight), combination living/dining room with built-in kitchen area (skylight), and a charming adjoining terrace.
The apartment is light and bright, and was recently redone. |
