Location: Aix en Provence, Aix en Provence Area, Provence, France, Europe (Lovely Country Home only 2 miles from Center of Aix)
Accommodations: House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths (Sleeps 6)
Aix en Provence was founded by the Romans, and has ever since been a crossroads for those traveling from Italy to Spain and from the Cote d'Azur to Paris.
Enjoy the opportunity to stroll up and down the Cours Mirabeau, to sip a coffee in a sidewalk cafe while admiring the 17th and 18th century buildings lining the streets, to rub shoulders with the exuberant students, to shop in one of the liveliest markets in Provence, to sample the wonderful cuisine in some of the hundreds of restaurants in the city, or to taste the wine in certain of the wine-producing properties in the region.
Then return to the house and sit in the shade of a tall fig tree on the front terrace while enjoying a glass of local wine and a plate of cheese and pate. Or sunbathe in the back garden. The house is spacious, tastefully furnished, well-insulated with marble bathrooms, Italian tile throughout, overhead beams, and large built-in cupboards.
It has three roomy bedrooms, one with two single beds, one with a queen-size bed, and the other one with a double bed. There are two bathrooms, one of them en suite. The two larger bedrooms have French doors opening on to the back garden. The living room opens onto the dining room with an adjoining kitchen, both of which have French doors leading to the front terrace. It is light and bright and was recently completely redone. The environment is lovely.
The owner speaks both French and English, and can provide additional information.

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 1976
I am an American-born lady originally from Pennsylvania, but I have spent well over half my life in France, several years in Paris but most in Provence. I first came to Aix at the age of 19 on my junior year abroad. Within an hour of my arrival, I was euphoric, totally in love with the place. The town and surroundings are beautiful with great weather most of the year (300 days of sunshine). It has lovely medieval, 17th, and 18th century architecture giving it a historic dimension of which one is always conscious. And at the same time it possesses a large student population making it a lively place for young people. I am a recently retired university English teacher having spent most of my career at the university here in Aix. I have two French sons, one of whom lives in Aix and the other one in San Diego. We are a bi-cultural family and love both countries.
Why the Owner Chose Aix en Provence
Listings #5958 and #5956 concern the spacious gate house on the property. I occupy the main house (listing #5952) most of the year, but spend part of the winter in Florida during which I rent it out at a discount. The property is located in one of the loveliest neighborhoods in the town, and the location is one of the best features. It is in a quiet, semi-country area with beautiful, Provencal vegetation, but only 2 miles from the Cours Mirabeau, which is the Champs Elysees of Aix and one of the most famous boulevards in France.
The Unique Benefits of this House
The property is ideal for families or for several people traveling together, who have different preferenes and needs but only one car. One can walk into town in a half hour or else take the bus (frequent service at about 700 meters from the property). Early risers can go into town early and have breakfast in an outdoor cafe and visit the market, and those who prefer to sleep late can join them later for lunch. Those who seek the bustle of the town have immediate and frequest access, whereas others who prefer sitting peacefully on the terrace under the fig tree and sipping wine can do so when they wish. It allows for flexibility.
PLease note that there is a wonderful discount for those who stay 2 weeks or longer The first week costs 1400 euros, two weeks cost 2200 (1100 per week), and the total for four weeks is 3500 euros (875 euros a week as opposed to 1400). And the long-term, low season rate (minimum 6 months) is only 1900 per month (475 euros per week).

Dear Kathleen; We enjoyed the house, it suited our needs nicely. Did have trouble finding it, a little tricky around Aix in general, was dark when we arrived, we were hungry, then Voila? here is Brad home right behind us and took the girls into town for food for us. We were most grateful. The setting of your home is lovely, I'm sure it has many tales to tell. I was quite peaceful at the little table under the fig tree, and made that space my own. Thank you for allowing Amy the final day there, as it was not planned ahead of time but made it nice for her plans. Your son was very gracious. Thank you again Kathleen, Terry Cotterell and Paul Crossfield
