Beach, Harbor, Boardwalk - the Sweet Retreat House!
- Minimum stay:Contact owner

- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
This beach house is real gem tucked away in a very private cul de sac accessing the Yacht harbor, and just a few short blocks to Twin Lakes or thru the harbor to be at Seabright Beach.Only 5 houses away from the Harbor! On weekends the free "Water Taxi" picks you up and takes you across to Seabright Beach, and will also drop you off at "The Crows Nest"!!
Once parked in the driveway, take in the luscious sea air, unwind and enjoy the ambiance. Our location and huge lot is the envy of the locals! The huge fenced backyard provides all the room and peace of mind parents need for their children to romp and play, and couples can enjoy the privacy.
If you are planning a trip to Santa Cruz, and are looking for a very private retreat- a few short blocks away from the density of beachfront- send us an e-mail for more details. It's a great find!!!Sweet quiet neighborhood.Improvements this year include new kitchen and flooring and more landscaping.
It's come to my attention that both google and yahoo have mapped it incorrectly!!-Mello Lane is a short block ending w/ a cul de sac. The Yacht Harbor staircase entrance at the end.It should show blue water at the end of Mello. Also our home is not on the corner-it is the 3rd from the corner on the left side.
The beach house is w/in walking distance of both Twin Lakes and Seabright beaches. It's a 5 minute drive to downtown for shopping, theatres and more great restaurants.Approx 3- 5 minutes to Capitola for their beaches, shopping, food and fun in the sun.
If you've been to New Orleans,we are what is called "a good house"-meaning it's not the Hilton, but comfortable with an AMAZING location-only legitimate inquiries please..........

My family and I stayed at this house for a week this summer. We really enjoyed our visit here! This quaint house is in a great location, tucked in a little dead end street, it’s far away from the tourist crowds but still a quick drive or walk to some great beaches, restaurants and parks. We found the owner’s advice on the local beaches and restaurants extremely helpful. Best of all, if you have children this house is a block away from a great little park (see pictures). My kids loved being able to walk over the park every day! We would definitely recommend this house for a fun family visit to Santa Cruz.Recommended for: Families with young children.
Owner response: This has been our sixth summer, and as usual we've had a great sold out summer and offer a great bargain in our tough economy. We make improvements every year and the fire pit with large boulders to sit on has been a big hit w/ everyone.Because of the cul de sac on our street, traffic is minimal and in the summer that means alot of privacy. The entrance to the harbor (with the photos of the boats) allows you to get into the harbor and across to Seabright Beach on foot or by bicycle.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2005
About the owner: We have lived in California all our lives and have 3 children.
Why the Owner Chose Santa Cruz:
We rented in the area, each summer, for 12 years before purchasing our property. We tried out all the neighborhoods, including many oceanfront houses. Our experience was that oceanfront has it's perks, but it is very congested and noisy. The lots are very small, and require parking permits, not to mention expensive. We found an amazing spot! Mello Lane is tucked away, far from the madding crowd and after 8 p.m. you can hear a pin drop! Yet it's 5 blocks from the beach. It has a harbor access that none of the surrounding blocks have.We have made many improvements and when workmen arrive-who have lived in the area for most of their lives-they have commented that they didn't even know our block existed! It was named for John Mello who owned all the land for several blocks, before the harbor was created. It was a nature preserve and we have photos in our home of how it looked back then.It was divided into lots in the early 1930's-that's why the lots are so large. The house sits back away from the street and the backyard is huge by Santa Cruz standards.Mello Lane is only about 8 or 9 houses long, and then ends. There is a short walkway to the Harbor entrance stairs-so you are looking at all the boats and the bridge going toward the Boardwalk and Downtown.Location Location Location!!!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
I stated it in the above paragraph. We also enjoy helping our guests plan their activities, providing a concierge service!
