My husband and I celebrated his birthday in April here on the Pine River. We had a wonderful time despite the crazy Michigan weather. The house is very roomy and well-maintained as shown in the photos. We plan to return with our kids and grandkids this August to fully enjoy the river which is right outside the front windows and just off the deck - what a beautiful view. During our stay, we were fortunate enough to see a bald eagle fly by and watch many ducks cruising down the river.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, girls getaway.
Owner response: My husband and I appreciate the kind words. We are thankful to be able to share a small piece of northern Michigan and the Pine River with "staycationers"!!

Great view of the Pine River, very accomodating hosts, and adequately furnished home. If you are looking to "get away hide out" from everything, this is a great place to go. We were told that AT&T is the only cell service in the area, so no internet, cell phones, or TV for us...which was perfect. Also a great location for trail access and hiking.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

“Had a great 2 days paddling the Pine. Great sunshine, campfire, cozy bed, and beautiful scenery. Most of all I enjoyed the company and laughter with my sister, Carolyn. We’re planning our next adventure!”Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

“Beautiful, spacious home inside and out! We are sad to be leaving. We enjoyed watching the closing day ceremonies of the Summer Olympics on our first night and then spent the rest of the week exploring the area or relaxing here: went to Manistee for a day trip; went to Frederik Meijer Sculpture Garden in Grand Rapids, and went to the Grand Rapids Whitecaps vs. Great Lakes Loons minor baseball game; took a 2-hour canoe trip and also spent some innertube time on the Pine River; read books and ate breakfast on the deck and watched the river go by; went into town (Luther) to check email at the library and to mail some postcards; wandered in the cemetrary and admired the military service of so many residents of Luther; hiked the Silver Creek Trail. Loved watching the river flow by and enjoyed waving to people as they paddled along. Thank you Mark, for your great teaching to make sure we were ready to canoe down the river—your quiz really helped jus and we put every one of your tips into action. The one that helped the most (over & over) was sticking the paddle in and pulling the water towards me when trying to avoid an obstruction! Thanks for a great week!”Did you find this review helpful? “We had a great time here. Monday we went sightseeing up the coast of Lake Michigan, Tuesday we spent the day on Mackinac Island, Wednesday we hiked the Silver Creek Trail, and Thursday we went for a four hour canoe trip down the Pine River. Each night we returned to the peace and quiet of this beautiful home. Jeff finally caught a few fish our last night here. Thanks Annie for the fishing tips – it makes for a happier Jeff.”Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2000
About the owner: Hi, I'm Val. My husband, Mark, and I grew up in Cadillac. We have 2 children, Annie and Jacob. We home-schooled Annie thru 12th grade and Jacob thru 4th grade. Jacob graduated from Heritage Christian School. Annie recently graduated from Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, and is teaching part time in Holland. Annie is married to Aaron, they have a baby and live in Holland. Mark, who has a passion for the Pine River and loves to paddle, began a canoe livery service on the Pine River in 1971. I worked summers for Mark for several years while I was attending college. I obtained my teaching certificate and a B.S. Degree. Mark and I consider it a blessing to be able to live in Northern Michigan, and make a living doing what we enjoy.
Why the Owner Chose Cadillac:
We built 2 homes on the Pine River. We wanted to sell one, however, until a buyer comes along we are renting it as the Pine River Vacation Rental. We have enjoyed the many guests we have hosted there and consider many our friends, and look forward to their return each year.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The location of the Pine River Vacation Rental is surrounded by state and federal public land. Things to do 'out-the-back-door' would include: paddling, fishing, swimming, hiking (or) x-country skiing the marked and maintained trail nearby, snowmobiling, hunting, outdoor grilling and picnicking next to the river, and relaxing on the spacious deck(s). Up the road a 1/2 mile is the snowmobile and ORV trail system. Eight miles north is Caberfae Peaks Ski Area. 55 miles north is Traverse city, 45 miles west is Lake Michigan.
