Oxford house description

2015 Double Decker: The MAIN HOUSE is available for Double Decker weekend, April 24 - 25, 2015.

*** Located in the Historic District
*** Short walk to the Grove, 3 blocks from the Square
*** Rent Main House (sleeps 8) or Cottage (sleeps 4)
*** Built in 1939, remodeled in 2014

Just a few blocks from restaurants, shopping and nightlife, the Walkington House and Cottage is the perfect retreat for any occasion. Located in the Historic District, three blocks from the Oxford Square, the Walkington House and Cottage is available together or separate. Nestled on a half-acre lot, you'll enjoy all the Southern charm this updated and restored 1930's three-bedroom home and one-bedroom guest cottage has to offer.

The Walkington House:
The 3-bedroom main house offers off-street parking and sleeps up to eight. The Walkington House is well appointed with original wood floors, fireplace, formal dining room, washer and dryer, dishwasher, all-new furniture and mattresses, LCD TVs, large front veranda, Queen-size sleeper sofa, and a shared screened rear porch.

The Cottage:
The 1-bedroom Cottage has a separate and private entrance with off-street parking. It sleeps up to four, and features old heart pine wood floors in the kitchen, fireplace, LCD TV, 12’ x 20’ wood deck for entertaining, Queen-size sleeper sofa and shared screened side porch.

The Walkington House and Cottage have no common walls, as they are completely separate houses. The only common area shared is a lovely screened porch.

Make the Walkington House and Cottage your Rebel sports headquarters with a short 10-minute walk to Ole Miss ballgames. Plus you're only one block from Rowan Oak, William Faulkner’s historic home. If you love nature, you will enjoy the walk through Bailey’s Woods Trail that links Rowan Oak, to Vaught–Hemingway Stadium, Tad Smith Coliseum and Swayze Field.

We hope you enjoy your upcoming visit to Oxford, and we hope you choose the Walkington House & Cottage for your Oxford stay. If there is anything we can do to make your stay more memorable, please don't hesitate to ask. We love helping celebrate special occasions, and helping coordinate a variety of services for our out of town guests.

Owner info

Year Purchased: 2013

About the owner: Originally from Jackson, Mississippi, I grew up spending a lot of time in Oxford visiting family and have always loved the town. After finishing undergrad, I moved to Nashville, Tennessee for seven years. In 1998, I moved to San Diego, California to earn my master's degree. I have authored a couple of books, hundreds of magazine/newspaper articles and currently I am writing a novel. Having a baby along with the death of my mother two years ago changed my life. I realized the greatest gift that I can ever give my daughter is a Southern upbringing/culture. Hence, I am coming back home to Mississippi, and more specifically to my father's hometown of Oxford. Luckily, my California surfer-dude husband loves cornbread, sweet iced tea, fried chicken, pecan pie, and sittin' on our porch swing!

Why the Owner Chose Oxford:
Originally I wanted to buy the house in which my father was raised. He was born in a little house on Van Buren Avenue, but not so long ago it was torn down. New condos were built in its place. I bought this house to once again have roots in Oxford.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
I fell in love with this home because of its charm and location. It sits on half an acre in the heart of Oxford's Historic District. You can walk everywhere -- one block to Rowan Oak, four blocks to the Square and 10 minutes to the Grove or a ballgame. It also offers flexibility in living spaces. The main house is separated from the cottage by a screened porch. There are no common walls and both houses have privacy with outdoor living spaces too. There's plenty of off-street parking for both the main house and the cottage which is a big bonus on ballgame weekends.
