Comfortable place in a great location
Comfortable place in a great location
We spend five great days in Luquillo. The fourth-floor condo is comfortable and very well-furnished. Spent a lot of time on thje large balcony overlooking the Atlantic, enjoying the sound of the surf and the ocean breezes. Luquillo is a charming town with a pleasant town square just a block south of the condo. The immediate neighborhood is somewhat run-down, but not dangerous -- and the parking was secure. Dinner at Pasta y Pueblo a block west on our last night in Luquillo was a special treat.

The property was exactly as advertised. The pictures you see online are identical to the condo unit. We appreciated the gated community, especially because this was not a resort area. We had six adults in our group, so the condo fit our needs as it had 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. In addition, it was very handy to have a washer and dryer. The kitchen was fairly well-equipped and met our needs. Although, we usually ate out for dinner. Sitting on the balcony in the morning was very peaceful and relaxing. The beach right outside the condo was great for surfing, sunning and playing in the sand. Having snorkeling equipment, boogie boards, beach chairs and beach towels in the condo was a plus. A swimming beach is within walking distance and is recommended for families with smaller children. You can't go wrong with the restaurants nearby. Pasta y Pueblo was fantastic (a short block away). Guava, right next door, was also very good. We also ate at the Brass Cactus and Lolita's. Every restaurant we ate at was great! If you go swimming at Luquillo Beach, be sure to eat at the kiosks-- very good local food. If you need supplies, we recommend driving a short distance to Fajardo and going to WalMart or Ralph's. We highly recommend the following activites: Ziplining in El Yunque (Yunke Zipline), hiking in the rainforest and swimming in the waterfalls--all free, Bioluminescent Bay kayaking and mini boat/snorkeling tours (Miniboat Adventures in Fajardo), and a catamaran snorkeling tour (East Island Excursions in Fajardo). Fred Concepcion was easy to work with and answered all of our many questions. Mr. Cruz was very helpful onsite and did a great job giving us a tour of the condo and overview of the area when we first arrived. We would highly recommend this property for others searching for a less touristy, more authentic stay in the area. Very reasonably priced, too!

Everything we needed and more!
Everything we needed and more!
Had a great time in this condo, which is well priced for what's included. Four of us made great use of all the thoughtful extras that we would have purchased if they weren't already provided (like a full-sized cooler with wheels & snorkeling gear for three). We were worried it might be hot in the living room (AC in bedrooms only) but when the patio door and kitchen windows are open a great cross breeze kept it mostly comfortable, even in the heat of July/August. Owner was easy to work with and his caretaker lives next door to the condo so if anything does go wrong (it didn't for us) you can reach him quickly. Everything was exactly as described and shown on the video tour so no surprises. As mentioned in other reviews, the neighborhood is not picture perfect but having traveled in South America, Latin American and the Caribbean I would say that the neighborhood is "normal". If you want a resort atmosphere this won't be your place. But if you want comfortable and "real" Puerto Rico this will do just fine. We ate at the local eateries (all good) and shopped at Amigo, which left a little to be desired. Little things like sour cream were not to be found there. Ralph's or Wal-Mart have everything though and are only another couple minutes away. The guys played golf at Berwind in Rio Grande. The rental clubs were disappointing, but the price was right at $50 per person cart, green fees & club rental. Our favorites were the rain forest, the bio-luminescent bay, snorkeling near the condo's beach "point" and just chillin on the patio with a cold drink and great people.

Gracias Fred!!!!!!! Highly recommend!!! My family and I had a great vacation at the condo. Perfect location!!! We have a 1 year old and a 5 month old baby and we had a blast. The views are breath taking just incredible!! The locals in town are very friendly, location is perfect because its close to everything and Mr. Joaquim was very helpful. This Condo is great for families. We look foward to having our next family vacation there again.

Enjoyable condo on a surfer beach
Enjoyable condo on a surfer beach
Well maintained condo as advertised. Parking lot is gated. Neighborhood is poor but we had no issues. The condo has ocean views, is not on the ground floor and does have WiFi. Can be a little noisy on the weekends, close your bathroom doors. You will need a car at this location. Be careful backing out of the parking space - it is tricky and the gate closes quickly after opening. The local contact for the condo was very helpful. San Juan is 45 minutes on a good day, rain forest is about 20 minutes and bioluminescent bay by kayak in Fajardo is 30 minutes. We used Pure Adventure for the bio bay tour and had a very good time - take the early tour so you can paddle in with some light ($45). Rain forest was good but you do not need to stop at the visitor center which is $4 per person. Three stops in the rain forest are the Yokahu tower, La Coca falls (on the road), and La Mina Falls - 40 min one way hike which is moderate. Take the Big Tree Trail both in an out as the easiest. Close to the condo is a McDonalds, Subway, Walgreens and a grocery store behind the Walgreens called Amigo. The grocery store appears affiliated with Walmart and has all the familiar brands and takes credit cards and has an ATM. The restaurants in the area are very good, especially the seafood. All take credit cards unless noted. Our preferred ones from best to good: 1) Pasta y Pueblo - just west of the condo near the street sculpture this is a small hole in the wall that is sometimes open. It takes cash only ($25-$30/person) and you may have a long wait - go early. 2) Boardriders - on the beach street just east of the condo. Have the fish tacos (Mahi). 3) Aibonito Grill - Kiosko # 21 - in the kiosks west of Luquillo. 4) Guava's - next to Boardriders. A little over priced. Second floor quieter on the weekend but sit next to an open window. 5) King Seafood - near the 193 exit off 3 just before you get to the ball field. Food was okay - no real atmosphere and a little pricey. Would probably skip and re-visit one of the first four. Most people spoke some English but it is obviously not the main language. Beware the drivers in Puerto Rico - stoplights are a suggestion and the narrow streets make it a challenge. You will find you must drive aggressively. One ways may or may not be marked. There are toll roads and the rental cars will come with an electronic pass ($1.95 a day). If you are driving to San Juan more than once Rt 66 it is worth the cost. You can avoid tolls but can mean long delays

Thank you, Fred! We had a fabulous time with our friends in your condo. The location is superb - the surfer beach just off the deck, the Blue Flag Beach, the rainforest, Old San Juan.... We also enjoyed a snorkeling trip just minutes east. This is a friendly town and we were particularly fond of Pasta and Pueblo – fabulous casual restaurant. Also, Senor Cruz was an excellent host. We look forward to our next visit to your condo. Warmest regards, Linda and Eric Asheville, NC

Owner response: I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay! Hope to have you stay with us again next time you visit our beautiful island. Best Regards, Fred Concepcion
Wonderful views from this nicely decorated condo overlooking beautiful beaches. We found this condo location perfect for relaxing on the beach, visiting the rain forest, and close to the marina for island hopping. All types of dining within walking distance that is recommended. It couldn't have been better. Owner was very easy to work with. I would recommend this property.

While the condo was clean and spacious, the condo property was disappointing. It is surrounded by cement walls with barbed wire, and the pool is in desperate need of repair. We did not use the pool at all. Also the neighborhood was very sketchy with a lot of run down or abandoned houses. The beach in front of the resort while nice to look at from the balcony was not useable unless you are an experienced surfer. I would definitely not recommend this property to families with small children like ours.

Wow, Wow, Wow, is how I summarize my experience and time spent in Luquillo. The condo was PERFECT, spacious, bright, and clean. My family had the best time, and look forward to returning soon. Please make sure you watch a sunrise, or two; so amazing! The people were so nice, and friendly, and the local food is delicious ;)

An amazing apartment. Right on the beach at La Pared; walk through the gate and you’re ready to paddle to the line-up. Ideal for shortboarders and body boarders. A bit too dumpy for anything over 8 ft.The apartment is equipped with everything you could think of (except for a phone, which may actually be a blessing). Each of the three tastefully decorated bedrooms is air-conditioned. Also, there are boogie boards and scuba masks for everyone to use! The balcony is a perfect perch for a cup of coffee, watching the sunrise (admittedly not a conventional time for most holidaymakers), look at the waves and decide which approach to take for the paddle. The town is in an ideal location- a short drive takes you to San Juan, El Yunque, and Fajardo, but you aren’t constantly surrounded by tourists. The apartment is not WiFi equipped. However, the Guava restaurant, right next door, is. Honorable people can drop in for a drink or dinner, and bring the laptop with them. However, many people (like myself) choose to bring their laptops with them in the evening, and sit on La Pared, checking their email whilst feeling the ocean breeze. By far, the best thing about Luquillo is its people. Although the town itself looks a bit run-down, it can take pride in the friendliness of its locals. The people in the supermarket, bakery, surf shop and in the line-up could not be more hospitable. Also, one thing my daughters enjoyed immensely is the color of the houses- unlike in the rest of the world where colors are neutral, Luquillo knows no bounds- across from the apartment there is a multitude of colored houses- bright blue, pink, purple, and green! In short – highly recommended!
