Year Purchased: 1960
About the owner: Tom and Laurie Shade, world travelers and long distance sailors (sailing to 35 countries), decided to replace the prior mobile home with an prow front A-frame home and added a 1 bedroom apartment in the walk out basement. Enjoy meeting new people and socializing.
Why the Owner Chose Coupeville: My parents bought this property to retire on because of the water views, community beach, the central location and the surrounding forest (3.2 acres). We inherited the property that had a mobile home on it in 1986 and rented it out while we fulfilled our dream of traveling and long distance sailing. In 2013 we began our new dream of building a custom home here. We love the quiet neighborhood and the privacy the lot offers. There is ample room for parking and room for a boat with trailer. There is also the wildlife, we have three new fawns this year that graze with their mothers in the yard, this is truly a special place.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment: What we love about the property is the lush forest and the beach with water views, and the walks. We also love our location with central location to sight seeing venues, restaurants and shopping. You will enjoy your lovely and roomy apartment that is nicely furnished. The owner loves to cook so there is a new range and dishwasher to make meal preparation a joy in the well equipped kitchen. Or you might just like to take some hot dogs or burgers to the beach to enjoy the with sunset and your fire. If you are not in the mood to cook pick up a pizza or sandwich at the Pizza Factory and a movie at the Red Box in front of the Red Apple market for a relaxing evening. There is a 48' shower with seat in the very roomy bathroom, washer and dryer. Nearby trails, two beach areas for walking and shellfish gathering, crabbing off the beach, community boat launch, wild animals (deer, rabbits, and raccoon's, bird watching (bald eagles), and the beautiful trees. We are in close proximity to the South part of Whidbey to explore Langley, Freeland and Greenbank. Then to the North Oak Harbor, Deception Pass State park, Cornet Bay, the towns on the mainland of Anacortes and LaConnor. Also, a beautiful ferry ride away to the Town of Port Townsend where you will find another State Park of Fort Worden to explore, in addition to the town of old Victorian homes and numerous restaurants to satisfy your hunger. In addition to this there is Coupeville with numerous fairs, Saturday farmers market, antiquing and thrifting, the old Warf, and numerous restaurants to try. Or make a trip to the Red Apple market and buy some seafood and a bottle of wine to end a day of pleasant exploring.
