Location: Springfield, Vermont, USA (Five Minutes Off Interstate 91 in Springfield, Vermont)

Accommodations:  Restored Grist Mill, 3 Bedrooms + Den, 3 Baths (Sleeps 6-8)

The Grist Mill is a restored historic mill, circa 1850, located
on the 72 acre General Lewis R. Morris estate in Springfield,
Vermont. General Morris was an officer in the Continental Army
during the Revolutionary War and became Vermont's first Congressman after the State was admitted to the Union in 1791. The main house and barn are on the National Register of Historic Places. The estate is now a fully operational Christmas tree plantation.

The farm is situated on the banks of the Connecticut River, just 5
minutes off Interstate 91. Our private dock is within a few hundred feet of the Mill. We provide a canoe, a rowboat and several tubes for fishing and frolicking on the river.

For those of you who might prefer not to swim with the fishes, we have a large in ground pool which we usually open in late June. Before then, in Vermont, only the beavers and bears do any swimming.

There is very little traffic on the river road and only slightly more on nearby Route 5, so cycling is safe for young and old. We have an assortment of elderly bicycles you can use if you choose not to bring your own. Excellent hiking is available almost at your door.

The Mill has three bedrooms, three baths and about 1800 feet of
floor space.

The first floor features a living room with exposed beams, wood floors, a fireplace, a stereo system, a DVD player, a VCR and satellite TV. In addition, this floor has a full bath.
The kitchen provides ample workspace and all the utensils needed for family meal pre-paration. In addition to a full size range the kitchen is equipped with a toaster oven, microwave, a washer-dryer and several other small appliances. The dining table comfortably seats ten people. Double French doors lead to a small deck and a private furnished patio with an outdoor grill..

A winding staircase leads to the second floor. The master bedroom has a queen size bed and a full bath. A second double bedroom and another full bath are also located on this floor. Both bedrooms have views of the farm and river.

The third floor includes a walk through area with a double sleep sofa and a full bedroom with twin beds.

Nearby ski areas include Okemo, Ascutney, Magic, Stratton, Bromley, Sunapee, Suicide Six, and Killington which are all within an hour's drive.

FOR THE COMFORT OF OUR FUTURE GUESTS, WE DO NOT PERMIT SMOKING IN THIS FACILITY.

SMALL PETS ARE WELCOME BUT THERE IS A $50.00 SPECIAL CLEANING FEE

    • October 13, 2007, my husbnd and I took both sets of our parents and our 2 dogs on vacation. We stayed in the grist mill and found it to be very lovely and quaint. The area is beautiful with the mountains and Christmas trees. Our host was very understanding when we told we had to leave earlier than planned due to an illness in our family. At the time she was dealing with the same, but went out of her way to bring her minister to us to pray for our relative. We would love to go back and spend more time in this area.

    • My humans and I spent a wonderful week in late August this year in the Grist Mill house. The house was perfect and very accomodating to both four-legged and two-legged houseguests. I spent countless hours frolicking with my brother and his friend through the many beautiful and grassy acres of the farm. I enjoyed following the chickens around and listening to the roosters crowing. I relaxed by the fabulous in-ground pool while my humans swam. While I only went down to the river a couple of times, my family spent a lot of hours down on the dock and tubing on the water. The shade trees and soft grass were a delight and I had many blissful naps outdoors. Sandra and Peter offered my mom and dad a tour of their incredible home and they were always so nice and obliging. It was my best vacation ever and my humans are planning another vacation there next year. I hope it's for two weeks this time.

    • We stayed in the grist mill for a week with four children ,two adults and a very cute dog(She made us say that). We had a wonderful time. The mill and farm enviroment provided us with fun, restful and unique place to stay. It was nice that many of the things you usually must pack were provided by our host.We used the pool ,the canoe and biked every day.We enjoyed the fresh egg breakfast from the chickens in the barn that was next door. Since we had a gas grill we had BBQ's just abount every night on the nice patio. We toured and hiked the areas around southern Vermont every day. My children received a extra special treat from the owners son who took them under his wing.I am sure they will always talk about his help in making it a awsome vacation for them.Thank you for all the extras, our entire family loved it.

    • My wife, 3-month-old son, and I just returned from the most glorious mid-August stay at the Grist Mill. Aside from the near-perfect weather we had for biking, swimming, and grilling, the setting was postcard-perfect and the open layout of the large kitchen/ living room on the ground floor made for a wonderfully social vacation with my wife's 2 sisters and their husband/boyfriend. The house was well-appointed with everything we needed for a perfect week of delicious meals, good company, and relaxing outdoor activity. We capped off the week with a swim across the temperate river to the New Hampshire side and a breakfast of eggs from the chickens right on the farm. A perfect, utterly relaxing week...only wish it had been 2 weeks!

    • We stayed in the Grist Mill with our friends, the Ericksons, Sept. 3, 2006 for a week. The farm is both beautiful and peaceful. Our hosts were gracious. This was just what we all need to wind down from our busy New York schedules. We highly recommend this getaway for anyone looking to relax and enjoy the beauty of vermont.
