My fiance and I spent 3 lovely nights here with two other couples and our two dogs. We were looking to escape NYC for the New Years holidays and this place looked like it fit the bill. We were not disappointed! The house was exactly as pictured and described, and was clean and fully stocked with everything we might need during our stay. We spent most of our time cooking and relaxing in front of the cozy fire, except to take walks along the river or visit all the adorable farm animals on the property. The owners were the true highlight of our stay and could not have been more friendly and hospitable. We even had a welcome basket filled with local Vermont goodies! We all talked about how much we looked forward to returning to the property sometime in the future!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This home was the perfect place for our family vacation... fully equipped with everything we needed and more from the dishware, soap, & cookbooks to baskets of books & puzzles for our little boy to enjoy. The place is well-loved & taken care of... nothing fancy in the furnishings (which is actually a relief when you have small children!), but clean & inviting. Lots of comfy space to relax - we could have come with another small family & had room to spread out. The animals outside, tree farm, and beautiful surroundings added to the experience.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

What a wonderful place! The restored Grist Mill was charmingly rustic, but fully outfitted with modern facilities. It was cozy and warm. The view of the river and fields of trees was awesome. We enjoyed walking those fields with our 2 small dogs, as well as walks down the quiet country road. We also explored the area by car and found lots of interesting places, restaurants and shops. We loved the sweet alpacas and the two goats, Jingle and Bells. They watched us come and go and we shared all our day's plans with them...they were quite interested. The chickens were beautiful and I enjoyed feeding them...they, too, came right up to you (anything for a bit of bread!) The animals were calm and gentle and friendly; you could tell they were well cared for and loved. Our landlords were charming and friendly. It was truly a delightful week's retreat for all 4 of us.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Our family's stay was from Sept, 17 to Sept, 24 2011. The Grist Mill property was a perfect gathering spot as three of our families coming in from three different states for a family reunion were able to share a very clean spacious home that was true to the description and pictures that were located on the web. Our family experience was excellent and I would advise anyone looking for a great value in a place to share and stay with cooking and laundry facilities to take a serious look at this property it is an excellent value.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

A "slice of heaven" is the way our family describes yearly vacation on the Christmas tree farm. We have been staying for a week for the last 11 years, and each return visit we discover something new to enjoy. We are eager to meet the alpacas who now call the farm their home. We love the serenity of the place and the grist mill feels spacious with three bathrooms, plenty of bedrooms and lots of family space. Over the years, we have loved long canoe trips on the river, hiking the mountain behind the farm, watching eagles and hawks from the river dock and relaxing by the pool. The river road is great for walks and bike riding. Our youngest daughter learned to ride her bike on the river road, and last summer took her first drive behind the wheel of the car! It has been amazing to me that now even with older teenagers, they feel like there is so much to do at the farm and around the area. We have come to know some great towns around Springfield and excursions within 1/2 hour to an hour from the farm if we are looking for something new. Peter, Sandra and Tim are always so helpful and have great ideas for events in the area.Last summer we attended a chocolate festival at an inn, that we never would have discovered on our own. The hospitality here is unsurpassed. Like the swallows that swoop at dusk into the barn behind the grist mill (my favorite activity is watching their nightly dance), we will be returning yet again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We rented "The Grist Mill" for a week over Christmas break, 4 of us, (2 children, ages 12 & 11) and our dog. We were fortunate to have 20" of snow the night we arrived. We enjoyed sledding at the farm and our daily ski trips to Okemo, Bromley or Stratton were all great. A beautful, quiet location and nice to get away from the ski mountains each night. Peter, the owner, was great to talk with & helpful. A special treat/surprise was to have a Christmas tree from the farm set-up in the house and a box of decorations waiting for us to decorate, as well as a gift of Vermont treats for us to enjoy - very nice touch and a wondeful welcome for our family.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, pet owners.

Our first visit was in the Christmas Cottage but this time we stayed in the Grist Mill. We needed a place close to our children and grandchildren who we were visiting and this place was perfect! Quiet, peaceful and beautiful scenery - unbeatable combination! The hosts were warm and welcoming each time, making us feel like family. Staying in the Grist Mill was a touch of history and very comfortable. We hope to make a longer visit back to the area and hope one of these accomodations will again be available! We would definitely recommend staying here.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We found the Grist Mill to be tucked away off the beaten path, quiet and serene with stunning views of the Conn. River and surrounding hills. We found the owner (Peter) to be very accommodating and full of wonderful tidbits of history and tales of the area and Vt. Our boat ride up the Conn. River was one of our highlights of our trip. Thank you ever so much for taking the time Peter. Our only recommendation would be upgrades of the two main bedroom beds, from Queen to King and a double to Queen. But a truly lovely stay--thank you, thank you D.P&R,GRecommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: We appreciate Penny's recommendation and are working on making the changes now.

We had a wonderful time at the Grist Mill. It's a great place for the family to have a nice, quiet get-away. The scenery along the river was something beyond description and especially since we were there during autumn with all the leaves in full color. The Grist Mill provided a place for us to stay in a slice of history and do it with modern conveniences. Our gracious hosts provided answers to all of our questions. Yes, we would definitely recommend the Grist Mill as a place to stay.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Some of my Vermont friends with children came to visit me during my stay. The orchard, playground, goats and chickens provided excellent entertainment for them. My family and I (4kids, 3 adults, 1 dog) spent an idyllic 2 weeks in the Grist Mill mid August of this year. Peter and Sandra are friendly and accessible hosts. We loved the tranquility and beauty of the farm and its location. Upon recommendations of our hosts, we traveled throughout Vermont and admired all we saw. We used the available canoe and also rented kayaks from just down the street at the bait shop and had a great time playing on the river. Peter gave us a wonderful evening tour on the river in his boat and took the kids tubing also. We visited Bromley's thrill center, Buttermilk and Bingham Falls, Ben & Jerry's, Simon Pearce and Dartmouth just to name a few favorites. We loved staying in the Grist Mill and thoroughlyenjoyed the goats, the river and Vermont My suburban Mother-in-law totally converted to life in the country after this visit. I can imagine how beautiful the scenery is in every season. My kids pronounced this the best vacation ever!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

The owners, Sandra and Peter, are wonderful people, and were quite accommodating--we even had a lovely boat ride on the river. The Christmas tree farm provided lots of wildlife to watch. The area is so quiet and peaceful. We would love to visit again!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

We rented the Grist Mill so we could join friends gathering in the area for a reunion and thought this would be just a place to sleep. But it turned out to be so utterly delightful a location that we plan on returning just to be there. The Grist mill is spacious and very personal but with the amenities that allow for comfort: dishwasher, washer/dryer and plenty of bathrooms with tubs or just showers. The BRs are bright and winodws open to fresh breezes. The historic nature of the property and the fact that the owners provide so much insight is a plus. Read the plaque about Lewis Morris on route 5 and imagine yourself in the late 18th century with one of the illustrious families of the revolutionary period.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

On a recent trip with my parents to the great state of Vermont I had the pleasure of spending my week at the gristmill. I had the run of the Christmas tree farm with views of the mountains and wonderful walks by the river. I also got to watch the "exotic" chickens and travel to Maple syrup farms, Harpoon brewery, and get enough cheese to make omlettes for me and my dog friends for a year. When the views of the leaves changing tired me, I spent my nights by the fire with my mom and dad. It was by far the best vacation this Siberian has every been on. -Yours trully Sr. BossDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

October 13, 2007, my husbnd and I took both sets of our parents and our 2 dogs on vacation. We stayed in the grist mill and found it to be very lovely and quaint. The area is beautiful with the mountains and Christmas trees. Our host was very understanding when we told we had to leave earlier than planned due to an illness in our family. At the time she was dealing with the same, but went out of her way to bring her minister to us to pray for our relative. We would love to go back and spend more time in this area.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My humans and I spent a wonderful week in late August this year in the Grist Mill house. The house was perfect and very accomodating to both four-legged and two-legged houseguests. I spent countless hours frolicking with my brother and his friend through the many beautiful and grassy acres of the farm. I enjoyed following the chickens around and listening to the roosters crowing. I relaxed by the fabulous in-ground pool while my humans swam. While I only went down to the river a couple of times, my family spent a lot of hours down on the dock and tubing on the water. The shade trees and soft grass were a delight and I had many blissful naps outdoors. Sandra and Peter offered my mom and dad a tour of their incredible home and they were always so nice and obliging. It was my best vacation ever and my humans are planning another vacation there next year. I hope it's for two weeks this time.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

It was nice that many of the things you usually must pack were provided by our host.We used the pool ,the canoe and biked every day.We enjoyed the fresh egg breakfast from the chickens in the barn that was next door. Since we had a gas grill we had BBQ's just abount every night on the nice patio. We toured and hiked the areas around southern Vermont every day. My children received a extra special treat from the owners son who took them under his wing.I am sure they will always talk about his help in making it a awsome vacation for them.Thank you for all the extras, our entire family loved it.Did you find this review helpful? My wife, 3-month-old son, and I just returned from the most glorious mid-August stay at the Grist Mill. Aside from the near-perfect weather we had for biking, swimming, and grilling, the setting was postcard-perfect and the open layout of the large kitchen/ living room on the ground floor made for a wonderfully social vacation with my wife's 2 sisters and their husband/boyfriend. The house was well-appointed with everything we needed for a perfect week of delicious meals, good company, and relaxing outdoor activity. We capped off the week with a swim across the temperate river to the New Hampshire side and a breakfast of eggs from the chickens right on the farm. A perfect, utterly relaxing week...only wish it had been 2 weeks!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My husband and I spent a long week end in September at the Grist Mill. What a beautiful peaceful spot. A place to relax and take in the scenery. We took a long walk on the country road and around the Christmas tree farm. The Grist Mill is charming and quaint. The Conn. River runs in front of the property for canoeing and fishing. A few things we did in the area--we took a train ride on the Green Mountain Flyer down in Bellow Falls, VT and we enjoyed a day at The Fort at No. 4 across the river in Charlestown, NH. We also enjoyed dining at several good restaurants in the area. Other attractions in the area are the Country Shop at the Robb Family Farm in Brattleboro, VT, Harlow’s Sugar House in Putney, VT, and Wellwood Orchards in Springfield, VT. We hope to plan another trip up to the area to take in more of country living in Vermont.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

My brief time at the Grist Mill was most rewarding. How can it be otherwise with such a beautiful place to get away from all the hassle of a busy daily routine. On my morning walk, the locals waved at me while they passed in their trucks/cars and made me feel very much a part of the area. I am adding this comment a little late but the week that my family stayed on Peter and Sandra's property was fantastic. The grist mill was nicely furnished and was everything we had hoped. The whole property was amazing and so convenient to the best Vermont has to offer. The hosts know the area well along with the history of the house and mill. We just returned from our stay and the Grist Mill, and I can't say enough good things about the house and our hosts. The house is beautiful, and has every convenience of home, everything we needed was there. Peter and Sandra are lovely people and made it a pleasure to stay there. Peter always had suggestions about good places to go, and nice places to eat. And the property! How could you not have a great time surrounded by thousands of christmas trees! There was also so much to do that we did not even get to it all, there a bicycles there to go for a ride and even a rowboat to go for a ride in on the river (which is right out in front of the property). I highly recommend staying here (and I am very picky). If you are thinking of going to Vermont you should definitely check this place out.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had a wonderful week at the restored grist mill. The property is gorgeous. We stayed the first week in August and our family made good use of the beautiful built in pool. Good fishing is literally steps away in the Connecticutt River. While out for an after supper row, a Bald Eagle flew right over our boat. The Mullica'sa perfect hosts and could not have made us feel more comfortable. There is so much to do from cycling (bicycles provided),swimming, fishing, taking a short ride to Woodstock or Quechee or simply enjoying the sights on the Christmas tree farm. Definitely a family friendly vacation. Thank you Sandra and Peter, you made our stay a great family memory.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0
