Perfect Hide away in tropical setting

Guest: linda (Whidbey Island, WA)
Date of Stay: 04/20/11 Review Submitted: 04/26/11

We loved waking up to the birds singing and enjoyed our pleasant accommodations. This is a tranquil setting over looking the tree tops with a great view of the ocean sun sets from a private balcony. Char has created a lovely botanical garden on their property and was happy to share her knowledge of the flowers, trees and fruits on the grounds. We'll be back and would recommend this as a perfect secluded get away home away from home.

North Shore Forever!

Guest: trixtar (Portland, OR, USA)
Date of Stay: 09/04/10 Review Submitted: 09/13/10

My wife and I just returned from a one week stay in Chars rental and it was fantastic!! Upon our arrival Char had left us a lovely basket of fresh picked fruits from her garden and Kona coffee. The coffee was much needed (due to the time difference), but the tasty fruit was a blessing! While we were there, a strawberry guava tree was bearing fruit right off the deck...we indulged every morning! Char gave us a very insightful tour of her amazing garden, the flowers and birds are beautiful...we even saw some wild parrots. The sunset view off the deck is second to none, and we even saw two green flashes! Honolulu is only one hour away by car, and Haliewa is also very close by...maybe 15mins depending on traffic. We went snorkeling at Waimea almost every day and even took surfing lessons...if you go to Waimea, plan on arriving early to get a good parking spot. In the winter months the North Shore is legendary for its world class surf breaks, and even if you aren't a surfer the waves are still a beautiful sight. There are the remains of a heiau right down the street...the remains of an ancient Hawaiian temple. The ruins are spectacular, but remember to be respectful if you visit. If you prefer to travel off the beaten path...this place is a MUST SEE!!!! Away from all the hustle/bustle that is the city of Honolulu, this peaceful and romantic getaway offered us peace and tranquility.

Owner response:Trixtar, Thank you for your review. Char

Pupukea rental for 2

Guest: Stendi (Olympia, WA)
Date of Stay: 05/09/10 Review Submitted: 05/18/10

This was a great experience.Rental was peaceful, away from the busy beach scene and immaculate. Renters(Chris and Char) were delightful and helpful. Garden was delightful and view into small valley below leading to distant water view from your deck was beautiful. You must have a rental car and be able climb a flight of stairs. No pool or resort amenities but considerably more private and restful.

Wonderful place to stay

Guest: vince & kristi (northern virginia)
Date of Stay: 05/02/09 Review Submitted: 05/21/09

This place gets away from it all. Beautiful view. peaceful gardens. Lots of birds. Tropical paradise. Beaches on north shore are magnificent. wish we had stayed longer. Only one hour from honolulu. Great food in Haliewa. Only drawback was driving on the only road to Haliewa on weekends could be a bear at times. Beach at Waimea bay is perfect. See Waimea Valley, the Heaiu, turtle beach. Polynesian Cultural Center is a short drive. Shrimp trucks on northern point are great.

Most amazing vacation

Guest: JMcD (Belmont, MA)
Date of Stay: 04/07/09 Review Submitted: 04/21/09

I definitely recommend staying here. The garden is almost unreal it's so beautiful; the views from the balcony are breathtaking, and Shark's Cove (just down the street) is full of the most amazing fish -- who could care less that you're swimming just inches from them. The pipeline is only minutes away, and it's worth popping over just to watch a few minutes of surfing. There's also a grocery store at the bottom of the hill -- so you can save a little money by not having to eat out for every meal. Only thing to be aware of -- if you're going to try to sleep in late, you might want to bring ear plugs or something. Personally, I thought it was nice to wake up with the sunrise and to the sounds of the birds (even some roosters crowing), but if you're a sleep-til-noon vacationer, you'll probably have to do something to block them out. Don't forget to account for your time difference though! For us, waking up at sunrise was almost the same as sleeping til noon! -Jen

Ka Hale Huna is beautiful and peaceful, just what we needed to come back to at the end of each busy day. Char and Chris are wonderful hosts, friendly and helpful. We would recommend Ka Hale Huna to anyone looking for a place to stay on the North Shore. It's clean, close to all amenities and the beach yet quiet and serene. We loved our stay!

Ka Hale Huna was the perfect place for our honeymoon! There was an absolutely beautiful view from the rental property. Char was a splendid hostess. It was always nice to come home and see her. She had great suggestions and directions to get us from here to there too. Thanks to Char we found one of the Lost sets and the same day we saw Terry O'Quinn (John Locke) out and about! We are major Lost fans so this was very cool. The room was very clean & comfortable, perfect for those lazy mornings. I would love to take home the bed & pillows. Char's gardens are breath taking along with the awesome fruit/bread/coffee basket she had waiting for us. I LOVE the passion fruit jelly and cannot stop thinking about it. Overall, we couldn't ask for a better experience. Char and the rental property definitely influenced our outlook on Hawaii and the laid back culture of the north shore. We recommend this place through and through to anybody. We cannot thank Char enough for her hospitality and opening her beautiful home to us. Mahalo & aloha!

Wonderful Retreat

Guest: Bob and Amy (Clinton,NJ)
Date of Stay: 10/05/08 Review Submitted: 10/11/08

Just returned home from our stay at Ka Hale Huna in Oahu's North Shore. We were 100% satisfied and had a wonderful time. The rental was exceptionally clean and tidy with spectacular views. We couldn't feel more relaxed. If you are looking for your own little hideaway to escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life than this is for you! Char's garden and grounds were beautiful and interesting for us to explore given that we come from the east coast. We admire Char and Chris for being able to call Ka Hale Huna home and feel blessed for being able to call it our home for the last 5 days. Would definately return again!

Welcome to paradise, away from the crowds.

Guest: Charlie and Andi (Denver, Colorado, USA)
Date of Stay: 09/14/08 Review Submitted: 09/28/08

We have nothing but good things to say about our stay at Ka Hale Huna. The place was clean and well kept, the daily fresh fruit from Char's garden was just amazing and I felt like waking up in paradise every morning when I woke up to birds, roosters crowing. My husband enjoyed grilling out on vacation; the grocery store is just minutes away. Wonderful beaches are nearby such as Turtle Bay (public access although a resort is there) invite to snorkeling and we watched surfers and sunsets, turtles, and seals, all within 10-15 minutes of driving from the perfect getaway. A trip to Honolulu and the famous Waikiki beach made me realize just how fortunate we were to stay away from overcrowded beaches and hotel after hotel. Instead, we truly experienced paradise. Char and Chris were wonderful hosts, we called them many times to ask about where to go and what to do and they gave us many tips and info. I would recommend this to everyone who wants to stay away from tourist crowds and overpriced food. On the flight home, we spoke to a few other tourists who were staying in Honolulu and were disappointed. I hope to be able to return to Oahu soon and would not think of staying anywhere else on that island.

*** A Note From the Owners of Ka Hale Huna*** Along with the very comfortable suite for two you will also be welcomed with fresh flowers picked right out of my botanical gardens just for you, orchid plants in bloom that were grown in my shade house, and a fruit basket full of fresh local fruits, whatever happens to be in season at the time and will be replenished during your stay. If you love huge, buttery avocados then come during September through November. Just a few steps from your door you can pick your own tree ripened avocados.

We LOVED Ka Hale Huna!! Char and Chris are an awesome couple and we look forward to seeing them again next year..if not sooner:) Ka Hale Huna is a tranquil beautiful place to stay. The interior is kept exceptionally clean. The view from the lanai with Waimea in the distance is fantastic. Char and Chris are very knowledgable and can give you advice on anything you may need. We LOVED the surf spots map in the kitchen (thanks). Ka Hale Huna is located in a great location..quick drive to most beaches:) The garden tour was great. Next time we WILL plant our own pineapple. Loved the fresh fruit from Char's garden and the champagne waiting in the fridge for us honeymooners was a nice and thoughtful touch. Perfect serene getaway off the beaten track. April Honeymoon

Date of Stay: 04/21/08 Review Submitted: 05/06/08

Overall i would recommend this for anyone wanting to go to Hawaii (Oahu) and stay somewhere off the beaten track. I would have given this a 4.5 out of 5 if i could but my choices were limited to a 4 or 5. Char and Chris were very nice and accomodating and we would rate our hosts a 5 out of 5. My only issue to prevent a perfect score was that i think the mattress, comforter, and some of the pillows could use replacing. That was really my only complaint. Weather was beautiful and there is never a shortage of things to do on Oahu whatever your budget.

Owner response:Thank you for your reveiw. We truley appologise for any inconveniance with the bedding. We replace our bedding every 6 months or so or as necessary. Unfortunately, our new order of bedding came in a week after your stay and has since been replace. We take great pride in providing a clean and comfortable home away from home for our guests to stay. We appreciate all of the reviews whether positive or negative. It's through these reveiws that we know if we need to make improvements or adjustments to make everyone's stay more enjoyable. What a wonderful tropical paradise! We truly had a relaxing time at Ka Hale Huna! The birds singing, fine misting rain, the cool breeze, apple bananas, passion fruit jam, are a few of our favorite things. Chris and Char were wonderful hosts, we feel like we made new friends that we look forward to seeing again. We would highly recommend it, if you just want to get away from it all.

Ka Hale Huna offered peaceful tranquility and beautiful views from our private lanai. Morning wake up calls were provided compliments of the tropical birds in the canopy just outside our door. We were welcomed with a basket of fresh fruit havested from Char's lovingly tended gardens, macadamia nuts, and 100% Kona coffee. The personal garden tour is not to be missed. Char's personal knowledge of the area proved quite valuable, as she provided advice on the best eateries and places to visit, often frequented by only the locals "in the know". We will most certainly return to Ka Hale Huna on our next visit to the North Shore.

We had the opportunity to stay at Ka Hale Huna in January 2007. Char's Aloha hospitality made for a unique and enjoyable visit. She met us and welcomed us upon our arrival, presenting us with a fruit basket and homemade banana bread. Her special touches were evident in the fresh flowers in our room and in the atrium as well as an invitation to tour her beautiful garden. The studio was bright and comfortable with an amazing view of the treetops and ocean. Watching the rain sweep in and listening to the gentle drops on the canopy of trees from our lanai was great. If you want to appreciate Oahu off of the beaten path, this is an oasis to truly relax and enjoy.

I must say, as a resident of O'ahu, Ka Hale Huna is a fabulous retreat. As other guests have stated, we went away feeling like we left home, and long to return everytime we think about our vacation. Char has appointed the unit very well, and we made good use of the kitchen, bath, and beach supplies. The garden is amazing, day or night! We enjoyed the fresh fruits and flowers that decorated the suite. The views of the lush valley, ocean and sunsets are tireless. Hearing and watching the birds at dawn and dusk was such a treat. We brought our binoculars to watch their activities. We took the bird chart hiking at Waimea Valley Audobon Society and to the Pupukea trail, and had the privilege of sighting a baby white-rumped shama. The adults sing the prettiest songs, and you can hear them in the valley right outside the suite. It was a private and serene experience, just what a getaway should be - and so close to home! Mahalo nui, Char, for sharing your wonderful home with us. We look forward to many returns!

Ka Hale Huna was far beyond what I could ever imagine. I felt as if I was living in a paradise in the lush mountain tropical forests with the ocean in view. Char is a very welcoming person. I felt pampered in the beautiful suite she prepared along with the most beautiful fruit basket from her botanical garden and delicious home-made banana bread. Sitting in her botanical garden provided mepeace and serenity. The convenient location to the beaches such as Pipeline and Sunset were great. Snorkeling at Shark's Cove ( no sharks there) was beautiful. The market and coffee house are conveniently located nearby. I highly recommend Char's place as if has it all with great privacy.

KaHale Huna was a beautifuln quiet place to recuperate from work. Hardly any noises but birds and the distant surf. Would definitely like to go back again. Plenty of privacy, well appointed. Besides the beaches, one of the best views on Oahu is right near by: the heiau on the left side of the road as you head back down from the house to the shore. This ancient Hawaiian sacred site is well restored and still beautifully supplied with offerings. The view of the sea is awesome. The other thing to do is to go to the Boy Scout camp up at the end of Pupukea, and walk the trail through the forest: paper trees, interesting views of the hills.

A great little nest located in the prestigious Pupukea foothills on the North shore of Oahu. Clinging to the side of a gorgous canyon over looking the flora and fauna of the lush tropical Hawaiian landscape the apartment has all the amenities of a five star hotel. With an ocean view to die for it is said that on a clear day you can see Lanai as well as the much sought after "Green Flash" associated with the magnificant Hawaiian sun set. A great place to "Hang Loose" and enjoy the solitude of nature, yet a short jaunt to the beach for fun in the sun. If golf and/or tennis are your bag,"Turtle Bay Resort" is only twenty munites away and of course the big city life of Honolulu is always an option. A class "A" establishment we highly reccommend.

Thank you Char for the wonderful stay we enjoyed at your "Castle in the Clouds" on the North Shore. Our stay in this perfect mountain hideaway allowed us to come away rested and rejuvenated. Your light and airy room is decorated in tranquil tones and in the spirit of Hawaii. The large bath is wonderful and the kitchenette with its basket of goodies was delightful. We enjoyed lazing on the decks with its fabulous views of trees and ocean. We were pleasantly awakened by the soft songs of the wild birds from the adjacent forested canyon and were fascinated with whale watching from our lounge chairs on the deck. We were surprised that this very private place of yours is just minutes from beaches, restaurants and shopping. The experience was wonderful, and the location a haven of peace away from the hustle and bustle of every day life.

Cool, light, bright and airy; elegant decor. Perched above the treetops with sweeping views to the ocean. Perfect sunsets, birdsong and tranquillity. Delicious home baked banana (home grown) bread in welcome package:-) So restful, yet close to wonderful beaches and shops. Thanks Char. We'll be back!
