We first came to Estes Park for vacation following the 1996 Olympic Games, and loved it immediately. With the Rocky Mountains just out the back door, it's a perfect spot for a long summer vacation or a quick weekend or holiday get-away. Summers are as active or kicked-back as you want, while winters have been becoming more and more popular the last two years, particularly for folks taking a long weekend.
The top floor of the house holds the master bedroom. A full bath is accessible from both the master bedroom and the living room. The kitchen is fully stocked with enough dishes to host ten of your closest friends. There are plenty of pots and pans, mainly copper-clad Revereware.
The dining table seats six. The living area has a large L-shaped sectional sofa big enough for comfortable naps, as well as a new futon sofa that folds down to a futon bed. The corner of the living room features a wood-burning stone fireplace. The wrap-around deck is accessible from both the living and dining areas.
The deck is fabulous. The house faces east, so you can kick off your mornings sitting out there with a mug of coffee as you watch the sun rise. Close your days with a glass of wine and count the stars. Some guests have informed us that the positioning of the master bedroom was such that they could watch Estes Park's Fourth of July fireworks from the comfort of their own bed!
Downstairs is the newly re-done twin bedroom, with bathroom and shower down the hallway. New flooring was laid in the downstairs bedroom and hallway in December 2013. The laundry room is very large, and comes with full-sized washer and dryer, and plenty of space for storage, including a pair of 1940's snowshoes to use in case you get snowed in some day.
The garage is very roomy, with a workbench and enough room for all your toys...golf clubs, skis, mountain bikes, fishing rods, etc. It also holds the gas grill.
Our home is in the quiet, natural neighborhood of Elkhorn Club Estates. Fall River flows just 100 yards away. Old Man Mountain overlooks the neighborhood, just the spot for a quick pre-breakfast walk. A five-minute walk brings you to the riding stables of the Elkhorn Lodge, and we recommend joining them one morning for their Breakfast Ride.
A 15-minute stroll brings you to Estes Park's new bandshell. And walk just 20 minutes to reach the first of Estes Park's shops and restaurants. Everything is close enough to reach by foot, but far enough that you never hear a sound.
One of the better benefits of our location is the easy access to Rocky Mountain National Park. When everybody at the other end of town is still dealing with the main street traffic signals as they head for the park's Beaver Meadows entrance, you'll be driving through the Fall River entrance less than ten minutes after walking out your front door.
One last note: no pets and no smoking, please. We keep the home bright, clean, and healthy. You'll sleep like a log each night, and go home completely refreshed by your vacation or long weekend.
