The pictures of the view actually don't do it justice. The minute you enter the place and see floor to ceiling windows, the ocean is in front of you. Walk down the path to Kapalua beach and Ironwood. both nice but windy (but that's how west maui is). This is a great place. Store on Post road near the Ritz hotel has most needs at reasonable prices. Bed getting a bit dated, but still 5/5 pace. Would highly recommend.

Recommended for:Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.

This is the worst place that we have ever stayed in Maui

First of all, the door code didn't work and we had to stay an extra night at our preceding condo-- lucky for us they had a vacancy--because Maui is booked in February. When we arrived, there were many problems with the condo. We were told you didn't need air conditioning and it was humid and stifling in the condo all month that we stayed. We had to buy a small air conditioner--and then the neighbors complained because they saw it sticking out of the bedroom window. You couldn't take a bath because the hot water ran out with 2 inches of water in the giant tub. Then the washer went out, and we were plagued with roaches and even a centipede! The management company was unfriendly at first, but then, after we made threats, fixed everything we asked for except turning the water up. We would not stay at a Kapalua villa again unless there was air conditioning and the condo had been upgraded. This place was old and falling apart. They didn't even have pots and pans that you could use. The pans were worn out teflon, and nothing matched. They offered a water filter on the refrigerator--and it was not working. The TV's were 1950 size. You get the picture! Otherwise, the view is terrific, and if you don't mind inconveniences, this is the place for you!

I have been to Maui a lot, and have learned a lot. I will live in Hana. I don't enjoy South Maui very much with it's kitsch and hotels. Paia is a wonderful little spot to stay to be central to the entire island.... but there is nowhere, nowhere like Kapalua. These little villas are so incredibly affordable, it almost doesn't seem real - our unit was right along the water, waves crashing on the volcanic coastline. Beaches were incredibly close nearby... Kapalua beach in front of the Ritz Residences (you don't have access to the Residences - but it isn't clear. You need to check out their pool) has got to be one of the nicest beaches on the island... decent snorkeling, calm, wind protected. DT Fleming is great, a little less protected and rougher waters. Mellow surfing. But you are close to *everything* good.. The Ritz, Sansei (affordable and delicious), the crazy road north to the Blowhole and beyond. It's just a really special place... it's more romantic than other parts of the island, as well... you have a huge tiled bath to boot! A lovely lanai, fully stocked kitchen with dishwasher and ice maker. There are some supplies there, leftover salt, pepper, olive oil.. but make sure. The pool code wasn't in the book, but Michael was INCREDIBLY nice, helpful, and totally available. The pool area is nice, and is the closest one to the ocean. There is a grill available to you - a huge propane one that is well kept. It is AMAZING and I suggest grilling some salmon or kabobs.. it was an affordable early dinner, and it was one of our favorites! =) It is totally equipped to be a really private, romantic experience, but out side on the lanai you don't have much privacy - other units can see, people are walking along a wonderful mini-hiking trail from beaches to volcanic outcroppings. You can close the shades, but people are around. If that's of concern to you, it's good to be aware... but no one is looking at you. It's the view, the peace - gazing at Molokai. It's incredibly peaceful, offers endless relaxation or endless active fun, without the throngs of tourists and madness associated with that. Plenty of restaurant options, but the kitchen is a lifesaver. I cannot reccomend Michael and this unit more highly. Thank you - we will be back!

October Stay at Kapalua

The pictures of this do not due this property justice. We just completed a week's stay here, and were absolutely blown away. Beautiful views, breaking waves, and an incredible setting. The Kapulua resort is one of the finest of the islands, and the views and serenity of this condo is unbelievable. Dining at Sansei and Merriman's was amazing, as well as the world class golf courses. We can't wait to come back!

Recommended for:Romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Great Oceanfront Views!

We just returned from a 6 night stay in this Kapalua Bay Villa. The view is even better then advertised. You will love being able to just step out onto the lanai and take in the ocean view. Access to the beachfront walking trail is steps away. Green grassy area is great for the kids and for picture taking. The condo itself was nice, but could use some updating. The master bath and bedroom appeared to be newer and were both nice. The kitchen was small but well stocked. We found plenty of stuff available to use during our stay in the closet including snorkeling equipment, beach toys, chairs, and mats, boogie boards, and tennis rackets. A couple of notes, there were lots of sugar ants in the condo, especially in the kitchen and bathroom. No Air Conditioning. There are two ceiling fans and plenty of small windows to open for ventilation, however. Damaged mini-blinds. The new flat-screen in the bedroom is about a 19" TV. Cell phone service is poor to non-existent. Our biggest concern was to find out that even though you are staying within the Kapalua resort, you aren't considered a resort guest because you rented directly from an owner and not through the resort itself. You don't get the preferred tee time rate at the Plantation or Bay courses. We were not provided with an access code to use the pools/grill area within the Bay Villas by the owner. You don't have access to the Ritz Carlton within the resort. Communication with the owners was inconsistent. E-mails were returned very promptly when I was inquiring about availability, but as soon as I booked and paid for the rental, I did not receive a written confirmation of payment, and I did not receive any responses to my e-mails asking for one. It wasn't until I was able to reach one of the owners by telephone that a confirmation e-mail was sent to me. When paying a large amount of money, it is nice to receive a confirmation of booking and receipt of payment right away, just like you would expect to receive when booking any type of hotel, car, or flight reservation. Overall, I am giving this a Good rating because we really did have a wonderful time. It was nice to return to the Kapalua area, where it is nice and quiet, after spending a busy day in Lahaina or around the island.

Owner response:I was in Indonesia on a remote part of the Island of Bali, when this guest reserved the condo, and he may have not received all my emails, confirmations, they were sent. They would have been emailed a confirmation of deposit on 5/20; and received an email payment confirmation directly from paypal on 6/2 when final payment was made. Also, I sent another email on 6/5 which included the directions,etc. Key access code was assigned 6/20 by another email. Pool access code was just an oversight, and promptly given when asked. Yes, the condo could use some more updating, but the price per night reflects this, and the condo is very comfortable and well supplied/equipped, and one of the best close up views in Kapalua. Many guests that have stayed here have used the Ritz Carlton Hotel (the hotel is on the hill, not the new facility Ritz Carlton Residences) facilities with no problems, you just don't get the 'charging privelege' to pay on your resort bill. All guests are welcome to use the Spa facilities (for a fee of course) and golf courses. Also, there are 3 swimming pools & 2 tennis courts to use in the Kapalua Bay Villas. Ants...sure they love it here too. The complex and condo have regular treatments.

Recommended for:Romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children.

Fantastic view, overlooking the ocean. The patio is some 35 feet from the edge of the cliffs. Spacious feel. Great retreat palce.

The best vacation ever! The condo is wonderful with an absolute gorgeous view. Short 1 minute walk to beach, great waves for body surfing. Great Snorkeling at Honolua Bay, 5 minute drive.

A beautiful place with an outrageous view of the ocean that's only 20 ft. away! We spent a lot of time just sitting and watching the waves. About a 15 minute walk to Kapalua Beach and to another beach north of this condo from parking lot of Condo 20. Condo has boogie boards, snorkel gear, tennis racquets as well as the usual microwave, dishwasher, coffemaker,washer, dryer, ironing board and iron. All the essentials for a wonderful vacation!
