Magnificent!

Date of Stay: 01/11/12 Review Submitted: 01/18/12

We came to participate in the Bermuda Half Marathon Challenge.Perfect location for the race.Everything has been wonderful from the beginning to the end of our stay.Scott arranged transportation for us to and from our vacation home, drove us into Hamilton the first night to help us get oriented and this allowed us to purchase groceries. Our studio apt had everything we could have wanted ..even to the white bathrobes. (what a nice touch) The view from our unit was spectacular! Scott has been an amazing host. We will remember this trip to Bermuda forever.

We highly recommend Scott's property! This was our first time to Bermuda and it was great to be close to Hamilton where you can easily find transportation to other parts of Bermuda. We did not rent scooters. Each morning we walked into town and then took the ferry or bus to whereever we wanted to go. The Bermudians are very friendly and helpful and Scott was very hospitable. We hope to make it back sometime soon! Our favorite was snorkeling around St. Georges. Thank you!

Great stay

Scott was great. Nice guy and the place really matches the pictures and descriptions. Something not fully portrayed is the magnificent view. The apartment is nice and quiet with very little traffic making the place nice and private. The bread and jam was a nice start for us before finding our way to the market. Only drawback was the location. Being a bit outside of town, it is walkable however the lack of sidewalks makes navigating any Bermudian road a little risky. Best to grab a cab, and a ride into town always worked out to around 10dollars.

Great View; Phenomenal Host

Guest: Yoav (United States)
Date of Stay: 12/19/10 Review Submitted: 12/28/10

I had the pleasure of staying at the Cavendish apartment during Christmas of 2010. Although it rained a lot that week, the view of the Great Sound from the apartment was absolutely spectacular. The apartment included a bedroom, two bathrooms and a reasonable spacious living area with a fully stocked kitchen. Also included were free wireless Internet and cables with oodles of channels from the U.S. including HBO and Showtime, should you decide to stay in. But the Cavendish’s biggest attraction is its host Scott. Scott made sure everything in the apartment was in good order and was even kind enough to drive me to Hamilton (20 minutes walk) and the airport (half an hour drive). He is an intelligent, warm-hearted man and has explained some fascinating things about Bermuda. Besides, given the exuberant hotel prices in Bermuda, Scott’s apartments are not only the best deal on the island, they are the only deal.

The Perfect Holiday

Guest: Jo Anne and Joe (West Hartford, CT USA)
Date of Stay: 11/24/10 Review Submitted: 12/01/10

My husband and I had the most enjoyable stay at Summerside - a "mind, body and spirit" holiday. Summerside is located in a quiet, exclusive residential area about a 25 mintue walk into Hamilton, the island's capital. Scott, the owner, was the best "host" we have ever encountered. Summerside is sparkling clean; the king-size bed is very comfortable; washer and dryer was a great amenity (so you don't have to pack a lot of clothes.) The balcony is large and offers breathtaking views of the harbour. Even the weather was perfect. It was in the low 70's every day we were there - something we don't experience in New England at this tinme of year. We spent time in Hamilton - shopping and dining; St. Georges - beautiful old stone buildings with narrow streets and lanes, Tobacco Bay and quaint shops; Dockyard - the Clocktower Mall and an arts centre; the famous Crystal Cave - discovered in 1905 by two 12-year old boys looking for a lost cricket ball; and Elbow Beach, with its smooth sand and turquoise waters. From our experience, our two favorite restaurants are Port 'o Call in Hamilton and in Dockyard, The Frog and Onion. As we had a kitchenette, we shopped at Miles Market in Hamilton - expensive, but the market has fresh fruits and veggies and excellent take out meals. We've already recommended Scott's property to some friends of ours and we will definitely return to Summerside. Thank you Scott!

Descend On Unhurried, Unspoiled, Uncommon Bermuda

Guest: Phyllis (Burke, VA)
Date of Stay: 11/06/10 Review Submitted: 01/04/11

This was the first time I ever rented a vacation apartment online; and based on the reviews by other clients, I selected Scott's property and was very happy I did. Our apartment was exactly as it was described, but the views of the Great Sound from the balcony surpassed the website pictures. We rented the apartment with the ship's ladder to the bedroom above the living space, and enjoyed having the extra space without the bed. We stayed the beginning of November, and Scott provided plenty of information and what to expect for Bermuda's weather and temperature before our arrival. The rental is in a quite residential area with friendly people, and a small grocery store 10 minutes away. Since you can not rent cars and we didn't rent scooters, we walked to town to take advantage of the bus and ferry services, and was picked up several times by neighbors who knew we were tourist (Bermudians don't walk) and from Scott's rentals. The walk to town took about 25 minutes and was downhill, but at night we took a cab back to the apartment. This was the only drawback to the location. I recommend taking advantage of the best value, which was the 3-day bus/ferry pass to anywhere on the island including transfers. A cheap way to see the island! Had a fun ride to St. George's. The purpose of our visit was to watch our son play on the USA rugby team for the World Rugby Classic; therefore, we spent our nights at the stadium and the players tent for dinner and not at restaurants. We did have a great dinner at the Swizzle Inn by the airport and a delicious breakfast at the Pickled Onion on Hamilton's Front Street. The Bristol Cafe (I believe this is the name) located at the Ferry Terminal has a wonderful and delicious selection for a reasonable price too. We liked the towns of St. George and Dockyard best; and Crystal Caves and the Aquarium, Museum and Zoo are a must see. I would recommend Scott's property to friends because he is very friendly and helpful, and our apartment was clean and well-maintained. What I found helpful were the numerous tourist brouchers and the bus/ferry schedules in our room that assisted in planning ahead our sightseeing activities schedules. With many rain showers, be prepared to see lots of rainbows -- a very good sign. November is not the tourist season so it was less crowded and even on the beaches, hurray, but be prepared to make your own sightseeing plans as there are no "tours." Hope this review helps you decide.

Most Enjoyable Vacation

Guest: doug & christina (DC)
Date of Stay: 08/22/10 Review Submitted: 08/31/10

My wife and I were fortunate enough to stay in Cavendish (Unit 3) recently (August 2010), and we can honestly say it was one of the most enjoyable vacations we have ever had. I am usually ready to come home after a week of vacation, but I wasn't ready to leave Bermuda generally, or Cavendish specifically. The unit provided everything we needed to have a great stay. It was clean and well-maintained, and everything was as advertised. When we did have a problem with the coffeer maker, we had a new one within 10 minutes of sending the e-mail. The wireless internet is key for checking e-mail, and calling the states was no problem. We turned on the TV for about 5 minutes a day to check weather. But it was nice to know it was there, complete with some DVDs, in case the weather let us down. The airport pickup and drop off was extremely convenient (Scott was nice enough to drive us himself on our return to the airport). The various items to get the refrigerator started are also a great touch. Whenever we had a question Scott was really helpful, whether it was about something we were considering doing, or just the island generally. The house's proximity to Hamilton is ideal, since this is where most of the restaurants are, and it places you centrally on the island. Consequently, you are never far from home, and you have access to the bus and ferries if you decide to use those (we travelled mostly by moped). Even though there are three units, you rarely come across others, it felt very private. Bermuda itself is fantastic, but even with all the options, one of our favorite things to do was spend the evening sitting on the porch and staring at the opposite hill/harbor, the views from the porch are simply wonderful. We would not hesitate to stay at Summerside again.

The property was perfect, it was so clean & with awesome views. The owner Scott met us and even invited us to his wedding reception upstairs at his home. It was a beautiful settings over looking the sunset & the boats. We rented a moped which was great to get around & I felt very safe. We will be back next year & would recommend to everyone this is The Very Best Place To Stay. P.S. We loved eating at The Lemon Tree Cafe in Hamilton, best meats pies.

I had the pleasure of staying at Summerside in June 2010. I had never rented an apartment before and now it is definately my preference!! Scott was very helpful during our stay and location and beauty of the property was just PERFECT. We walked in to town everyday and took a cab back in the evening if we were tired. It was nice to be able to kayak in the morning or just lounge around and admire the view. Love Love Love :o)

Scott is an excellent host! He gave us tips on places to see, how to get around. He drove us into town when it worked for his schedule. The location was excellent for getting away from it all -- we generally had breakfast & supper here; ate lunch out while touring around each day. The week's stay allowed us to see the island from St. Georges in the east to Dockyard in the west. We used a 7 day transit pass on the ferries & buses to get around -- it was a beautiful 25 minute walk to the ferry or bus terminal. Lots to do & see; had a wonderful time. The unit itself contained everything as advertised -- kitchenette, bathroom, queen bed, chairs to relax, a beautiful view & chairs on the patio to enjoy the surroundings!

Simply Beautiful

Date of Stay: 03/14/10 Review Submitted: 04/11/10

My wife and I stayed six days at Summerside, and we certainly wished we could have stayed twice as long. The pictures do not do justice to the beautiful views. I especially loved the evenings sitting out on the terrace watching the lighthouse in the distance. It was so quiet and peaceful! The owner Scott made sure our stay was a pleasant one. He even doubled checked out taxi to the airport when they didn't show exactly on time. Our daily plan was to to walk to Hamilton (about a 30 minute walk), do our sightseeing from there, and take a taxi back after we had exhausted ourselves. This worked pretty well, though Scott helped us out by giving us a ride into town our first day. On another day while we were walking to town one of Scott's neighbors pulled over and offered us a ride. We met so many nice people in our week in Bermuda! The apartment is well appointed, and it is possible to make meals there with the microwave. It was very clean and comfortable. Any traveller with an independent streak will enjoy staying here.

Great place to stay on a wonderful island!!

We visited Sumerside March 1 - 8 2010. We were greeted by Lionel (arranged by Scott), who taxied us to the apartment. Scott was very friendly, informative & fun, and even dropped us off in town a couple times. The apt was bright, clean, comfortable & roomy...and the view was incredible! Everyday we woke up to another incredible blue! (well, some bad weather too, but that's what you get when you travel to Bermuda in the winter) We could easily walk into Hamilton to get some groceries or catch a bus to many of the sights and excellent restaurants. We loved St George's and the rocky shores, the Crystal Caves, The Naval Dock Yard, The Swizzle Inn, Flanagans, The South Shore Beaches, The Lighthouse, Baracuda and the Hog Penny. We did alot of walking around the island and took the bus or ferry everyday to another adventure. Bermuda is very safe & the Bermudians are so friendly. We would love to return, but would probably pick April or May. I would highly recommend this property (and have already!) We loved not being in a busy touristy place, having free calls to our home in Ontario, and wireless internet (it strangely was fun to just surf and chill some evenings (during bad weather)) If you have any questions, feel free to email me. Have fun planning your trip to Bermuda, you will love it!!

My husband and I had the pleasure of visiting Bermuda February 5-14. Our original departure date was February 10. Because of the snowstorms on the East Coast we had to stay a little longer than planned. We were staying in a guest apartment called Summerside (listing# 59845) owned by Scott Stewart. When our stay got extended by the weather, he allowed us to stay as long as possible before we had to move out. He went above and beyond the call of duty and found us another place to stay. He even drove us over to our new place. I believe Scott represents what Bermuda is ... warm, friendly and helpful. We cannot thank him enough for all that he did. We also enjoyed all the wonderful people from The Spot that welcomed us warmly everyday. We looked forward to seeing them as they made us feel a part of the community. Our only disappointment was the fact that Fort St. Catherine was not open. With all that being said, because of Scott Stewart and his kindness, the Kingston House taking us in, The Spot making us feel welcome and our wonderful cab driver, Lionel Woolridge, we will be returning in the near future. I have recommended Bermuda to everyone I know. Thanks for making my 50th birthday very special.

Wonderful Landlord & Comfortable Apartment with the Greatest View

Guest: Dragana (Pembroke, Bermuda)
Date of Stay: 01/14/10 Review Submitted: 03/30/10

The apartment location is the most beautiful and the safest location in Bermuda. And, this comes from a person who lived in other parts of Bermuda (West End, Paget, Pembroke North). The apartment photos that you see on the web look nice, but the place itself cannot be photographed properly as no photo can capture the real beauty of the view and the cuteness of the house. The property and the apartment were perfectly clean (except for a few cockroaches that appeared in the kitchen and bedroom, but I simply bought bug spray and sprayed; I had no further problems with them, although they make a significant part of this Paradise island, they come with the territory, so you would deal with them anywhere you go in Bermuda). The neighborhood is very safe and lovely for walking and sightseeing as it has corners with completely wild nature and a few really beautiful old houses. I would also recommend kayaking (Landlord has two kayaks available to guests). The best part of this experience is the landlord. While staying there, I literally felt like at home and as if Scott is my father. His brother gave me a ride to a grocery store on my first day there. Scott offered help so many times. If something is not working right, Scott fixes it with absolute coolness and charm. If there is any question, he is always available to respond. He is very generous (a true rarity in Bermuda), very kind and helpful. And so is his brother who replaced him while Scott was away. I was not a tourist; I stayed in the apartment for more than a month while I was looking for a permanent accommodation on the island as I came here on work permit. I had unbelievable problems with finding an apartment.Scott knew about this, and one day he brought a newspaper with rental listings, told me about to-me-unknown website where I could also look, and simply was full of understanding for my situation.I saw so many apartments and dealt with so many landlords, and from this experience I realized that Scott is really a great landlord. Many local landlords offer little for a lot of money, so, to me, given what you get at this apartment for a very affordable price, you cannot find better vacation or temporary rental than this.Nothing can match this unbelievable view, cozy little place and its truly exceptional landlord.I am actually sorry that Scott is not renting this unit on permanent basis because I would certainly stay. Therefore, I highly recommend this apartment. You'll Enjoy, I guarantee it!

If you need to unwind and relax, then Summerside is the place for you. The view is absolutely beautiful and the photo does not show you the expanse of the harbour. The unit was very clean with plenty of towels (beach towels too!), washer/dryer downstairs to use also. It was very quite. We did need a scooter to get around due to the location being not close to a bus stop, which was fine for us. It is a 10 minute walk to a market down the street and a 30 minute walk to downtown Hamilton. We look forward to returning.
