Secluded Property

Property is very well maintained. We have rented quite a few properties over the years and will say this is a very nice property. This property is very secluded, another bonus. I would prefer to be closer to the water however you could hear the waves hit the shore if you listened closely.

Awesome Home

Date of Stay: 01/14/12 Review Submitted: 01/31/12

I can honestly say it far exceeded our expectations! Everything was perfect. The house was very clean, beautifully decorated and we loved it. We only went out to eat a couple of times because my daughter loves to cook. Your kitchen had everything we needed. We enjoyed sitting outside on the outdoor dining terrace in the evenings and counting all the cute little geckos on the walls. The beds are very comfortable and the sheets soft. We used the pool every day and took great pleasure in relaxing in the warm sunshine. We looked for the iguana each day who loved to sun himself on the seashells next to the pool. We named him Hermie! The house, with all of the windows and fans, was always comfortable. Each time we went out, we walked a short way to the main road and always were able to get a taxi. As I said before, everything was perfect! I want you both to know, if at all possible, my daughter and I will return to your beautiful house next January. Thank you for making this one of my best vacations ever.

Island Escape

Guest: Samm M. (Connecticut)
Date of Stay: 01/01/12 Review Submitted: 01/08/12

We stayed at the Casa for the first 6 days of the new year and had a wonderful time. Getting to the Casa was no problem, the taxi driver knew where to go and charged us about 70 pesos. No matter what the current exchange rate we found out that most businesses use the standard $1USD=12.50 pesos. A good thing to keep in mind when purchasing items. As usual in any tourist destination we encountered many people who inflated prices...a simple walk away generally dropped prices dramatically and for some items we held out to find the right price elsewhere. We rented a gold cart for our stay there and paid about $50 a day, it was worth it to us. The Casa itself was very enjoyable...very clean, comfortable and had all the amenities needed to feel like home. Views are wonderful and the fresh ocean air cools the house and this time of year almost makes you chilly at night. We made most of our own meals in the Casa but did eat downtown the first night and had some pizza from Michelangelo's Pizza a mile or so down from the Casa. It was good pizza. Although we didn't get to use the pool at the Casa(too chilly/windy) we certainly enjoyed the DVD collection at the house...Forest Gump, a classic! The two decks off the kitchen were very much enjoyed and we loved seeing the iguana's sunning themselves in the morning by the pool. The colors of the Casa, tasteful decor and spaciousness can't be relayed in the pics shown. I want a palapa and hammocks for our patio at home! :) We took several tours and crossed over on the Ferry quite a bit. A simple guideline for the cost of taxis. A taxi from Puerto Juarez to Beach Palace should be 170 pesos...oh and we took the ADO bus from the airport to the bus station for $12USD (for 3 people) from there we grabbed a cab to the ferry for $3 (for 3 people) vs the van service that was charging $15 per person to Puerto Juarez. We also took bus service (8.50 pesos) from the Ferry to hotel location shopping...we learned as we went along. Souvenier shopping was best at the little mall next to Margaritaville in Cancun...prices were VERY reasonable here and beat many of the places we had previously shopped. Enjoy your stay at Casa Mariposas.

Relaxing, Amazing, Fabulous

Guest: Jen (Seattle)
Date of Stay: 05/03/11 Review Submitted: 05/17/11

We had a great time at the Casa; that's an understatement. I have already told many friends that they should consider Casa Mariposas for their next trip. We really preferred being on the south end of the island. Being near Indio's Beach was just perfect. The water was warm and calm and the staff there was great. We spent a little time in the Playa Norte area but the south side is more relaxing and enjoyable. The house was perfect. We grilled fresh fish most evenings and hung out by the pool every afternoon post-beach. The house was great for relaxing and reading on the many balconies or swinging in one of the hammocks. We got a golf cart for 2 days of our stay and explored the island but were always happy to come home to Casa Mariposas. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home with us. We hope to return next year!

Guest: Vacationers (Utah)

Casa de Mariposas is WONDERFUL. It is in a nice quiet location, away from downtown but close enough to zip over even a couple times a day(if needed) on your golf cart. The cleaning crew is exceptional. The house is cleaned thoroughly with care and courtesy. The west balcony is perfect for meals with a nice breeze. The east balcony was our favorite for sitting to enjoy the ocean views. The pool is just as gorgeous as it appears. With your very own pool and hammocks, it is hard to leave! We are already talking of our return trip. Actually, that talk started before we even left. ;) Casa de Mariposas is BEAUTIFUL. It could not have been more perfect. I can't say enough...it really was a dream. We highly recommend it.

Great Casa

Date of Stay: 02/18/11 Review Submitted: 05/17/11

Our stay at Casa Maripossa was excellent from start to finish. The casa is clean and well maintained, the photos on the website are accurate. We prepared several meals at the casa, all that is required to prepare meals is there. We were there for ten days and the cleaning staff, pool man and gardener performed there jobs without causing any interference to our vacation. We had the option of using air conditioning but it was not required, the house remained quite cool during our stay despite the hot weather we had while on Isla Mujeres. We used the dining terrace for all of the meals we prepared at the casa. Both of the bedrooms are large with private bathrooms. The guest bathroom on the main floor is identical the the ones in the bedrooms. Comfortable queen sized bed in each bedroom. The salt water pool is outstanding. I had never swam in one before but it beats regular chorinated pools hands down. The women loved it for the fact it did not dry out there skin after a swim. My wife would always look for a shower after a swim in regular pools, but not here she loved it.We rented a golf cart for the length of our stay so getting around was not a problem, but if needed taxis are close at hand on the main road one block over. Dan the owner was extrememly helpfull witth any questions we had. If I could give it six stars I would. I would recommend this casa to anybody looking for a comfortable private vacation on Isla Mujeres.

Honeymoon !!

Guest: Jim (Wilmington, NC)
Date of Stay: 02/01/11 Review Submitted: 02/22/11

We recently spent 11 glorious days in Casa Mariposa, a tranquil villa, that surpassed so many other places we've rented. The well-appointed home has everything we needed for comfort, safety and solitude. The relaxing pool just outside the bedrooms was especially nice. No need for air conditioning. We found grocery shopping in Colonias Gloria (at supermercado) and the outdoor market not only convenient, better supplied but a real slice of life. Loved swimming with the dolphins, a day at Zama's, eating at French Bistro and Cubano's plus excellent dinners at Mango Cafe and Olivia's. Location requires a golf cart or hailing a cab which is easy enough and $6.00 each way. Hired help efficient, prompt and pleasant. Highly recommend this home-away-from-home. When we asked taxi driver (Luichi) about fresh fish; he brought us about 4lbs of grouper, that he got diving the next day, for a very reasonable charge. Baken in the oven with veggies from the market, it was enought for 2 full meals for both of us with leftovers. We had coffee every AM on the eastern porch and watched the sun rise and day begin...not much better anywhere. Jim and Katie Freeman

This was our second stay at Casa Mariposas. My wife and I were there with our 2 kids 10 and 12 and we loved it as much this time as we had the first. The casa is located in a very peaceful and lush part of the island with stunning views of the Caribbean and beautiful ocean breezes - especially on the roof terrace. The kids love the salt water pool - they are in it almost the whole time we're at the house. It's really a beautifully designed and decorated place and they maintain it well. The ocean-side balcony on the second floor gets amazing breezes - my favorite place to read and write or stare out over the reef. We love the outdoor table on the other veranda - great place for meals or for hanging out. You can easily walk to the Caribbean side and to the stunning Punta Sur. Easy golf cart ride to town and the north-end beaches. Small grocery stores a few minutes ride away as well as the not-to-be missed "Ballpark Tacos" followed by a local soccer or baseball game in the colonia. Monica, the agent, was very helpful, too.

Casa Miraposa was everything we'd hoped for. Very tastefully done decor, beautiful view and great outdoor space. The two master bedrooms make it perfect for two couples, but you could certainly fit more upstairs, with the sleeper couch and third bathroom. We enjoyed being in the more quiet south end of the island, and the salt water pool was fantastic! We were two couples travelling on our anniversaries, and this was a vacation to remember. The weather was also surprisingly great for early September. I would defintely recommend this beautiful casa to anyone looking for a place with all the amenities and a little off the beaten path.

Date of Stay: 09/04/10 Review Submitted: 09/22/10

My husband and I, and another couple stayed at the Casa Miraposa the first week of September. Not only was the weather much better than expected, but the casa was everything we had hoped for and more. It is ideal for two couples, and plenty of space for everyone. The pool and the house were immaculate upon our arrival, and we really enjoyed not only having a pool, but espeically one that was salt water and large enough to actually swim. The cleaning folks were very nice, and very thourough as well. All in all it was a fabuloous place to stay, from the wonderful terrace views, to the exotic bird sounds and breezes all arund the casa. I would defintely recommend renting a golf cart for your stay from Pache at Indio. he is close by and will deliver. It was nice to be on the quiet, more local south side of the island, and renting the cart gave us freedom to come and go into town as we pleased. I would highly recommend it! Tanya, Seattle WA

This is a great choice!

What a wonderful vacation we had at Casa Mariposas! Everything about the "casa" and the island was fabulous. We ate at many of the local restaurants (see the guest book at the house). Cafe Mango was one of our favorites (we ate there 2x!) The house was very clean and comfortable. The maid service slipped in everyday and cleaned thoroughly without us hardly noticing. The private pool was great...we could make our own "pool hours". We rented a golf cart from Indios. We think that is a must so that you can explore the island from one end to the other. The town is very easy to get around in once you get acclaimated. Apache, the owner of the golf cart company, will deliver it to your door. Also, Apache allowed us to use his "private" beach which is not fancy at all but very secluded. He also arranged a private snorkeling trip for us early one morning before the crowd. One word of advice from the "been there, done that" department....take plenty of sunscreen. Not only will you need it for the sun but if you lose it or run out...it is VERY expensive on the island. Although our daughter is fluent in Spanish, that is not a necessity as most of the locals speak English. Our transfer from the airport to the ferry was great. We used Cancun Valet. We definitely needed air conditioning while we were there, especially for sleeping. The humidity was very high. We turned it off in the daytime though because we were either out by the pool or exploring the island. The mulit-levels in the house gave us all a place to "do our own thing" if we wanted to be alone. Just a great place to stay. We will definitely be back! Thanks Dan for your help and hospitality.

Owner response:Thanks for the wonderful feedback. Glad you had a nice trip and will be back. We have lots of repeat renters!

We felt so much at home, and it is in such a peaceful area, The view, the views were phenomenal, we enjoyed ourselves immensely. We even purchased a hammock, so my husband could rock himself to sleep. We have bragged about our stay so much that we will be referring people to you.

I think this is one of the nicest homes on the island. All the comforts of home and spotless. The place is very airy and very private as it has a wall around the property. The pool is unique and no chlorine smell on your skin. I have traveled all over the world using VRBO and this is one of the nicest properties for the money that I have ever stayed in. I highly recommend it and we plan on a return visit for sure. Angie and Pete, Florida

We really liked the Casa! We didn't get to enjoy getting in the pool- to cool, unfortunately! However, we did enjoy the home. Top honors- cleanliness, wi-fi, and the well stocked cook utensils in the kitchen. We did still have to keep in touch with clients. So, the wi-fi came in very handy. We enjoyed the free cleanings and tipped the cleaning lady every time for her efficient job. We did miss slightly not being right on the ocean. However, the mangroves made the backyard beautiful and we enjoyed still seeing the ocean every morning, from the balcony.

Casa M is beautiful and we enjoyed every minute of the stay! We especially appreciated the pool and swam every morning and in the evening. Tropical breezes were perfect and we definitely did not need AC. We also enjoyed the design and interior decoration of your vacation home and came to the conclusion we could continue living at Casa M for the rest of our lives! As you well know the island is very warm and friendly and a cab was always around when we wanted one. We tried most of your restaurants, Casa O's voted most romantic and Picus for the seafood. We also discovered a little local place with green and yellow awnings going towards town, right hand side of the road, no one spoke English. The sign says Mexican fast food but it was anything but! Great food, reasonable price. We also liked Elements of the Island for breakfast and purchased their organic coffee for use at the casa. We snorkeled several times at Garafon Castille and also did the trip to Isla Contoy with Captain Tony. We didn't expect the maid(Alaina?) every day. We each left 20 pesos or two dollars on the bed each day and then the last day, 100 pesos. She was wonderful! Although I made my bed every day, she redid it and put me to shame. Did we leave enough money for her? If you ever need a recommendation for Casa M, let Sue and I know. It was one of the most perfect places I have ever stayed at on any of my many vacations and I would love to come back. Mucho Gracias, Carol

I am speaking for 5 people when I say that our time spent at Casa Mariposa was complete bliss. The house has beautiful detail and so much to offer. It was clean, included everything you need in the kitchen, and plenty of entertainment. Between the private pool, dining deck, and rooftop, you do not really have to leave the house at all! After being at the beach all day, we looked forward to get back to our "villa", prepare an enjoyable meal, and eat outside with the breeze. We enjoyed mornings at the pool with our coffee and the sounds of tropical birds. Having never traveled to the island, Dan was integral in helping us with suggestions (which were ALWAYS on point) It made our whole travel experience that much better. We plan to go back as soon as we can! .....and don't forget to watch the sunrise from the rooftop!

Isla Mujeres is magical and Casa Mariposa is the perfect setting for a peaceful stay on this small island. The unique pool is a great feature, secluded and relaxing. Dan gave us great advice when he suggested renting a golf cart to get around the island. We stayed at Casa Mariposas for 10 days in August 2008. What a great find...it was perfect for the 4 of us who were looking for some R&R on the laid-back island of Isla Mujeres. Dan was great to work with for renting the house, and Ricardo (on-site property manager) was also excellent. He picked us up at the ferry dock and escorted us to the Casa. We loved renting a golf cart, spending our days at the beach, and coming back to the house for some time by the pool. The Casa has great island decor and is immaculately kept. Being on the south end of the island for the peace and quiet and lovely views was just what we were looking for, and we can't wait to go back some day!

Isla Mujeres is not a party place like Cancun. It is a quite beautiful island with wonderful people. It is easy and fun to get around the island by golf cart. I highly recommend Casa Maraposas!

We have vacationed at Casa Mariposas each January for several years. With its beautiful courtyard and swimming pool, this lovely, quiet home is a winter haven. Isla Mujeres is, for the most part, laid back as it is the residence for many folks who work off the Island. If you are looking to party, Isla is not your spot. If you are looking for quiet relaxation, Isla and in particular Casa Mariposas is wonderful.
