This cozy beach cottage is PERFECT FOR A FAMILY WITH CHILDREN! We are nestled among other cottages 5 lots from the beach, and on quiet nights you can hear the surf from the bedroom windows.
We are located off Saulsbury Street, mid-ocean block, south side. The exterior will be completely redone by April, including new deck and siding, making us the prettiest cottage in our homeowners' group of 9!
Two small bedrooms include one with a platform double bed (storage space underneath) and one with a bunk bed combination (double on the bottom and twin on the top - twin mattress on top is thin, fine for child but may be uncomfortable for adult.) Living room sofa is a queen-size sleeper.
Living room/dining room kitchen is a wonderful open space plan with partial cathedral ceiling and skylights. Master bedroom also has a skylight.
Dewey Beach occupancy laws allow 2 persons per bedroom plus 2 in a living area on a sleep sofa, for an occupancy of 6 for our house. However, we are a cottage/small house (approx 700 sq ft) so it is most comfortable for 2 - 4 adults or a family of 5 - 6 with children. Seating inside is limited to a 3 seat sofa and 6 dining table chairs.
It is about a mile to the town of Rehoboth, which has many attractions including the Boardwalk and Funland for kids. The Jolley Trolley runs every 10-15 minutes if the walk is too far. Fast food, casual and formal restaurants, as well as shops and activities, are available within steps in Dewey Beach.
Our 2 Russian adopted daughters have loved their vacations here since they were 4 and 6 months (now 21 and 17 - how time flies!) Our Mexican daughter(21) and grandchildren (5 and 2) have vacationed with us the past two summers, and we continue to enjoy our basic beach cottage where kids can be kids and adults don't have to always be watching out for sand and wet suits!

WEEKLY RENTALS: (Sat-Sat) At time of reservation, non-refundable 1/2 of total rent is due by personal check or Paypal. Non-refundable balance of 1/2 of total rent plus refundable security deposit ($400 for groups of adults, $200 for one couple or family with children) is due 30 days before check-in.
DISCOUNTS FOR WEEKLY RENTALS: can use more than one
10% for reservation and payment of deposit by 2/29/12
5% for reservation and payment of deposit by 3/31/12
$100 for renting two consecutive weeks
$50 for return tenant renting full week
TENANTS ARE REQUIRED TO LEAVE HOUSE TIDY AND BROOM CLEAN WHEN THEY LEAVE.

Year Purchased: 1995
We are an international and special needs adoptive family. Mom (Bonnie) is a psychologist; Dad (Keith) is now our "stay-home dad" after 8 years doing mercy ministry among the poor in Juarez, Mexico. Russian-born daughters, adopted and brought home in March 1995, are Amy Oksana (21) and Jennifer Marina (17) . Mexican-born daughter, brought home after 7 very long years of waiting, is Yajaira Margarita (21). Grandchildren Kimberly Diana (5)and Kevin Michael (2) also bless our home.
Why the Owner Chose Dewey Beach
Bonnie had vacationed at the MD/DE shore from the time she was 3 years old, and Keith from about age 10. We rented for many years but had kept our eye on these little cottages, some of the rare detached houses where the land is owned rather than leased. When it came on the market at the time we had a small inheritance from Keith's dad's estate, we were able to realize our lifetime dream of a little cottage at the ocean. Our Russian daughters came home that spring, and "making memories" at the beach in all seasons has been a wonderful part of our family life.
The Unique Benefits of this Cottage
It is SO close to the beach, so easy to go back if you forgot something, to go to the bathroom (or take a potty training child back quickly!) Our little homeowners group of 9 all get along well and those who rent have had nice tenants as long as we've owned. We love having our little cottage where we can kick back, be casual and relax.

Photos are not showing the actual size of the place. It was smaller then expected. Room with bunk beds has window AC. If you turn it on for night, whoever is sleeping on the bottom bed might get cold, and it's loud too. Otherwise, there is no air in the room, door has to be open. Bunk bed is loud, every time the person on the top bed turns, expect to wake up. There were no sharp knifes (we had to buy), no laundry, we also couldn't locate the iron. I wish there was a vacuum cleaner to clean the sand. In general, place was pretty clean, but sand was all over the couch and dust on every shelf (we cleaned it). Not sure who can sleep on the couch, it says in the description that you can. The good thing is that parking is available (you have to pay for 2nd car), and the house is minutes away from the ocean. Also, the outlets are minutes away, good place to go when it's very hot or raining. Bar across the street. We had to leave 1 day earlier because of the hurricane, and were not offered any kind of refund; also did not have full security deposit back because owner stated that bathroom was not clean. It got me somehow upset if to take into consideration that all the dust in the house was cleaned by us, and there were no mention of situations when one must evacuate in the contract. I would say this is a good place to stay if your kids are older then 7. Our is 2 and all these little things made us uncomfortable.
Owner response:This review is misleading, and in places does not make sense. This tenant was charged a very conservative $20 for leaving a dirty bathroom for the following tenant. Possibly that charge has affected this tenant’s opinion. My response to all of the main points of complaint, in order as presented in the review: 1)photos: These are un-doctored photos taken from all four corners of the main room. Our description says “the living area is small”. This is as honestly as I can present the room size. 2)“no air in the room”: This makes no sense. This room has one window with an AC in it and one window with no AC. The AC has (as all AC’s do) a switch to blow outside air into the room. You can cool with the window AC on and the other window closed, or ventilate with the AC blowing outside air and the other window open. The door has no effect either way. 3)Sharp knives are in a rack on the kitchen counter. 4)dusty shelves: The rental contract requires arriving tenants to report any problems with the house upon arrival. This tenant made no such report. If they had, they would have been compensated. 5)“not sure who can sleep on the couch”: This makes no sense. Our description says that the living room sofa is a “convertible bed” and is a “queen sleeper”. Can it be that this tenant does not understand that the sofa must be opened up to form a bed? 6)“bar across the street:” This is untrue. On the back side of our block and across a 6 lane highway, is a bar. You can not see or hear this bar from our property. 7) “no mention of…evacuation in the contract”: This is the one complaint of any valid substance in this review. In 15 years of renting, we simply never thought of the effect of a hurricane warning on a rental contract. We have corrected our contract. 8)“not for toddlers” and “ok if your kids are older than 7”: This tenant does not justify or explain these statements in any way. The house is a normal residence and is safe for young children. We have children of all ages very much in mind at this house, and provide books, games, videos, and beach toys for their enjoyment. (The VRBO review from Jim posted 7/5/11 confirms this.) If this tenant happens to have a 2 year old and did not like our house, that’s fine; but a statement in the headline of the review that our house is in some unspecified way unsuitable for toddlers and young children is unfair and unjustified.
Recommended for:Tourists without a car, families with teenagers, girls getaway.
Perfect beach cottage for a small family getaway.

Very pleased! We stayed here with our two daughters, ages 7 and 2. The girls loved the bunk beds. When the sun got too much, there were plenty of kids movies, games, and puzzles to keep them occupied. This rental is off the street, away from the noisy bars, and closer to the beach than we thought it would be. You could throw a ball to someone on the beach, that's how close it is. Everything was great.
