Arcata is located just 7 miles north of Eureka and less than an hour's drive to State and National Redwood Parks, home to the tallest trees in the world. Enjoy majestic redwood groves, miles of pristine coastline, Humboldt Bay, a famous wildlife refuge, and a lively town square in arty, progressive Arcata, which is also home to Humboldt State University.
Between scenic Humboldt Bay and forested hills, our town is a popular destination for visitors to the redwoods and is the ideal "home base" from which to take recreational day trips or attend events on the Arcata Plaza, including the Kinetic Sculpture Race, Oyster Festival, Pastels On The Plaza, North Country Fair, Arts Alive, and Saturday Farmers Market.
Within a 15-30 minute drive from Arcata, visit Old Town Eureka's Victorian Waterfront Heritage District, the Victorian Village of Ferndale, or the quaint fishing village of Trinidad, Trinidad Head and beaches, and Patrick's Point State Park. Comfort awaits you at ROSE COURT COTTAGE (a proud member of ARCATA STAY Lodging Network of Exceptional Accommodations, view our availability calendar at my website), a delightful retreat in the historic heart of town, four blocks from Arcata Plaza and Humboldt State University. Our ideal location allows guests to leave their vehicle and stroll to shops, restaurants, movies, the Marsh Wildlife Sanctuary, or Redwood Park trails.
ROSE COURT COTTAGE is a cozy haven, private, quiet, and romantic. Our guests may indulge in exquisite attention to detail: arts and crafts era design elements combined with sumptuous furnishings and linens, and a multitude of thoughtful amenities.
French doors open into a warm and welcoming suite with decor which blends craftsman ambiance with country French charm. The interior is appointed in a rich motif enhanced by wood trim, multi-light windows, masterful painting and stenciling, and California impressionist landscapes.
The smoke-free cottage has a dining/living area, sleeping area with antique queen bed, nightstands with reading lamps and mirrored entertainment armoire, a fully outfitted kitchenette, and a private bath with tiled shower and European 75 jet sunflower shower head.
Tucked away from the street, the brick courtyard cottage entrance is a lovely outdoor space with a patio seating area, koi pond, and fragrant wisteria and English roses blooming abundantly.
Hostess Christy Laird ensures that her guests enjoy a special breakfast experience. Start the day with a full gourmet meal, tailored to dietary preferences, delivered to the cottage on a tray with the newspaper, to be enjoyed amidst the chatter of hummingbirds, the tinkling of the fountain, and the resonance of wind chimes.
Adjacent to ROSE COURT COTTAGE, the owners' Tudor Revival residence is notable in Arcata for its charm and landscape design in English cottage garden style.
They were featured on Home and Garden Television's Old Homes Restored program in 2002, and have been a garden tour favorite of the Humboldt Botanical Garden Society on three occasions since 1997.
Whether you are here on vacation or business, are a visiting academic or parent of an HSU student, or are simply passing through, we are certain that our knowledge of the area, as well as our attention and service, will enhance your travel experience to Arcata.
