ROSE COURT COTTAGE Bed and Breakfast studio upscale vacation rental, which can accommodate 4 guests, is part of the ARCATA STAY LODGING NETWORK OF EXCEPTIONAL ACCOMMODATIONS. It is a retreat in the historic heart of town, 4 blocks from Arcata Plaza and Humboldt State University Gateway. Our ideal location allows guests to leave their vehicle and stroll to shops, restaurants, movies, the Marsh Wildlife Sanctuary, or Redwood Park trails.
ROSE COURT COTTAGE is a private, quiet, cozy haven. Our guests may indulge in attention to detail: Craftsman-era design elements combined with sumptuous furnishings and linens, and a multitude of thoughtful amenities.
The interior is appointed in a rich motif enhanced by wood trim, multi-light windows, masterful painting and stenciling, and California impressionist landscapes.
The cottage main room has a living/dining/sleeping area with a fireplace, antique queen bed, bistro table and chairs, and sofa which can convert into a double bed. Adjacent to the main room is a fully outfitted kitchenette, and there is a private bath with tiled shower and European 75 jet sunflower shower head.
Tucked away from the street, the brick cottage courtyard is a lovely outdoor space with a patio seating area, fountain, and a blooming abundance of fragrant English roses and jasmine.
Hostess Christy Laird ensures that her guests enjoy a special breakfast experience. Start the day with a full gourmet meal, tailored to dietary preferences, delivered to the cottage to be enjoyed amidst the chatter of hummingbirds, the tinkling of the fountain, and the resonance of wind chimes. Or guests who choose to do so may opt out of breakfast and the nightly rate will be discounted $10.00 per person per night.

Arcata is located just 7 miles north of Eureka and less than 40 minutes drive to both southern and northern State and National Redwood Parks, home to the tallest trees in the world. Enjoy majestic redwood groves, miles of pristine coastline, Humboldt Bay, a famous wildlife refuge, and a lively town square in arty, progressive Arcata, which is also home to Humboldt State University.
Between scenic Humboldt Bay and forested hills, our town is a popular destination for visitors to the redwoods and is the ideal 'home base' from which to take recreational day trips or attend events on the Arcata Plaza, including the Kinetic Sculpture Race, Oyster Festival, Pastels On The Plaza, North Country Fair, Arts Alive, and Saturday Farmers Market.
Within a 15-30 minute drive from Arcata, visit Old Town Eureka's Victorian Heritage District, the Victorian Village of Ferndale, or the quaint fishing village of Trinidad, Trinidad Head, beaches, and Patrick's Point State Park.
Year Purchased: 2003
About the owner: I have had a love affair with Arcata since I moved here nearly 40 years ago to attend Humboldt State University. I graduated and could not leave this special place; our progressive kinda quirky little university town is like none other. Rose Court Cottage is adjacent to my downtown Tudor Revival residence, just 4 short blocks to Arcata Plaza.
Why the Owner Chose Arcata: The abundance of natural beauty just minutes away in any direction is phenomenal: the tallest most majestic redwood trees in the world, miles of unspoiled rugged coastline, sand dunes, lagoons, six beautiful rivers, ever changing Humboldt Bay, and Wildlife Refuges, to name a few. The redwood coast offers diverse recreational opportunities which attract visitors from around the world. Since opening in 2004, I have hosted a good number of those visitors here at Rose Court Cottage and guided them to the unique features of our area. I have developed friendships with guests who return again and again to visit their HSU students or family living in the area, attend our many festivals and events, conduct business, or come back to a getaway that they love. It is the perfect base from which to make day trips to the natural wonders of our region, and return at the end of the day to a cozy cottage with all the comforts of home.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage: Arts, culture, music, theater, shopping, food and drink, being 'green' before it was groovy, a lively downtown Plaza, architecture, history, and a friendly embracing community make Arcata a destination not to be missed.
