“The Land of 13 Moons” was named after the Native American understanding of a 13 moon calendar, and represented to us a sensibility in sync with natural rhythms.
La Casa del Corazon means “The House of the Heart.” This 2-bedroom house has one queen size bed, two twin beds, and one day bed. This home has been meticulously created and designed by its artist residents both inside and out.
Inside the house you will find every amenity for comfort with sweeping vistas of the surrounding land and gardens. The master bedroom inhabits the entire second story and has a large two-person bath with windows that open to a vista of the property.
The living room, dining room, and kitchen all comprise an open first floor layout, with French doors in the living room which open to a stone pathway leading you to a private vine covered patio with outdoor grill.
The house is equipped with every modern appliance including a dishwasher, W/D, wifi, large screen TV, Ipod dock, woodstove, antique pine floors, A/C, and a fully equipped kitchen with everything a cook could ask for.
The second bedroom, located on the first floor, is surrounded by green foliage from every window. This serene room will inspire all who sleep here to surrender and dream.
There is both a front and back porch furnished with comfortable patio chairs and tables to enjoy your morning coffee as the sun tops the forest trees around 9:30; or if you are an early riser you can walk down to the sprawling fields of wild flowers and tall meadow grasses one block from the driveway and watch the sun come up a few hours earlier.
We have lovingly focused for the last decade on creating a physical and visual paradise on this 17-acre estate, using only permaculture and organic gardening methods. Our property is abundant with ornamental and edible gardens everywhere you stroll over the two cultivated acres. The gate is always open to our a 90 X 90 foot vegetable garden filled with fruit trees and berry bushes, kitchen herbs, medicinals, and more. This garden is designed to walk on a spiral path, which leads you to a circular bench under a young cherry tree. On the patio floor in the center are red, black, yellow and white lines of mosaic tile to represent the four cardinal directions used for prayer and meditation in the Native American tradition.
Throughout all of the gardens are nooks and crannies designed for you to sit and rest for tranquility and reflection, inviting all who come, to experience the rejuvenating power of Nature.
100 yards from the house is a spring fed pond built for swimming. The water is clean and refreshing and we recommend many dips a day. By the ponds edge is a stone patio perfect for enjoying the sun or reading in the late afternoon after the sun has dipped behind the trees.
Our land is surrounded by public land and you can venture off the property and walk for several miles in the woods before encountering any signs of civilization.
There are three buildings on the property. The primary house is our vacation rental, “La Casa del Corazon.” In the large studio barn we call “La Casa de Los Pajaros” (The House of the Birds) are living spaces and working artist studios. Much further from the house you will see a round building near the pond we call “La Casa de La Miel” (The House of Honey) which is a personal retreat space. The land here is spacious and varied with gardens, meadows, and forest. The layout of the property has been carefully and attentively designed to provide an abundance of private space to be explored and enjoyed on your own.
At night you will be lulled to sleep by the songs of the pond frogs or the melodic calling back and forth of our various Owl residents; or possibly the gentle rustle of trees rolling with the breeze coming down from High Point Mountain, caressing all who come to bathe in the magical gifts of “ 13 Moons.”
