Marathon condo description
'HAPPINESS IS!' at GULFPOINTE II --an upscale condo complex, only 20 units in five buildings situated on a peninsula just off of the Overseas Highway and surrounded by the beautiful Gulf of Mexico. Marathon is referred to as the 'Heart of the Keys.' Its mid-keys location, near the northern end of the famous seven mile bridge, puts vacationers in easy reach of all Keys attractions. Distance from Miami is about 100 miles, and to Key West, about 50 miles.
You can swim from the dock, lounge by the heated pool, and enjoy Gulf and pool views from every room in the condo and from the wrap around decks on both the main and the upper levels. You can even see what's happening at the dock from the master bath shower!! The dock, new in 2006, is a great spot for fishing, day or night. It has a new fish cleaning station with water for your clean-up.
If you prefer a more active vacation, you can do it all: boat in the gulf or the ocean, fish, snorkel or scuba dive, sightsee, tour historic and nature sights, bird watch, play golf and “eat” at a variety of restaurants from casual to gourmet. For boaters, our location near Vaca Cut gives you quick access to both the Gulf and the Atlantic Ocean. There are too many things to do to try to list here. The Marathon Chamber of Commerce is a short walk west from the condo. Be sure to stop here for information, travel brochures, and lots of discount coupons including tickets for free beverages with your meal at the Keys Fisheries. There are just SOO many things to do in the area, you’ll find that a week is not enough. That’s why we and so many others just keep coming back—again and again. Plan now for next year to get the dates you want!
If you like the feel of sand between your toes, Sombrero Beach is only about 10 minutes away, ocean side at MM 50. In 5 minutes you can be at Cocoplum Beach. If you just want to sit by by the water, take our beach chairs downstairs and enjoy the views on site. There are 4 folding chairs. You can swim and snorkel right in front of our unit, no need to start up the car! You can walk to the local seafood market and enjoy fresh caught dolphin and shrimp to cook at the condo or walk or drive to a myriad of nearby restaurants. The Island Tiki Bar and Restaurant is just a short stroll to the east. Details on and directions to many of our local favorites are contained in the WELCOME BOOK at the condo. Gulfpointe is directly off US Rt. 1, so there's convenient access to everything--yet the peninsula surrounds you with beautiful water views and makes you feel you are on your own private island!
If you want to get away, the Keys still have the charm--and you don't even need a passport! (except for our visitors from across the pond.) You are away from super highways, tall buildings and everything that goes with the work-a-day world. If you are looking for KOKOMO, this is as close as you'll get stateside! Yet you still have nearby restaurants and shopping and the reassurance of a large local hospital nearby. Gulfpointe is a great place for families or couples of any age. The condo has room enough for 2 couples to comfortably share it for the entire winter season or for one couple to invite occasional guests or grandkids to visit. Maximum occupancy is 6. CALL US!
The unit is NOT wheelchair accessible. Pets are NOT permitted. Smoking permitted ONLY on the balconies.

Our stay at Janet and Bob’s condo was wonderful. It was our first time of renting a condo in the Florida Keys and we were most certainly not disappointed. The condo is just lovely, beautifully kept with good decor and furnishings, it is light and airy and when we walked in the door felt so pleased we had found such a perfect place. The condo sits back from Hwy 1 and so you don’t have the sound of the traffic constantly streaming past. The grounds are immaculate and the pool is clean and can be reached a few yards from the condo, it is very quiet and during our particular stay we seemed to be the only people enjoying it, it was great. The condo has a balcony around it and my husband and I enjoyed some lovely warm, balmy evenings with a bottle of merlot watching the pelicans fly home and later the moon rising over the water of the Gulf, it was just so peaceful and a perfect place to unwind on our holiday. There are nearby shops for your grocery needs and a lovely tiki bar and restaurant overlooking the water, walking distance away, which was great as it meant we could just unwind without having to always be getting in the car. There are lovely beaches nearby and at Bahia Honda State park we enjoyed a snorkel trip out to the reef. The price is very reasonable and I would say to anyone who has never experienced this before to try it, it is amazing. It was a fantastic experience and we saw hundreds of small fish, the colours were just jaw dropping, we also saw barracuda, reef shark, turtles and lobster. We enjoyed a day at Key West which was just over an hours drive away, we soaked up some of the colourful evening entertainment and perused the unique individual shops. We are so pleased we rented this condo, it has everything you could wish for, we can’t wait to go back again next year. It would be perfect for anyone from the UK who has not experienced the beauty of the Florida Keys, you will love it.

Best VRBO Rental Ever!
Best VRBO Rental Ever!
We use VRBO rentals for most of our vacation rentals and I have to say that "Happiness Is" was by far the best. The condo is extremely comfortable (we were a family of 4, two adults and two kids age 7 and 9) and Janet and Bob were the most accomodating owners we've ever rented from. The development is on the Gulf of Mexico which provided for amazing sunsets, and my kids enjoyed morning and evening fishing every night right off the dock where we housed our boat. Community pool was nice alternative when we wanted to stay local and other days we took boat down to Bahia Honda and other great locations to visit. Middle Keys Location was perfect location for our family .... near beautiful reefs for snorkeling and beaches for lounging...hour away from Key West for a nice long day trip. Best part of the Keys in my opinion and best place to stay. Thanks Janet and Bob!

Great Anniversary Get-Away
Great Anniversary Get-Away
This was our first visit to the Florida Keys, and we had a wonderful time! The condo description and photos were accurate. The condo was clean and very quiet during our stay. The pool, though shared among the other residents and renters, was quiet and quite private. The sunsets were amazing from the dock. We enjoyed watching the wildlife, which included sharks feeding by the dock at night, a large stingray, and tarpon. We were surprised to see the large iguanas wandering by and took numerous photos to show family back home. We enjoyed visiting the Dolphin Research Center nearby, where we were able to interact with and swim with dolphins. The 7-Mile Bridge is a must for sunset viewing. Key West was a short 45-minute drive as well. Working with Bob and Janet was great. They were very prompt to respond to questions via email and phone before our stay. They made sure that our stay was exceptional. Thank you, Bob and Janet, for sharing your condo with us!

We absolutely loved our stay at this condo! It was super clean, very comfortable, roomy, and the location was perfect! We spent a few days in Key West, some time in Islamorada, we went to Pigeon Key and watched the sunset at the 7 mile bridge. We ate at the Island Grill which was great and right next door. We discovered the Keys Fishery and tried the Lobster Reuben which was surprisingly delicious. We also got our fresh fish there and grilled it at the condo. I read one of the other reviews about nasty neighbors and I have to say I have no idea what they were talking about. The neighbors were very friendly and we got to meet a lot of their dogs! Most of the time I was the only one at the pool, which was great, by the way. I know we've rented other condos where the bed and bedding is not the greatest, but this one had very comfortable beds, pillows and the towels were quite plush! And the owners were very helpful and friendly and very easy to deal with. I also received my deposit back when they said I would! So, we would highly recommend this place! We will absolutely be back!!

My wife an i stayed here the first week of Nov. We were very happy with the house and furnishings. Clean, bright, roomy, and a great view.Nice pool with your own parking. The neighbors in the front were very snobby an unfriendly, but thats ok we were not looking to make new friends anyway. Other residents we met were nice and pleasent. The owners were very helpful in every way possible to make our stay a memorable one. Great location for everything in Marathon. We will be staying here again and i would recommend this place to everyone. The worst thing about "Happiness Is", was leaving. Rocky & Terri.

Owner response: We always enjoy hearing that our guests enjoyed their stay at "Happiness Is!". With regard to the "unfriendly neighbors" in the adjacent unit, that unit also rents so there is no knowing if it was the owners or tenants. Thankfully it did not spoil your vacation and we were glad to hear that all the others were friendly, as we would expect.

We stayed at Happiness for 4 weeks (2 adult and 4 children) and we loved it! We enjoyed everything about Happiness and it was absolutely immaculate! The condo is roomy for 6 people with very comfortable furniture and beds. We loved the Gulf views, spotting sea life, fishing off the dock and the resident iguana(s).We catched many fish from the dock from snapper to nurse sharks. The location is perfect for boaters and only minutes to Vaca Cut. The shared pool is beautiful, clean and great size and was never crowded we loved it. The neighbors were all friendly and helpful especially neighbour PHILL we followed him to the Marathon Hump for Dolphin fishing (we catched Dolphin and Wahoo) and we have had a great time with him his friend and daughters, thank you Phill,.. Last but not least it was a pleasure dealing with the owners thank you Janet and Bob! We hope to visit Happiness again in the future and will readily recommend your property to friends and family.

Wonderful stay, great value
Wonderful stay, great value
We had a great week at "Happiness Is" and found it is aptly named. The pictures and descriptions on their VRBO site are accurate. The owners were prompt, clear and very gracious. The condo is spacious, all appliances worked well, the bedrooms and bathrooms are nice and the views are exacly as described. The beds were all comfortable. We enjoyed morning coffee on the porch overlooking the dock and Vaca Cut, and there is also a nice view of the pool and back over the bay toward Island Fish Co. We loved it and this will be our first choice for our next visit to the keys. We did not make full use of the amenities offered. We didn't use the grill and did not have a boat, so we only used the dock to fish. (Florida residents can get a free shore saltwater fishing license at K-Mart in Marathon. The pool is clean and roomy - just one other guest used it during our stay. We choose Marathon when we visit the Keys because it is slower paced than Key West yet plenty of shopping is close by (Publix in particular). We have tried a variety of the local motels and resorts - and found "Happiness Is" to be a far better value. The condo and its amenities were exactly as advertised. Added value came in that the owners took extra time and effort to help us have the best time possible. They made great recommendations on sites to see and restaurants, and they keep a notebook in the condo with further information, coupons, etc. We had a wonderful week. We didn't have any significant problems but it was clear to us that the owners would be very responsive had any arisen. Also, the condo is in a very secure, secluded location. We felt very safe day and night. Sitting under a full moon on that dock, watching the current and occasional sea turtle or dolphin was exquisite. It all added up to a wondereful vacation and we feel very blessed to have found "Happiness Is." My only cautions are that the condo is a flight of stairs up to the first floor and there are 2 stories in the condo. It would not be advisable for someone who has trouble with stairs.

Family from Chicago
Family from Chicago
This was our first visit to the keys, and the condo was exactly what our family of four (two kids 3 and 5) needed. The location was perfect; great access to all of Marathon, and proximate to the rest of the keys. Our kids loved the swimming pool and the views of the water were quite nice. The owners have a lot of material describing all the things to do, with recommendations for dining, shopping, etc. which were all very helpful. There was more than enough space in the condo, and everything worked to our satisfaction. It was clean, well maintained, and very comfortable. Nice to have a full kitchen with plenty of utensils, place settings, and cooking tools. We noticed that Bob and Janet have been making upgrades, and imagine they will continue to do so. In our opinion, the upstairs carpet is probably due for a change, and the sliding doors are a little stiff. But these are very minor points, and we believe the price was a good value for a spring week in Florida. We really enjoyed the Sunset Beach grill (at the foot of 7-mile bridge), and of course Island Fish right down the block. The island had everything you could need, and if we get back to the keys next year, we would most certainly return to Gulfpointe.

This was our first trip to Marathon and it was a great experience. The location of this condo is awesome! The Sunsets are the best and having your boat right there made it so easy. Everything was clean and comfortable. We will definitely be back again. It was a nice quiet complex and all the neighbors were very friendly. Thank you to Janet and Bob for all your hospitality.

About the owner: Raising a family in CT, we spent many spring vacations checking out Florida. We did the east coast and the west and even the Panhandle, but once we discovered the Keys, we knew this was where we wanted to be. As retirement approached, we knew it was time to have our own place in the sun in the Keys. We and our family enjoy visiting at the condo and are happy to be able to share it with others. We're sure you and your family will enjoy it too!
Why the Owner Chose Marathon:
We are 'water people.' Swimming, boating, fishing, water skiing, wake boarding, jet skiing, snorkeling and scuba diving--our family loves it all. Windy on the ocean, go to the Gulf. Windy on the Gulf, go to the Ocean. We had 3 weeks of time share in Marathon for many years, but when the place was sold to build million dollar condos, we knew it was time for us to buy our own place. We found the perfect small condo complex within 1/2 a mile of our old place. It had a dock for Dad and a pool for Mom and room enough for us to invite the kids and grandkids. We picked one of not too many that allow weekly rentals, which lets us share it with you. Marathon is close to everything in the Keys. It's just minutes to sandy beaches, shopping, restaurants and all kinds of entertainment. Having a large hospital in town also gives a comfort level when you are away from home. We love it here and think you will too!
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
Comfort and convenience! It's close to everything. We have the Gulf and the pool right here. The condo has all the comforts we are accustomed to at home. Having your own dock is tremendous plus--no need to get in the car and haul 'stuff.' Any boater knows how much 'stuff' you need as you head out for a day on the water. At the condo we have a lobster cooking pot, cake pans, a cookie sheet and 2 griddles for making pancakes and bacon and much more. We have been to places in the past where you are lucky to have 4 forks for 4 people and 2 pots to cook with--not comfortable for us, nor for you. So come, enjoy and be comfortable!
